  1. I'd love to have Dunn, but I'm anxious to see what Murton can do in a full year in LF. We already lost a few key draft picks and don't have many top notch prospects in our system left, I don't want to give away the few that we have when Murton might get the job done.
  2. amen It's a blessing that he's not playing....that gives us at least a couple extra weeks of not having to hear his name 24 hours a day.
  3. I don't think I'd like to entertain any deals involving Guzman until I see what all this hype has been about this offseason. Supposedly this work he's done with Tom House has turned him around significantly.
  4. count me in for sure :D and my 2cents regarding the Miller pickup - I'm very pleased.
  5. this is by far, the best news this offseason. Boras is the worst thing in baseball since the sox uniform consisted of shorts.
  6. I agree Corey's laziness played a role in his demise, but would you bring a player up to start CF for your 100mil team with this kind of advancement: low-A Lansing: 320 with 20 homers and 33 stolen bases Skip high A: (which is very understandable) AA: .261 AAA: .253 MLB thru 59 games: .221 He very clearly struggled at every level he was advanced to, and the jump to the majors is not a small one.... Maybe he was rushed, but I get tired of the no-win scenarios fans place on management. If he doesn't get the playing time at the ML level then it's because the manager hates kids and won't give them a chance. For some reason people expect all kids to have a formulaic culturing process through the minors. If they get there before age 23 they're rushed, and if they don't hit MLB at the specific age of 25, then they suddenly become to old to ever make it. It simply doesn't work that way. The Cubs took a chance on Patterson and it didn't work. End of story. His age had absolutely no bearing on my opinion as to him being rushed. He was rushed because he declined significantly at every level he was promoted to. Teams take chances on every single player drafted, nothing is a given. Patterson's ridiculous success at the high school level reduced that amount of chance by a large sum. The Cubs rushed him through the system and blatantly ignored that he was not improving when advanced to a higher level. End of story.

  8. Huh? Who is Lidge going to close games for with the O's? And Taveras' stats are not good: http://www.baseballreference.com/t/taverwi01.shtml Taveras in his rookie year ('05) had very respectable #'s, and is great defensively. His #'s in the postseason where outstanding. Lidge is one of the best closer's in the game, regardless of his post-pujols-postseason demise. Miggy's #'s declined post-roid and may even further. How much would Lidge/Taveras get om '06? Then Miggy? Weigh the difference..... The Orioles need to spend more $ and they'll have the cash to do so and receive great talent in return. Chen and Bedard had respectable seasons last year, and with the $ they saved, they could snag another quality starter. Taveras would solidify an outfield that has definite room for an improvement, and would make a nice 1-2 punch with Roberts.
  9. Yeah, except Pie's fate is unknown at this point and he had a solid season in AA last year, ifmemory serves. So you are guessing, right? Yes, solely a guess on my part.... AND, Pie has had ALOT more success in the minor's than Patterson ever did. The problem I'm afraid of is if Pie has an unsuccessful '06 season in the minor's the Cubs will bring him up too soon. If Pie has another great season, however, I would have no problem or complaints with him advancing to the major's. The main "similarites" I was referring to is if the Cubs brought him up when he wasnt ready.....however, I think he's a whole lot closer to being ready than Patterson ever was.
  10. If I was the Orioles, I'd take that offer of Taveras and Lidge in a heartbeat.....
  11. This is where the Cubs failed.... low-A Lansing: 320 with 20 homers and 33 stolen bases Skip high A: (which is very understandable) AA: .261 AAA: .253 MLB thru 59 games: .221 In 2002 he was the starter. There is an obvious decline as he was moved up, and if that's not enough proof that he needed considerably more time in the minor's, then I don't know what is! AND, I see so many similarities to the the same scenario happening with Pie....
  12. Excellent article that tells it how it is.....the cubs ruined Patterson with their usual bad decision making. Granted, Patterson is somewhat of a lazy ballplayer, and there's no excuse for dropping out of winterball in '01 and refusing to play this offseason. BUT, I place 80% of his demise on the Cubs organization.
  13. I think the bottom line is that we are witnessing this organization going rapidly downhill and there is no reason why we shouldn't be fielding a better team than we did in '03. PUKE :x
  14. And ironically, of that 100+ mil payroll, only one of our suppsed ace pitchers is getting paid big $, and that's the one who won't even be with us a full season!! So, with a horrid offensive outfield and middle infield, where is all this money going?
  15. I'm exhausted of all this Tejada talk.....I hope he doesn't come to Chicago.
  16. yea, I'd really like to know who else is included in the deal besides Pie.....
  17. Jimbo, I've got one quick question, and I apologize if I get a little choked up.....it's just that everytime I think of you puke rises up the back of my throat and sometimes makes it hard to talk..... 1) What is your biggest fear in life, as it appears "failure" isn't even close to the top of your list........?
  18. I think it could make them worse, but probably makes them stagnant in the present, and worse in the future. That is so very true....
  19. Baltimore and the Cubs aren't on the same level as far as recent years. They are going on about 8 straight years of sub .500 baseball, and don't look to be any better. The Cubs have been over .500 3 of the past 5 years, and in the playoffs twice since BMore's last trip. In addition, they've been shedding payroll, while the Cubs have consistently added payroll. He's also on record talking about wanting to see progress toward winning. To players, progress toward winning = spending more and more, the Cubs are doing that more so than the O's. And it's not entirely his choice where he goes. He really sounds like he wants out of BMore, and as long as he doesn't end up in Pittsburgh, Cincy, Tampa or Kansas City, he might be happy to leave. Makes sense to me.... I think gaining Tejada and losing Prior will make this team even worse, though.
  20. Here's the problem I find with the Tejada deal....if he wants to play on a winning team, why would he want to play for the Cubs? And if we give up Prior for Tejada, 06 is gonna be a really long season. This whole team is built around having a healthy SP staff full of three aces and two #3 starters (one of which is arguably one of the top fifteen pitchers of all time). Our offense this year is not close to being good enough if Wood's health is questionable all year and Prior is playing in Baltimore.
  21. Kerry will not make the start of the season SOLEY because he was used out of the pen the end of last season. Had they not used him out of the pen, he would've had surgery sooner and would be starting at the beginning of the season instead of a month or so later.
  22. Trading Prior for Tejada is the dumbest move Hendry could ever make. Our rotation will absolutely blow without Prior, and I could care less if we get Bedard. Without Prior we have an ace in Z, and if Wood isnt healthy our pitching staff will absolutely suck. It's nice to have alot of offense, but we'll be considerably overpaying for that production because it is a rare find @ SS. Regardless, stellar pitching outweighs picking up another bat. With Prior on the mound, we've got an excellent shot @ winning 1 out of every 5 games. Can Tejada make that difference?
  23. Santana. And if I had to go the opposite route, $ WAS relevant and I was going for the best "bang for the buck", I'd take Duke.
  24. the '04 Rogers reference was exactly what I thought I'd incorporate in this thread until I got down to your post..... I think that's about as bad as it gets for an 18 game winner.
