  1. Except it would be nice to see Pagan for Jones vs a lefty. True-I guess I was prepared for that, since Bruce already said on Tuesday that Murton would start on Tuesday and Wednesday and then Pagan on Thursday-so I guess I just didn't think about any possible lineup changes because of the planning that was already set out. Didn't it say somewhere in that thread(the one where Bruce mentions Murton) that Jones is suppose to hit Davis very well? He's 5 for 11 with a double against Davis. I'm not sure we can place much stock in 11 plate appearances, but I suppose it's fine to start Jacque today.
  2. I've read interviews in which Jones says he still sees himself as a centerfielder. He was only moved to RF to allow Torii Hunter to play CF. But I agree, Hendry is not that creative.
  3. Has anyone actually seen Izturis and Neifi at the same place at the same time? Hmmmmm.
  4. Dan Fox, a Cubs fan, has a full column on the trade in today's Baseball Prospectus. Dan cites Dusty's famous "base-clogging" quote in the article: The article then goes on to show that Dusty and Hendry have populated the bench with infielders who can't get on base: Ramon Martinez, Tony Womack, Neifi Perez, Lenny Harris, Jose Macias, Rey Ordonez, etc. Fox then states that the Cubs are now making the same mistakes with starting infielders that they've made with bench players in the past. Fox points out that Neifi is actually a better defender than Izturis (a point that I've argued in this thread), and that the Izturis trade is doubly hurtful to the Cubs because it means Cedeno moves to second, where his offensive problems are even more of a liability. His conclusion:
  5. One of my favorite conversations at a baseball game happened at one of the night games vs the Mets last year. I was sitting next to a Chicago lawyer who knows a girl who got pregnant by one of the Mets' bullpen guys. The girl sitting next to me said that one of the Washington Nationals, "a guy named Brad Wilkerson," got one of her friends pregnant. The best I could do was one of my friends got knocked up by a minor leaguer.
  6. Singular in one clause and plural in the other. Fred, Fred, Fred. I'm a very cunning linguist, no ? Did Fred just say, "cunnilingus!" I was beginning to think nobody was going to catch that one. I didn't want to catch it.
  7. One thing that struck me: Even though the Tigers are 9 games ahead of the Mets for the best record in the league, the Mets had a higher probability of making the playoffs. There are two other good teams in the AL Central and two very good teams in the AL East. The AL West will get one playoff spot, of course, so there are five contenders playing for the three remaining spots. The Mets could falter and still make the playoffs because of the mediocrity in the NL.
  8. Zambrano would most likely throw 130 pitches and start every single game if we went to the playoffs. We'd be favorites to win the world series for sure then, but it would probably kill Zambrano. I would probably be willing to sacrifice him at this point. Just like the cow in Apocalypse Now. Sorry, El Toro.
  9. Brewers take second on defensive indifference. Do the statisticians keep track of offensive indifference? I think the Cubs would be among the league leaders.
  10. Dempster, who relies on control, walks Brewer guy. We're well short of 25 pages, gentleman (and ladies?). I'm on a hard post count, so I'm out of here after this batter.
  11. Are you questioning Bill Schroeder? They has a name? Yes, they sucks.
  12. Brewers color guy just said Dempster relies on control. No, he doesn't.
  13. Singular in one clause and plural in the other. Fred, Fred, Fred. Um, people in America us "they" when they don't know someone's name, all the time. Neifi Perez beats homeless people all the time, too, but that doesn't make it right.
  14. Singular in one clause and plural in the other. Fred, Fred, Fred.
  15. Brewers announcers just said Baker has hushed his critics now that the Cubs are winning.
  16. They were just setting up Izturis to bat leadoff in the 9th. Izturis is comfortable leading off. Grady Little thinks he's a good leadoff hitter. And Grady Little is a genius. Just ask Bill Plaschke.
  17. Ditto. OK, it's 50-50 that he's NOT coming back. It'll come down to whatever Hendry's gut tells him to do. So the Cubs are going to sign a cheeseburger in the offseason? http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/images/headshot_141.jpg Hah! King gave me a nasty look when I asked him to sign my cheeseburger.
  18. He's seeing 3.39 pitches per plate appearance, so he's the least patient Cub besides Neifi Perez. Just sayin.
  19. Like I said, be careful. I know someone who lost nearly $300 on $400 worth of Cubs at Cardinals tickets this year.
  20. Don't discount that for a minute. Speaking of discounts, does anyone know the average salary for a manager? We could get an all-star for what Baker makes.
  21. I'm a Cubs fan. How would I know? Tickets usually don't go onsale until just a few days before games, I think. The Mets are virtually guaranteed to have home field advantage in their first series, so they'll probably start selling tickets earlier than other playoff teams.
  22. But 5.5 games out with several teams in between is much different than 5.5 games with no teams in between. There are several different sites that run the remaining games of the season through simulators, and the Cubs make the playoffs less than once in every 1000 simulations. It's possible, but it's about as likely as Izturis having a multi-homer game.
  23. Be careful. Resale for above face is prohibited in Missouri, and Cardinals fans don't pay above face like fans in other cities, anyway. And you've still got to get through the Virtual Waiting Room.
  24. Why the long face? A Cub win tonight and a Cardinal loss moves the Cubs to 13 games back. But still 9.5 back in the Wild Card Not a chance.
