  1. The fact that they drafted a college reliever, who they may or may not turn back into a starter, should have absolutely no effect whatsoever on their willingness to trade Ceda, or any other prospect. He hasn't thrown a professional pitch yet. And even if he makes it, there's still a need for at least 6 relievers at once, more likely 7, and then a handful of others each season. And again, not sweating giving guys up because we have others around doesn't mean you should just keep adding those names to offers. My point was not so much to say that Ceda is expendable because of Cashner, but that relievers shouldn't block you from a deal that makes you better. I'm not trying to pull a Truffle/Weiters thing here. Would you really hesitate on getting Harden over Jose Ceda? Do any of those names strike you as untouchable?
  2. The system was highly rated with Hendry at the helm, but was it actually any better? The Cubs have actually begun to produce big league talent since Hendry left the minor league matters to others. Prior to Hendry becoming GM, the system produced Zambrano, Cruz, Choi, Hill, Patterson, and I suppose Wellemeyer. Z is the only guy to have sustained success. Patterson had the 1.5 good seasons, Wellemeyer has had a nice 1st half this season, and Cruz is a decent reliever. Post-Hendry GM has produced Soto, Theriot, Fontenot (who shouldn't count since he wasn't from our system), Murton (ditto), Gallagher, Hill, Marshall, and Marmol. The post Hendry years are more productive, and it's not really that close.
  3. One of those is a really cheap deal. One is fairly expensive. What would you offer? My offer would probably be closer to the second, although I think the 2nd deal is too much talent to give up. You just implied that Pie, Atkins, and Veal=Hill, Ceda, Cedeno and Colvin when the 2nd deal has probably close to double the value of the first deal. They aren't comparable at all. This is just my opinion, but I figure Beane is going to want either Pie or Hill. He's probably going to want at least one, and possibly 2 pitchers in the deal. Do I think Atkins/Veal=Ceda, Cedeno and Colvin? Kinda. Apart from the centerpiece players (Pie/Hill), I'm not all that concerned about giving any of the other guys up. Colvin at best is Mark Kotsay. Ceda is a good prospect, but didn't we just draft a college reliever? Wouldn't that make Ceda somewhat expendable? Cedeno is filler. Veal and Atkins are P prospects. I don't sweat giving up either, because half our rotation is signed fairly long term and the other half is Gallagher and Marshall. As far as what to do about a backup SS without Cedeno, those guys are easily found prior to the waiver deadline.

  5. I suppose the nice thing about our system being kind of crappy is that we're not likely to really miss anything we deal for Harden if he gets hurt.
  6. I kind of think Pie, Atkins and Veal gets it done. So would Hill, Ceda, Cedeno and Colvin. Maybe add Cedeno. I think that's a fair deal, really.
  7. but is there any kind of indication that he IS According to the Chicago Sun-Times...yes. Which is good. You know who else they should look at? Rich Harden. That guy is lights out and could be had for whatever.
  8. That is fine. Believe what you wish but I have no reason to make up such a story and post it on an internet message board. We'd totally believe your vague, insinuated accusations of bad-person-ness against unnamed members of the organization if you were a guy. ROFLMAO...old me would have probably gotten defensive on that. New me isn't going there. I actually think it's funny. You've made some amazing personal strides in the past 10 hours.

  10. Oh, come ON. You cannot seriously be making a connection between this post and an indifference to your health. One has nothing to do with the other. One is serious. The other is completely not. I'm telling you you're kidding. I'm not even going to ask. Get well soon.
  11. Which is why we need someone to call Billy Beane and conference Hendry in.
  12. You guys simply amaze me. I try to be helpful and you guys find my post hilarious? Unbelievable. I was sincere in what I posted, thinking that you might want to take the opportunity to express your opinion to Cub management as well...but I guess not. All kidding aside, I have my people tell incoming calls I'm in meetings all the time. It doesn't always mean I'm actually in a meeting. And I really wouldn't want Hendry making decisions based on the whims and opinions of the fanbase, because for everyone who wants a Harden or Burnett, you're going to have some dope wanting Greg Maddux back.
  13. It would be so fun to watch Atlanta violate our farm system in a Hudson deal.
  14. Hmm. Right here, you see, is a hitching post, possibly used by bandits, possibly while robbing a bank.
  15. You're Mr. Dutch. Get Ajax on the phone. I'll just drive over to FC Dallas being 15 miles away and have a little chat with his Grandfather ;-). Reading the article it seemed like Dennis Wise is the main reason NewCastle are very interested. I did find it interesting that Kenny Cooper Sr. is somehow involved in all of this. I am all about getting these kids over to Holland at a young age only to have them sold off by age 20 to a bigger club. Then again I also had a previous plan of sending over some of the worthless slutty US women to Brazil, have them get knocked up and bring them back to the states prior to the child being born :-). If Nike were really concerned with the future of US Soccer, they'd head down to the city of God with a wad of cash and find all the little Carlito Tevez's who want to move to Bradenton. I wholeheartedly endorse any plan to do this. Send Brad and Angelina to Brazil.
  16. You won't get any argument for me about Wilken and his drafting philosiphy. What I meant to say (and worded clumsily) was that I'd probably try and angle to give up Colvin before Pie, as in, if you want Hill, you can have Colvin. If you want Pie, you can have Veal. Something like that. I'm no longer making sense.
  17. Why does Rothschild get a free pass for the demolition of Mark Prior post-2003, as well as the regressions of Lilly and Marquis in 2008? I don't see what's so special about him. They jacked around with a pitcher in Hill who didn't need tinkering, and now they've lost half the season's worth of Good Rich Hill just so they could make his delivery to home plate faster.
  18. From the Cubs point of view, if you think Hill is a headcase (which I don't) and you think Pie isn't going to pan out (I don't know about this one), why not part with them in a deal for a guy who might put you over the top? I'd personally try and get by with like Colvin, Veal, Ceda and Cedeno, but I am not going to let Pie or Hill stand in the way of bolstering what's a suspect pitching staff.
  19. I'd really hate to trade Hill now. His value is really low and he might be turning it around. However, I would do that trade. That might be why he'd be attractive in a deal with Oakland. Beane would be buying low, especially if he's packaged with a Colvin or Pie.
  20. I don't know. I think LaPorta is a better hitter than Wieters, but Wieters adds value from the catcher's spot. It might be a lot closer, but who knows? You have to consider that LaPorta might have been a target of Shapiro's. Wasn't it reported that Hendry wasn't really involved with the CC talks, and Cleveland spurned a different package from the NYY? I know you hate yourself some Vitters, but Weiters might not have changed the equation.
