    Brian Giles is not eligible to be traded. He did not clear waivers. And even if he were, he killed the Boston trade. Why would he come to Chicago? moot point, but Boston was one of the 8 clubs in his limited NTC. no mention of the Cubs so he really couldn't have said anything but goodbye

    All I know was the fact that Owings future would not be on the mound. I was never impressed with Owings as a pitcher, even at GT and Tulane. I felt Owings future was likely at 1st base or LF. You really think that Micha could be a position player? He did a pretty good job of it in college. True, but he's been pitching for 2 years. Yeah obviously he still can hit, but athletically I don't think hes in the shape to play a corner outfield position. he's been pitching for much longer than 2 years. he's also been hitting much longer than 2 years.

    Heard something on ESPN (maybe SC) last night about how the Yankees (surprised to see ESPN talk about them) were having discussions about getting him, but he can't get his fastball and slider right. If I remember right they said the slider is sitting around the high 70's. that's where mine was in 7th grade. of course, it was still there 5 years later, usually hovering around the middle of the plate and being hit really hard

    that article also says he is in his 6th season w/the Pads which would make him a 10/5 guy, but in an earlier thread about a possible trade of Giles to the Cubs I think nilo pointed out that he signed/was traded to the Pads slightly less than 5 years ago. this is his 6th season, but it hasn't been 5 full years yet (August 26)
