  1. Damn, I always thought it was because they put together too many crappy teams.
  2. You're talking out of both sides of your mouth here. First you say "we don't know what kind of deals he nixed" and then you say "There were plenty of Cub players that could have been traded at the height of their value but were kept and dealt away for nothing". We never know what another team is offering for a player, so how can we criticize Hendry for holding on to them or dealing them for nothing. Using your example of Rich Hill, what amazing offer was made at the height of his career? It's very true that we have no idea what offers Hendry has turned down over his tenure as Cubs GM. All I am saying is that there are plenty of examples of players that Hendry held onto whose value dropped significantly before they were traded. I have no idea what offers were on the table, but I do know that Hendry tends to hold onto players. You can't say, "Hendry is good at trading because he doesn't give up much talent" while ignoring the fact that this is often due to his reluctance to trade players at the height of their value. Reluctance to trade away players is a double-edged sword of sorts. But again, how can you say that he's reluctant to trade players at the height of their value if you don't know whst's being offered. If somebody offers at low A ball player for Marmol (now at the height of his value), should Hendry accept it because Marmol's value might decrease? The whole discussion is based on what is being offered at the time and none of us have that information. He's already said he doesn't know what was being offered.
  3. And he's been released... http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=5358730
  4. If we're talking about a single season, perhaps, but the record is pretty telling over an 8 year period.
  5. Just asking, why not move Soriano to 1B for the rest of the season? Colvin could stay in a spot where he's fairly comfortable, Soriano has played in the infield (granted, not very well) before and might be willing to move. Maybe they could convince him it would take some strain off his knees and help him stay healthier through the season. They'd probably just call up Hoffpauir, though. I could see Lou preferring to not move Soriano to 1B because he's right-handed, easily forgetting that Lee has been there for the past several years.
  6. What do the Cavs have to send the other way? LeBron
  7. I don't think consistently is the right word there. I would accept intermittently. That has nothing to do with this thread, unless your overall conclusion is that he deserves another chance based on the results of his deals.
  8. go ahead and cite me as your source on 312sports.com
  9. He could also approach it thinking it may be his only way to save his job.
  10. Wade and Bron have Bosh tricked into going to Miami by telling him they're both going to be there as well when they're both actually planning on playing for the Bulls. I can't wait to see the look on his face.
  11. Hendry is good at trading. I'd be fine with him orchestrating a fire sale. Greg Maddux for Cesar Izturis is not good. Who are some other trade deadline deals that made us all giddy with delight? Steve Trachsel? Since Hendry probably knows he has no future with this team, I don't trust him to make any deals that could impact the future. Nomar, but the Izturis deal brings us back to even.
  12. I just took a quick peek at the box score and was baffled how Aramis got his avg up to 297 then realized it was his slg I was looking at.
  13. It's times like this I like to think back to the 2008 Cubs.
  14. are you watching now? Holy [expletive], how did they get another? That's got to be some sort of record.
  15. I remember seeing my fantasy team tank due to a ton of injuries in 2002 so I decided to trade for as many Cubs players as possible. I had 7 position players (the guy who had Hundley never checked in) and my staff had Wood, Bere, Fassero and Farnsworth. I think I had Stynes and Roosevelt Brown on my bench. Remarkably, I did not finish in last place.
  16. I ate at a Waffle House in Paducah so the state's OK in my book. Calipari, not so much.
  17. Why the hell is it that every time I tune in to catch the score, THEY ONLY HAVE 1 [expletive] HIT?
  18. Why would they move Soto to 1B when they already have Colvin?
