  1. Jake Fox fill that role? It means Murton goes down though, which to me isnt a bad thing right now considering how Lou is setting up the lineup.
  2. Please excuse me while I go cuss in the closet. :banghead:
  3. Try taking your tennis swing while falling back and up. IMO that is what Murton is seeing right now when he swings. Because he is fighting his body, trying to weight shift and stopping himself from doing so, his swing is slowed causing what you are seeing with bat angle. He is wonderful staying level through his swing. This is why he is still making contact like he does. Just like a tennis swing the longer you stay in the zone to strike the ball the better the opportunity to make contact, right? Do this yourself. Start with your feet sholder width apart in a good athletic stance. Now slide your foot toward the "pitcher" about six inches and shift your weight to about 20/80 to the back foot (front/back). Firm the front leg to the point that it is "locked". Now take a swing using weight shift without "unlocking" the front leg. You will find your body can not shift the weight and you too will experince the "bounce back" that I was talking about.
  4. There is a mechanical glitch in his swing right now. The short version from what I saw on TV Sunday is that he is to stiff on the front leg when he tries to weight shift. Think running into a brick wall, you cant go forward like that so you bounce back. My question is how willing is he to listen to suggestions to change from what hints have been dropped in the papers. Personally I think if he can make some adjustments in his swing he could be a .300/ .400 / .750+ as an everyday player. Edited to fix typo.
  5. It boils down to the Cubs fans were ok in the days of the Big Red Machine and the Nasty Boys when they were door mats. Now that the shoe is on the other foot Cubs fans are "insert derogatory comment caused by being used as a door mat comment here." If this team keeps it up you will hear lots more of it.
  6. It was an inside pitch but he is giving away on the backside. Hopefully they can work with Murt on that.
  7. Do I even want to ask why you were taking a particular interest in Murton's butt? Because if he is moving backwards with his butt in his swing it means that he is swinging with just the upper body. Which may be a leading reason that Murt tops so many balls into the ground and his power numbers arent quite like what would be expected.
  8. The next time up look and see if you agree with me that Murts butt goes back when he swings. It was very obvious in the 1st AB. The one that he blistered to LaRoche you can see him do it too in the robo cam view.
  9. What would the roles on the team be? Lets say that Hendry is trading to upgrade the bench at the trading deadline vs. trading to upgrade SS at the deadline. To upgrade the bench I would have to still ask lots more questions, but still saying all things more or less equal stats wise, then look at track record. Which player has shown that they can come off the bench and pinch hit successfully. Which success in your book and mine not be the same in this role. If this is what you mean by an intangable, along with a peer that can sit on the bench and say try this its worked for me which is what you implied in the first post then it might, might, might be the intangable player to fit that role. There are just so many factors that come into play here that were not discussed in the first post that it is hard to answer the first question well. Along with the group attack that goes on when someone dosent worship completely at the sabermetric altar that shuts down discussion here. :flame: To upgrade SS it is very easy to say the younger player. By taking the younger player not only have you upgraded SS now but the opportunity is there for that player to get better or have their best years with you. Hope this is what you had in mind when you asked the question.
  10. Helllllooooooo  Does anyone other than myself remember Pie getting hit on the hand? I know the holier than thou-ness runs rampant on this board but people please get some chill pills or something.
  11. Its been said already and wonderfully ignored. It's hard to not talk about it when the press comes in and asks about these things. Despite what some write beat write they arent as dumb as they come off. I am sure that DeRo gets asked this in a leading way for the sixth time in a row and the frustration rolls over. Good for DeRo not being quiet about it. About time we had somebody with some cohones. He is speaking the truth as he sees it. So far as I know this is still a free country.
  12. Mike Minor at Vandy is a guy you guys will have a man crush on come 09. With that said he is so strong academics wise that he may stay all four years at Vandy.
  13. Bruce beat XM to the punch. Just now said he has unknown injury.
  14. Here is the link to the download page. http://cms.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?page=downloads It lets you play one year in the demo mode. Fifth link down on the page. Buy the game and continue from there in your universe. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=3683 Ask questions in the forums, there is a solid core of folks there who can answer just about any question you have about the game.
  15. OOTP looks similar to a sim I used to use about 20 years ago called MicroLeague Baseball. I've been playing since OOTP3. It's a great baseball sim and online leagues are also a lot of fun. If nothing else, it helps pass the time in the offseason! OOTP is light years past Micro League. It is text based so if you want pretty pictures it wont be for you. If you want to be a GM then it is for you. The link to the site is http://cms.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?page=ootp-baseball Dont let the basic website fool you, the OOTP group just split from SEGA/Sports Interactive so they are in the process of setting up the website for themselves again.
  16. Be like me and fire up a new Sim league using Out Of The Park 8. Last night I completed Free Agency fighting tooth and nail to sign a guy who is 26 and career line is 314/442/566 playing in San Diego by signing him to a 10 year 20 mil a year deal. ](*,) Its not as good as the real thing but at least in my sim universe OBP is something the Cubs do indeed value.
  17. He had even worse numbers last year in winter league before they "messed with his swing". .216/.263/.296 to be exact. I don't think you can nail down messing with his swing as the one cause of his struggles. I'd love to see the drills the Cubs use to teach pitch recognition. The Cubs use drills?!?! (sarcasm)
  18. I'll bet Towers did it to tweak Hendry taking another 2b off the market.
