  1. He has poor circulation in his legs from riding the bench so much lately. It's not his fault.
  2. No worries. He'll drive in the winning run with his glove.
  3. Me neither. I can't believe Houston didn't make Novoa throw two strikes in a row. I guess they got the memo that you can't walk across home plate.
  4. Or Garner isn't very smart. Dusty is normally among the league leaders in pitchouts.
  5. Ohman very inside on the first pitch to Lamb...
  6. Yep. I would definitely retaliate. The Cubs have absolutely nothing to lose. Novoa is not good anyway, so it would be fun to make him useful.
  7. Well, yeah, since he's not on the team. I was talking about the differences in the leaders of the team. Lee is a baseball/team man and Sosa is a Sosa man. It's nice to see a guy be there even though the team is struggling. I'd like to see Dusty be a team man and not a Dusty man. Leaving Z in for 121 pitches last night was all about Dusty, not the Cubs. As for Sosa/Lee, I'd take both in their primes. And Mateo just hit Clemens!
  8. The speed in the lineup is really paying off tonight. Good strategy.
  9. Pierre has been going to left quite a bit, especially over tha last 2 months. Izturis, I don't know about. I've seen Izturis line serveral balls down the left field line in his Cubs career-of course though, we haven't seen enough of him to know anything much about his tendencies. Izturis makes outs to all fields.
  10. Way to swing at the first pitch, Ronny. Ronny's P/PA tonight: 1
  11. Of course. When Bob Boone used a 4-man rotation in 1995, Kevin Appier and Chris Haney both ended up with arm injuries. Leaving Appier out to throw 141 pitches right before he went down probably had something to do with his injury.
  12. For BP subscribers only: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=1596 http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=1605 http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=1622 It's a three-part article by Rany Jazayerli. He's holding a chat at 5:00 tonight, so feel free to ask him about the pros and cons of the 4-man rotation, Dusty's usage of Z, etc: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/chat/chat.php?chatId=220 I believe non-BP subscribers can participate in the chat.
  13. The five man rotation is a huge factor in starters pitching fewer innings. Blame LA for that, IIRC. They went to a five-man rotation not because they were trying to eliminate injuries, but because they had 5 good starters and wanted all 5 in the rotation. There's been significant research that shows that starters in a 4-man rotation are not any more likely to be injured than those in a 5-man. I think Boone in Cincinnati was the last manager to try a 4-man rotation, but he left starters in to pitch 130-plus pitches. Earl Weaver used to only carry 10 pitchers on the roster, and he frequently went with just 9.
  14. Congratulations, Fred! I'm really happy for you.
