  1. GABP is very bland and boring. My highlight of the night was heckling Yhency Brazoban in the Dodger pen and seeing Adam Dunn hat that absolute moonshot that went into the river. The design is ugly. The seats are far away. The concessions are awful and expensive. Atmosphere was lacking. And its just an ugly place to watch baseball.... I thought I read in espn.com Page 2's ballpark tour that GABP was ranked towards the bottom of the "new" parks. Supposedly they had better plans for GABP but the Reds ownership cheaped out at the last minute and changed a bunch of stuff to save a couple million. I'm just gald they're building a new Yankee stadium. Yeah, its the field Ruth played on, but it's the stadium that CBS gut renovated in the early 70's. IMHO Yankee Stadium is one of the worst places to see a game: they're totally living in the past there.
  2. The stadium isn't even DONE yet. Maybe the 15 National League pennants and 9 World Series banners will give it "character"? What would give it more "character"? A mound in center field? A train track above the outfield? Ivy on the wall? A roof? A roller coaster in the bleacher section? No thanks. It's a baseball stadium, in it's purest form........ and is expected to be as comfortable as any stadium in baseball. That's fine, by me. What will give it character is the bestest most knowledgable fans in sports. :pukel: Soon to be followed by gay comments, fat jokes, and trailer trash remarks....... So predictable....... Oh shut up. agreed Thanks. Thread locked is 5....4....3....2...
  3. There, fixed it. BTW: that sucking sound you're hearing? That's your Chicago tax dollars traveling down I-55, past Springfield and heading downstate to East St. Louis Then again: Illinois may be stuck with East St. Louis, but at least Indiana gets stuck with Gary.
  4. It's the third place to be called Busch Stadium so the name should be Busch III. The old Sportsman's Park was called Busch Stadium in the late 50's and early 60's until the 'Cards moved to the concrete donut that was also called Busch Stadium. BTW: doesn't this look familiar? 5. Well, since HOK Sport has designed most of the stadiums (including GABP) over the last 15 years, that's going to happen. Off the top of my head I think that Safeco Field is about the only new baseball place they didn't design.
  6. Buddy in St. Louis sent me this link: http://brockfan20.50megs.com/photo.html (Scroll right as the pictures are in two columns.) Hate to say it: looks pretty nice. Although the dugouts look pretty short. No hiding way down at the end of the bench from the manager for players who mess up.
  7. Looks like they finished: http://www.kmov.com/topstories/stories/L_IMAGE.109d50b72cd.93.88.fa.d0.44ce8ed3.jpg
  8. Jim Edmonds' uniform uniform will be green from head to toe when the 'Cards start playing in their new place. Take his drama queen antics in the field and add the fact that the sod will be less than four weeks old: he's going to be fallin, slippin' and slidin' all over the place. It's Wednesday 3/15 and the Cardinals are just now laying down grass at the new Busch. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscitycounty/story/EBE4313D2F755E8F862571320070FA55?OpenDocument
  9. The only exception is during the playoffs: then they'll have both the HOME and AWAY broadcast teams. I think for the ALCS, NLCS and World Series they had three options: HOME, AWAY and the national Westwood One broadcast teams. I have an adjustable time delay on my home receiver so I synched up the XM broadcast with the FOX TV signal so I wouldn't have to listen to the world's worst TV announcer: Tim McCarver. Was amazing during the NLCS game 5 to listen to the differences between the St. Louis and Houston broadcasters after Pujols' monster home run.
  10. After my parents divorce my dad moved to Minnesota. According to him Kirby Puckett is an icon in the Twin Cities like Ernie Banks is here in Chicago.
  11. Getting pretty thin:
  12. Use stubhub.com. I've found tickets for some of the Cards/Cubs series for not much above face value. Not the greatest seats, but at least I'm in the place.
  13. I was just lurking over at stltoday.com Cards Talk forum. (to see what they were saying about Wood's knee surgery) Sounds like you'll be out of luck. Season ticket holders were given the chance today to buy extra tickets before the general public sales on Saturday morning. A lot of the Cards/Cubs in St. Louis games are already completely sold out or SRO.
  14. At least it wasn't called Enron Field at one point. Oh wait... or PacBell. Oh wait... or SBCPark. Oh wait... or AT&T Park...(just wait)
  15. Which places do you consider to be like a carnival? It seems to me like this stadium is going to be very similar to the ones in Denver, Philly, and Pittsburgh. IMHO the worst "carnival" place is Houston. The hill in center field. The flag powl at the top of that hill (now removed). The train running along tracks in left field when there's a Houston homerun. The extremely short left field corner. Plus the name: Minute Maid Park. I don't think Atlanta is that bad. But the new jumbotron the size of the Hancock Tower is cornball. Busch III will have the same model, but smaller.
  16. I'm not one for "cool quirks". I hate Houston's park with the too short left field, train on tracks and hill in dead center. (Thank goodness they got rid of the flagpole on the field.) Or San Diego's left field corner with the warehouse hanging over the field. Or Arizona's pool just over the center field fence. At least the new Busch has fair and decent dimensions and didn't turn it into a homerun park to build up Albert Pujols' numbers. The initial indications are that it will be a balanced to slightly favoring the pitcher park. Yeah maybe quirks wasn't the right word. I dunno from looking at those pictures the park looks really bland and doesn't stand out to me from other recent ballparks. Maybe its just a result of the number of new ballparks around. You're right. Having so many new places make it blur all together. Same thing with all the new football stadiums. Seattle's Qwest Field is about the only one I like and find original.

  18. I was lurking around the Cards Talk for at stltoday.com and found this link with a bunch of pictures from inside the new Busch stadium. http://www.missouri.edu/~marwc4/busch/busch.html I know the left field was not supposed to be done 100% by opening day. But it looks like a lot of the park (including the field) needs a ton of work. However it does look pretty cool.
  19. 20 sessions open: still not in. This continues to suck.
  20. Still waiting... *sigh* This sucks.
  21. I was in St. Louis this last weekend. The new Busch looks nice but they're going to have to haul (donkey) to get the place done in time. According to people down there they've been told all along that the left field seating will not be done for opening day. They're hoping for mid-summer to be 100% done. However the other areas still look like they need a lot of work. No grass on the field, lots of finishing work etc. http://www.johnsebben.com/photos/20060210A004P.jpg http://www.johnsebben.com/photos/20060210A028P.jpg
  22. I agree; I'm also shocked with the number of anti-Pierre posts on this board. Kind of dishartening when people are so negative when the Cubs make a move forward.
  23. Looks like they're down to a small section of the old Busch Stadium, and that small section will be taken down the evening of Wednesday 12/7. Thank goodness the last of the cookie cutter multipurpose stadiums will soon be gone. http://www.kmov.com/slideshows/051207_stadium_slideshow_files/slide0084_image002.jpg
  24. ? are deer strange and unusual in st louis? In suburban areas? Yes. In downtown St. Louis? No. But then again look at how deserted downtown St. Louis is. If terrorists set off a small nuclear device during a non-game evening in downtown St. Louis, the only people they would kill would be the few lonely cleaning crews, some security guards and maybe a dozen hotel guests. Any time I've been to St. Louis when there isn't a Cardinal game, the downtown is a ghost town. I think that's probably true for most small-market baseball cities. Using Chicago as your curve is a little unreasonable. Chicago is on another level. Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, Iowa are more happening at night than St. Louis. I don't know about Cedar Rapids, but Iowa City is a major college town, and you're right....... it's bustling. Of course, there's not much "downtown" to cram everybody into, so it's going to look a little busier. I love the Dublin Undergound and whatever the name of the pizza place above it is.
