  1. In this game: no, I can't remember one. On the season: almost certainly they have hit a groundball.
  2. This thread needs more Neifi saving us.
  3. It may be wrong, but it feels so right.
  4. Jones is clutch. Let's extend him now.
  5. Watch out! The young uns on this board will tell you you're not a true Cubs fan if you don't want them to win today. Personally, I'm just waiting for someone to post during the national anthem so I can question their patriotism. Still upset about yesterday eh? Not really. I actually think it's pretty funny that there are some here that are so short-sighted that they aren't willing to hope for the things necessary for change.

  7. Welcome Mr. Hendry! I should hope the comment was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Probably, but it's hard to tell when no smileys are used. Losing breeds sarcasm.
  8. No. Dusty is living, breathing indictment of the Baseball Writers Association of America. If you're cool with Bill Plaschke and Paul Sullivan voting on manager of the year, I've got some property I'd like to sell you.
  9. From yesterday's BP chat: "You're missing the worst part of the Womack signing, which is that there's about a 50% chance that he hits .301/.302/.302 on the rest of the year and becomes their long term "answer" at second base." http://www.baseballprospectus.com/chat/chat.php?chatId=197
  10. But I wasn't arguing that I was a bigger Cubs fan than you or anyone else. I was simply responding to the claim that I'm not a Cubs fan.
  11. Why do you want them to win? Their chances of making the playoffs are just a little better than 1 in 400 at this point. Cubs management says it's too early to throw in the towel when they should be thinking about how to make this team better next year and the near future. This season is already a lost cause. It's not pessimism. It's realism. Check the simulations: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_odds.php http://www.coolstandings.com/baseball_standings.asp?i=1 http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_oddspec.php Personally, I am rooting for them to lose right now, and I'm not ashamed to say it. We will not win as long as the current management stays in place. If the Cubs start winning some games now, they might finish in fourth or fifth place. If that's good enough for you, then I'm glad you're not the GM. Well then your not a cub fan if you are "rooting" for them to lose. That does not make any sense. Yeah its a tuff time to watch them play, but that being said I will NEVER root for them to lose. I went to 40 games last year. How many did you go to? Don't tell me I'm not a Cubs fan. I would gladly see them finish in last place if it meant changes would be made to improve their chances in 2007. And you didn't respond at all to the fact that they have worse than a 1 in 300 chance of making the playoffs this year. That being the case, what's the point of winning now? It only makes it easier for the same people who are part of the problem to stick around.

  13. Oops. Looks like one run won't be enough today. VIVA DUSTY-BALL!
  14. Because Dusty loves giving away outs. Ok is there something wrong with moving a runner over to third base with no outs? It gave the cubs a run. Who knows if baker allowed hairston to swing away and he pops up in the infield then you have 1 out and pierre stuck on 2b still. Walker then grounds out 4-3 now you have 2 outs with pierre on third. Then Barrett flys out so now the score is 0-0 instead of 1-0. That is why Baker had Hairston bunting If 1 run is going to make the difference today, it's a good play to give up an out to move a runner from 2nd to 3rd when there's no outs. The likelihood of scoring one run goes up, but the likelihood of scoring more than one run goes down. If Dusty believes Marshall only needs one run today, then it was a good decision.
  15. I think 2B is the position Bynum has played the most, actually.
  16. PECOTA projects him at .287/.311/.598. His 90th percentile is .304/.337/.641. He can play multiple defensive positions, but he plays none very well. He's projected to be out of baseball entirely by next year. He'll produce at the same level as a minor leaguer who would be paid the league minimum. At least with a minor leaguer, there's a chance for development. With Womack, there is no upside.
  17. PECOTA has Albert Pujols as Cabrera's #2 comparable. Frank Robinson is #1. Both have high similarity scores.
  18. Juan Cruz for Andy Pratt.
  19. What would be the point? As of right now, the Cubs have a 1 in 300 shot of making the playoffs this year. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_odds.php Why would we trade for anybody who won't be here for the next two or three years?
  20. Nicely played. I'm hoping I'm not the only one who got the reference. I've got a grad degree in English, and I'm sure there are others here who've read Beckett.
  21. That would have been a good trade for the Mets. Hernandez is clutch in the postseason. What has Kris Benson ever won?
