  1. Getting back to ARod, what else could work? The Yankees are going to need a 3B. I doubt they'll accept Moore as an option. Vance touched on Hank Blalock. Are there other options we could send their way in a 3 team deal?
  2. Choi Salary dump. Florida was going to non tender Lee after the Baltimore deal fell through. Hendry swooped in and made a decent deal, but Choi's value wasn't near Hill's at the moment. How about Francis Beltran, Justin Jones, and Brendan Harris? Yeah, Nomar was injured, but Jim still sold pretty high and got Nomar and Murton out of it. Without Murton, that's not that great of a deal. We got 35 games out of Nomar in 2004, and 60 or so in 2005. Not that we gave up a lot, but we didn't exactly get what we were expecting from Nomar. Yeah but you cant put hindsight into that. At the time Nomar was a big deal. At the time that was a great deal. You're right. At the time it was a steal. I still think that since we nabbed Murton, it was well worth it (especially considering we didn't give anything up, really).

  5. I admittedly may be nuts here, but I think Hendry may be a bit more spend happy this season than any other. If the payroll increase rumors are true, and Hendry is trying to save his job, wouldn't he go all out for all the big names he can? I'm thinking an infield of A-ram, A-rod, Soriano and D-Lee would be fearsome. Then C Lee, Jacque/Murton, and whoever you have in CF. I'd even live with Pierre with that lineup. I'm not a guy to figure up all the salaries, and I'm sure that would be one spendy lineup, but I really think Jim is wanting to do something like this. I could be crazy though. Hendry tends to overdo whatever his offseason theme is. If his theme is spend, spend spend, we could see that infield.
  6. I don't believe the limit is tied to Type A's only. I think it extends down to Type B and C as well. Is it tied to your draft picks, or just to the number of FA's you lose? Looking at it our only type A is likely to be Pierre.
  7. I get the feeling that the only way the Cubs get him is if Ramirez leaves, which means 3B it is. Because NY won't deal ARod without a good 3B coming back, or because Hendry won't resign Ramirez? Because Hendry wouldn't resign Ramirez and trade for Rodriguez. Plus, I think he's still giddy about getting Izturis for SS. He could always move Izturis to 2B (not that he should). Actually, it's not a terrible idea, given Izturis' arthritic elbow.

I think even Hendry's not so dumb as to think Arod/ARam isn't better than ARod/Izturis. We'll see, though. Maybe all this talk about seriously building for a WS is more than just talk.
  9. Isn't there a limit to the number of Type A FA's you can sign?

  11. The funny thing about the national reports is that they're assuming ARod would play 3B. He shouldn't even be playing 3B for NY. He's a fantastic SS.
  12. At least if the Cubs trade Hill, they're selling high for once.
  13. No. Z is the best player in that deal by far.
  14. Why would the Yanks want Izturis? They have Cano and some guy named Jeter up the middle. I'm sure Cesar could play 3B. Just a thought, though. I doubt they'd bite. Cashman isn't dumb; he's just forced into dumb decisions by the Tampa Cabal. I'd probably see if they'd do Prior and Eyre. Pie is my deal-closer. I'd give them Moore, too. Also, keep in mind if we take back Pavano or Wright, our player cost likely decreases.
  15. Given that Hendry had shown a willingness to deal Prior for Tejada (regardless of what he said in public), I wouldn't be shocked if Prior was the centerpiece to a deal. Prior/Pie/Eyre is a very realistic package, but I could see the Cubs trying to sell NY on maybe Izturis instead of Pie.
  16. I think this was the perfect time to have a bad game. Now they'll have the bye week to crunch film, take a deep breath, and play better against SF.
  17. they've been on the field most of the game
  18. Rex is going to have to make a FG drive yet...
  19. aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  20. I would. I love Rex, he's the better QB, but tonight he just doesn't have it. I might go to the 'pen. I'll say this: if they stick with Rex, and he comes through, Lovie will have given him the biggest confidence boost possible.
  21. What is he, like 12-32 with 3 picks?
  22. Seriously, when are people going to stop making statments like these? He's not Manny Ramirez. He's "loafed" maybe 6 times all of last season. He's not some lazy malcontent who won't play for a guy who might yell at him. Read the rest of his post. . I did. I stand by my post. It's not the first time someone has insinuated that Piniella's "fiery" demeanor would make the "loafing" Ramirez opt out and chase FA. It's a media creation. It's a strawman argument. Constantly implying your best offfensive player is lazy is insane. I agree with you. I just was unasure if you were attacking his post or not. Because he goes on to say he really doesn't feel that way. He may not think Aramis would delay because of Lou. Others do. He may not think Aramis is a lazy oaf. Others do, and the more play it gets on any media outlet (nsbb included), the more it will fester. Reputations in Chicago are hard to shake. This one is undeserved.
