  1. Does SD have anyone up in the pen?
  2. Wow, somebody close this thread before Jim finds it. There is no way Demp could even approach Marshall's results these past few weeks. Regardless, Im not sold that the rest of the bullpen could handle the loss of Dempster over the long haul either so I think this would hurt both the starting rotation and the bullpen.
  3. I'll be there. Me too. And forget about the $60 parking, just take the light rail to Union Station and you are right there. This will be my fist time seeing the Cubs since I moved out here, so I am really excited.
  4. Man, just reading that thred on the site which shall remain nameless gave me a cold chill. Thanks to NSBB! Here's to The Shooter, RIP.
  5. So, what happens if they go through with this and then Guzman gets hurt? He does not exactly have a history of health the past few seasons...who gets to close then, and what happens when we have to reshuffle the entire make-up of the bullpen again? Do we then ask Dempster to go back to the pen (either as a set-up guy or the closer) and make him get used to that role all over again? It drives me nuts that this team has no advanced planning/organization. If they are talking about all of this now, after basically one bad outing, then it was obviously a viable possibility when the season started. So why not make these decisions then when you can take the time to get these guys used to their new roles? Why wait until the heart of the season and just throw everything up in the air (seemingly) just to say we are making changes?????
  6. I wonder if they are basing any of these decisions on the belief that Wood will be back at some point later in the season to help stabilize the bullpen (I really hope not, but who knows...) Also, if you are going to do this to your closer after one blown save, why the heck not just do it in Spring Training before the season started?
  7. Wow, I like that alot...and I will be using it in the future!
  8. I was at that game too. I remember getting into some good-natured ribbing with one of the park attendents that night as he was saying the Cubs would find a way to blow it and of course I couldn't believe it at the time and gave it right back to him. I believe we went to Pittsburgh right after that and saw 2 games of that series too. After that Estes game I though it was really meant to be. Wow, that seems like 10 years ago.
  9. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=chc Cubs.com quoting other sources and saying 8 year, $135 million.
  10. Would NY agree to any trade that doesn't involve Aramis? Any other decent FA 3rd baseman they could go for this year?
  11. Any concerns about his range/quickness at short?
  12. Ahhh....it was fun while it lasted. Of course it probably was never going to happen, and one news report out of NY certainly doesn't constitute the final word, but to think that the only way the Cubs don't hire a guy like Lou is to fall bass ackwards into a legitimate candidate out the stupidity of another team is pretty darn depressing. Of course, once the other team(s) wake up out of the fog the Cubs are left standing there by themselves trying to figure out what the heck just happened and why everyone has left but them. Is it too much to ask for an organization with just a little bit of foresight? It makes me mad b/c now it seems like Hendry is sick with the idea of a veteran "tough guy" presence in the club house since his own job is now on the line and he has to make up for all the childishness/lack of professionalism and utter disregard of baseball fundamentals the Cubs have displayed the past few years. He has backed himself into a corner after sticking with Dusty WAY too long, and now we all get to feel the brunt of that stupidity.
  13. Would Torre want some time off before going to another team????
  14. Did anyone catch his IV with Ronny before the game last night? Ronny was asking him about Marmol and the rest of the kids and their walk rates. The first thing out of Dusty's mouth was blah, blah, blah...Well, they were walking guys down in the minors well before they got here blah, blah, blah. It was such an obvious attempt to deflect any criticism that could possibly be leveled at him and just move the conversation along. Not well, this is what we are working on, this is the philosophy we are talking to the young guys about, this is what Larry is talking to them about, etc. but hey, man, not my fault dude. The fun just keeps coming.
  15. He looked really good tonight. I haven't seen him pitch much at all, but was at Wrigley tonight and he was in control the vast majority of the time. He gave up a walk and a two out base hit for the 2 runs, but for the most part was right on. He really had guys off balance, had a bunch of guys seemingly guessing at the plate, and seemed like he got as many outs and strikeouts on his fastball as he did on the curve. Like I said, I havent seen him pitch much, but the impression I always got was that he threw and relied on the curve too much. From my perspective he was mixing his pitches very well tonight, and really looked composed out there too. It was fun to watch him work and I hope Hendry makes it very clear that even if he gets pounded (which as a rookie Im sure he will a couple times this year) Dusty is going to run him out there every fifth day no matter what. The kid needs the work at the major league level, and if he can continue from what he was doing tonight he has a bright future ahead of him.
  16. What are you talking about? Dusty holds his boys accountable: http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-cubnt08.html That what you call tough love right there, man. Dusty can be pretty harsh when he need to be...
  17. Let me start off by saying I do not want to "run Aramis out of town." But... Im really surprised there is so much defending Aramis on this issue. If we were fighting for a playoff spot then everybody (I guess) cares, but since the season is lost then its no big deal? How many times has he gotten thrown out at second and third (or been held to a single) because he'd rather stand at homeplate and admire his blast to the wall instead of actually running hard out of the box? And now, after completely dissapearing when the Cubs needed him after DLee goes down, he is FINALLY hitting after the season is essentially done and he gets a free pass on this stuff? Yes, he is tearing the cover off the ball and it is fun to watch, but I think some of the things he's pulled this season is just ridiculous for a veteran player of his talent and importance to our team. But, of course, players would only do this for a team, a manager, and a franchise that allows them to do this. If I made 11 million and could get away with that crap, who's to say I wouldn't eithjer...especially when my manager comes up with these statements to the press explaining my actions: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060706cubsgamer,1,4209477.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines Wow, accountability in action. I'm sure Dusty will sit down and talk with him AGAIN after the game and will proclaim that everything is cool. What do you have to do in order to get called out on this club anyway? The thing that scares me is that this will probably be mishandled by all parties involved and it will digress into another players vs broadcasters story...
  18. Thanks Fred. I'd much rather have you doing the play by play than those terrible fox announders...
