    Acknowledging that the protection and receiving talent is crappy and saying Cutler needs to improve on facets of his game aren't mutually exclusive concepts. You can bet any offense/QB inclined coach we bring in is gonna work on Cutler's fundamentals and footwork. He has a lot of the signs of a guy who has played with crappy players around him dating back to Vandy. Kinda like a running back who never has anyone to block for him and doesn't know how to set up his blockers once he finally does.

    I disagree. I think Cutler has pretty good footwork. He vastly improved his footwork coming into the 2011 season. Hell, Moose Johnston was commenting on how well Cutler was moving in the pocket against the Lions. Just because he will throw off his back foot doesn't mean he doesn't have good footwork. It just means he throws off his back foot... and he's pretty damn good at it. I think the only reason Esiason mentions Cutler's footwork is because prior to 2011, it was the go to criticism on Cutler. That and his "bad attitude". Boomer is just regurgitating what he's heard before because he's not good at his job. He hamstrings his own ability to move around in the pocket and make/extend plays by sitting on his heels. It's a problem that I hope any coach that comes in can help clean up. i don't think that's accurate at all. he extends plays as well as any QB in the league and he throws from his heels so often because if he didn't he'd have a smashed-in face. When he gets on the perimeter he's good. His movement within the pocket to get himself good throwing lanes is below average, IMO. Rodgers, Brady, Manning, Brees, Big Ben are very good at it.

    My beef is the implicit assumption that if you play in the SEC you're automatically playing tougher schedules than everyone else. Between unbalanced conference schedules and dreck OOC opponents, it doesn't hold much water.

    Possible but my thinking is that it would just increase the pressure on them while giving a bullseye for their opponents. I think it'd be a net loss purely from a win/loss perspective. I'm also speaking from the perspective of a USC fan who watched them be one of the better teams in the country by the end of the year last season turn into a complete dumpster fire when there was stuff to actually play for. Not comparing Urban to Lane of course.

    Specifically, no SEC team has given up fewer than 24 points yet in a bowl. And as I'm sure the B1G fans on this board will also note, two of the league's best teams aren't playing in bowls, which created some mismatches with SEC foes. The mismatches were offset by Wisconsin getting the Rose Bowl bid. If OSU were eligible it would have been in the Rose and UW would have been further down (NW's spot?). UM against SC wasn't a mismatch. PSU is, at best, the 3rd or 4th best team and I don't know that they would have a better chance against SC. Nebraska would have gotten UGA even if all big ten teams were eligible. So there were no mismatches with SEC teams. If they were eligible, there's a great chance an undefeated OSU team is playing ND for the title. If they were eligible, there's a great chance teams would've performed better against an opponent that actually had something to lose.

    When a rookie quarterback is given the entire offense to run on day 1 and told to throw a lot with a lot of below average talent around him and is productive that's pretty impressive. Wilson and Griffin are great too, of course. But they have a lot of simple reads and a good ground attack to lean on.

    The problem with Chip Kelly is that your defense becomes a glorified scout team for your offense instead of prepping for its next opponent.

    Saban is going to want to be the GM as well. I think the Browns are the only fit, if he decides to go back to the NFL.

    Hiring Gruden and leaving Marinelli to run the defense would be pretty seamless. They've already worked together and been successful.

    And as long as people are groundlessly speculating about Brian Kelly I don't know why Saban's name wouldn't come up.
