    I know the Padres scout in the area. He very much liked Burkes arm more so than the bat. He advised the front office to take him as a position player so they could sign him. Take it for what its worth.

    First outing is more fastball/change up pitching. I would be worried about the offense not hitting over the pitching at this point of ST.

    A guy I teach with played his college ball with a Cub minor league pitcher who was Jake Fox's roommate up to AA. Fox had his old roommate and the guy I teach with up to see him in St. Louis. From the dinner w/Fox on Saturday night: Oakland and Cleveland both inquired about Fox at the deadline. Fox was told that the Cubs wanted to keep him. Management is looking at guys for next year that they dont know about yet. Fox is of the opinion that since he isnt playing, they either are going to let him go or, he is going to have a spot on the 25 if nothing changes since he is out of options. Fox is very grounded and didnt give off "I am a big leaguer and you arent" vibe. Take it for what it is worth since it is third hand by the time I share it with you.

    Fox was not good. He set up to early, was sloppy giving signs, did not move when the ball was put in play, let his butt droop with runners on putting weight on his heels and ankles reducing his ability to block balls in the dirt, and gave half moon targets. In short he is college raw as an offensive college catcher. I can live with him as an emergency catcher, but emergency should be in big rainbow neon letters. Hopefully Hill is up to catching every game if they dont bring in a capable backup, otherwise Lou will have to come out in the middle of an inning and pull Fox from behind the plate because he dosent want to give up the go ahead run.

    95 times out of 100 on that play the runner is called out because the ball beat them, then the runner slides into the tag. If the ump is disciplined then Bud and Co. are bigger goof offs than they have lead us to believe so far. :2cents:

    For Dusty putting on a 3-0 take sign is announcing to the world that your players dont have the baseball smarts they should have. The ONLY way you swing at a 3-0 pitch is if it is your pitch in your location and you never miss that pitch. Especially down by two runs. Just another example of Dusty being Dusty.

    On XM at the winter meetings while talking to Fredie Gonzalez he said the Peavy deal was done. This was right around 6:30PM CST They went straight to Towers and just said that it is not a done deal at this time. It is likely to be done at the meetings but is not finished yet. On Cubs.com they are saying the Pods will take Marquis but we have to add Vitters.

    Uggla has a below average arm for a MLB second baseman. No way that he can move to third on an every day basis. He make Theriot look like he has a cannon. Maybe they are going to move Uggla to first? Edited to add last thought.

    I know Colvin was selected in the first round and all. However if he is in the top ten for the system it is not saying much about the system. Granted I have not seen him play recently but looking at his numbers it does not look to me that he has developed plate discipline which will make him Keishnick Part2 IMO.

    Hey it isnt Mid afternoon in Hawaii yet!!! Honestly, raise your hand if you think things will be ready in a week for a game to be played in Houston; much less this week. For once I wouldnt mind a silly congressional investigation.

    I would have said Notre Dame up until early this summer. The first coach I worked for is now the Head Coach for the baseball program at the University of North Dakota. Now when I see ND I start to think North Dakota, its all about your frame of reference.
