I think he was deflecting blame to take some heat off Holliday. bartman was different. A) Alou didn't missplay the ball. B) He's blaming towels, not a helpless fan. But I can understand your viewpoint.
Considering the towels were being waved behind him, I really dont see how it matters. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/7814EBF67D15291B8625764A000A41DA?OpenDocument Wainwright's also forgetting something called 'home field advantage.' The Dodgers can do whatever they choose when it comes to what color the towels are. Go whine about it somewhere else. He's trying to protect his teammate. It's not like he's going to throw Holliday under a bus.
Congrats - I love the move for the cards. I'm not a big Wallace fan (especially in Oak) and the other prospects are only okay. Holiday should thrive in StL - the ballpark seems to suit him pretty well. You guys definitely improved significantly for 2009 and I don't think a whole lot of damage was done to the future with the move. Chances are you get a couple decent picks to replace the lost prospects. Thanks. It's exciting to see the Cardinals going for it. I was worried they were content to waste Pujol's prime years with .500 baseball. You're forgetting about pixie dust. That's always a factor. How's the dust working for Greene and Ankiel these days? Ankiel snorted all of it. You sir deserve a gold star.
The Cards have quite a bit of payroll coming off their books this off-season. Even if he's awarded 20m, I think they can handle it. Plus, they've always said they will expand payroll for the right player. But you are correct, Tim. It's a calculated gamble.
2 1st rounders I believe Then this is a pretty good trade. We will see though. Those picks more than likely are at least 4-5 years away from the majors, and if Holliday leaves they have quite a few holes to fill next year. Add in the fact that Pujols contract is up soon, having a guy like Wallace under the teams control for the years ahead, and cheap would help big time. When is Wainwright up for free agency? Ludwick? Yadi? Wallace is a 1B/DH type with questionable power who was blocked by Pujols. Sometimes you have to push your chips in and go for it.
dan haren? He was a Cardinal first. He didn't come up in the A's organization. zing...did not know that...what did the redbirds give him up for? Mark Mulder That trade cuts like a knife.
If a heated race to land Halladay starts up, I'm not sure the Cards could put together a competitive offer even with Rasmus included. J.P. is probably going to want quality player(s) to plug in at 1B, SS or 3B. STL can't really offer that. I disagree Rasmus is a starting point. Before today's game he had the 11th highest WAR for position players in the NL. Not that it will happen, but Rasmus alone is more than enough to get the deal done.
I disagree. Our best trading chip, Wallace, is a 1B/DH waiting to happen, so he's blocked by the best player in baseball. Personally, I think management is willing to get something done if the deal looks favorable.
Theriot and Miles up the middle might be the Grittiest middle infield in baseball. It'll be interesting to see who shows up to BP earlier. I'm sure it'll become a quite competition.
