Doesn't Griffey have a no trade clause? He was also quoted recently as saying that he wants to finish his career in Cincinnati. But, for arguments' sake, I wouldn't take Griffey b/c it would take way too much money to have both he and Dunn next year.
The 15 day DL is the place to put him. Head injuries are scary things. I've had 4 concussions...stupid kid stuff. Anyway, you can be fine one day and heave your guts up the next with blurry vision and balance problems. I hope he's ok. :(
wow, i found this little blurb on Ben Maller: "Jay Payton admitted last night that he intentionally confronted Terry Francona in the visitors dugout at Ameriquest Field on July 6 in hope that it would free him from his undesired role as the Red Sox' fourth outfielder and hasten his departure. Payton got in a shouting match with the Sox manager during the late innings of a game vs. Texas after fearing that he would miss getting an at-bat due to a double-switch with John Olerud, who was also inserted into the game at the same time. In full view of the bench, he got in an exchange with Francona that was so heated the team immediately designated Payton for assignment and refused to allow him to accompany the team to Baltimore. General manager Theo Epstein immediately traded him to Oakland for relief pitcher Chad Bradford" guys like Payton must be a real pleasure to have on a team.
next season is looking good, money wise. i'm hoping for this year though. call me stupid, but this team will succeed despite dusty's best efforts to sabotage our lineups.
wow, schilling is getting rocked. 0.0+ IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 HR so far. sheff doubles and ARod homers to dead center. yeah, schilling is closer material. lol oh, but he did K Matsui with a gift call from the ump for the 1st out of the inning.
Ongoing joke. Once Roast started the Game Threads saying that the team is awful, they started winning. Not wanting to mess with a good thing, he continued to do so, and others joined in. ah, thanks. :D try making it above .500 to stay, idiots.
Nixon looked like he was going to pull a Sheffield there for a moment. btw, i love that hard nosed approach guys like Nixon have. oh, and that guy was wearing a pink shirt.
baseball mitts are a matter of personal preference, but the hole near the pointer finger is to protect the pointer finger from hard throws to the pocket of the glove (like a previous poster said). almost all quality first basemen's gloves have them and catcher's gloves usually have a wider opening that allow the catcher to move his pointer finger outside of the glove.
i'd move dope to LF before our gold glover. seriously though, Dunn is average against good pitching, but he crushes the ball against mediocre pitchers. Dunn's OPS is among the elite players in baseball. If you have a chance at one of those guys, you get him...i think Vance said that earlier. I agree. :)
Would you really want Sheff playing in Chicago? He went on a tirade about how if he was traded he wouldn't put forth maximum effort and any team he was traded to wouldn't be happy b/c he (sheffield) wouldn't be happy. no thanks. anyone remember how the Yanks were thinking about trading Matsui 5 weeks ago? hahaha. They have no faith in players. btw, i'd definitely take Matsui for Rusch and CPat...never happen, but i would, lol.
HSers are even more high risk seeing as how their bodies aren't as developed as a college junior or senior. Draft a middle infielder and end up with an outfielder. Wait, that's happened to us before (Luis Montanez). doh! Pawelek seems pretty good though...looks like he has a decent frame to add a little muscle. I doubt he'll ever have Prior's calves, but how many pitchers do? lol The only other knock i've heard on Pawelek is his mechanics, but those problems are deemed by scouts to be relatively easy to fix.
Percival was put on the 15 day DL by the Tigers with a partial tear of the right flexor pronator muscle mass. I love hearing the sound of $12 million being flushed down a toilet...when it isn't in Wrigley, that is.
