You ever notice how everytime the catcher or the manager goes to the mound to visit with a pitcher, Neifi pops in on the conversation? I think he figures that as his average continues to drop (hitting .250 since April) that he will jump on this "team leader" thing so when someone asks Dusty why Neifi is still in the lineup (after Baker has used the made up on the spot, baserunning, fielding, and hitting the ball harder than anyone excuses) he can say, "Well man, Neifi is a real asset on the field, he is always talking to our pitchers, man." On a side note: I truly believe Neifi is still riding on that time he told Dempster to hit the ball to him earlier in the season, and then it was hit to him and the Cubs turned a double play to end a game. Everyone else that matters has forgotten that play, but I have a feeling Dusty still thinks about it everytime he writes out a lineup card with Neifi's name on it. (Note: He thinks about it twice, when he when he bats Neifi anywhere but 8th).
