  1. My prediction of the day: Gerrit Cole lasts to our supplemental pick.
  2. Really? I heard he had a real good curve, but that he was 3 starter at best. I'd hope for more upside than that out of #19. Nah, he's got way more potential than that. Lefties with a consistent 92 mph heater (good point Ping--Hill usually sits at around 89 and kicks it up to 92 if he has to) and a plus plus curve are hard to come by. As Ping also stated, he should develop an average change as well. Doesn't hurt that he's dominated college so far.
  3. 19. 41 (thanks to Jason Kendall signing with Milwaukee) 65 97 131 ...
  4. Friedrich would be another nice pick if he lasts til 19. Rich Hill clone..as has been mentioned already i'm sure.
  5. We've worked out SS Niko Vasquez (HS), so don't be surprised on him in the 3rd or 4th. He seems like he should be a good hitter and has the potential to stay at short. PriorPower- There's so many options it' not even worth it. I'd just wait until we pick and then come here where we'll be talking about him. mlb-draft.com is a good place for a quick report on everyone though.
  6. How many rounds are today? How many are televised?
  7. Nah, both Beckhams will be gone. Casey Kelly (HS) should be there when we pick, but he's going to take a little time with the bat. Nice package of raw power for a SS though. Might be the best overall defender in the entire draft. Should be a Khalil Greene type (when he's actually playing good).
  8. I think there's a fairly good chance Melville will be around at 19, and i'd probab;y strongly consider taking the gamble. He had a rough start to the high school season, but came back strong down the stretch run. BA also says Odorizzi might just be a smokescreen and that Kelly and Davis (Ike i'm assuming) are two names that are more on the backburner than really at the top, so he thinks we might take someone who falls.
  9. Crow is demanding 10 mill according to BA, any chance he'd fall? I'd already heard he might slip into the teens before this...
  10. Wow, scout.com's top 100 said there have been some Jay Bruce comp's for Collier
  11. Would rather have Geo in front of Edmonds, but I think Lou is just trying to give him that confidence. Either way, let's make it 10!
  12. So much for the Hosmer hope, BA says that KC has him on the top of their board and that if he slips by them, SF also has him on the top of their board at 5.
  13. Isn't Collier considered the typical toolsy high risk guy or am I confusing him with another one of the prep OF'ers? Not to say you don't take him, but I was under the impression that it wouldn't be a shock to see him in the backend of the 1st, JeffH.
  14. Tools out from BA: http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/draft/draft-preview/2008/266266.html Lawrie comes in at #2 on strike zone judgement for HS. Casey Kelly-best HS defender in the draft, in front of Tim Beckham. Sonny Gray (I love him but hear he's a tough sign)- best secondary pitch for HS'ers. Closest to majors from HS: Hosmer Beckham Melville
  15. How much did Hernandez sign for again?
  16. Hernandez through 3 with 1 unearned run. 3.0 IP/3 K/1BB/0 ER
  17. Kelly's only signing as a SS. I've heard Cinci like him at their pick...
  18. Nice game by Vitters at Fitch.
  19. Kelly wil only sign as a SS according to mlb-draft.com:
  20. Saber Scouting says we like him. http://www.saberscouting.com/drafttop100/ Kelly video here: http://www.saberscouting.com/2008/05/08/news-notes-last-week-part3/
  21. I'd love Greinke, but only if we know for sure he's over whatever psychological things that plagued him. I remember hearing that going to a big market might not be the best thing for his self esteem (if he were to get booed). But of course, maybe I was blowing up that incident and he's fully over it.
