  1. Mike Anderson to Arkansas. http://eye-on-college-basketball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/26283066/27987863
  2. Buzz Williams is kinda an a-hole, but he seems to be an okay basketball coach. Also, not that it really matters, but Richardson didn't say that. I think you're dwelling a bit much on the end of the MU vs MU NCAA game from two years ago. Buzz is actually a really solid coach and good guy who often lets his emotions get the better of him (aforementioned game, several awkward postgame pressers). Buzz is a very solid recruiter. Granted, after Crean left there was a lot of playing time to offer, but it is remarkable that Marquette was able to not skip a beat and keep making the tourney even with Crean's last two empty recruiting classes. He went JUCO for those and got some really solid guys (many of which are three year players) like Jimmy Butler, Darius Johnson-Odom, and Jae Crowder. His players also love him, though he certainly pushes them hard. However, there were a few midyear transfers (largely freshmen who wanted more playing time). As a game coach, he's improving. His timeout management went from terrible to average. Offensively, I've heard he runs a similar style of offensive set to Bill Self, but someone with more basketball Xs and Os knowledge would have to confirm this. He's got a mantra about making more FTs than the other team attempts. Defensively, his teams seem to emphasize the wrong defensive focus (lower FG% vs more turnovers, etc). That's part of the reason Marquette plays as many close games as they do. By and large, I really like Buzz and hopes he stays at Marquette. I don't see him leaving for Arkansas personally, as I think a move wouldn't be so much about money as about returning closer to his Texas home. In that vein, I see Oklahoma being a bigger threat (maybe Texas Tech, but unlikely), but Arkansas is close enough that he might deem it worth it. Probably also helps that the SEC West is terrible and not nearly the gaunlet that the Big East is.
  3. Burr and Higgins need to lose their jobs. Seriously. You could've wrote this response to pretty much any post on the board and it would've been no less true The three refs involved in yesterday's travesty have voluntarily withdrawn from the rest of the Big East Tournament. Will be interesting to see if there's any carryover to the NCAAs. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/news/story?id=6201265
  4. You cannot tell me that time remaining on the clock is not reviewable. That's an absolute travesty. And I don't even like Rutgers. Burr and Higgins need to lose their jobs. Seriously.
  5. I'm sure it's due to complications of diabetes, but I'm still shocked that Ron was only 70. Just seems like he should have been older.
  6. Such a shame. RIP Ronnie.
  7. Oh no question it's an awkward at best fit. As a Marquette guy, the fan base is concerned about getting the bump, and rightfully so. All they have to hang their hat on is being competitive in the Big East now, and past history. On a side note, scheduling for basketball actually doesn't get more complicated, especially if Nova bumps up in football. If I recall correctly, the current schedule has 12 single matchups and 3 sets of home-home (two of which are dictated by ESPN/CBS choice). So it would just simply make it 14 single matchups and 2 sets of home-home, essentially cutting the fat on the home-homes a bit.
  8. Since money drives all, I'd assume DePaul is safe (for now) as they will be needed when a new TV deal is being negotiated. The Big East can argue that they have three of the four largest media markets potentially in their fold (NYC, Chicago, and Dallas/FW). Even if those teams are not kings of the region, the mere presence helps. If any school gets the boot, it'll be a basketball only school that doesn't add any media market. That leaves Marquette, Providence, and Seton Hall. I think Marquette's competitiveness helps them stay afloat and Providence will stick around because that's where the Big East is centered. I'd personally be all for kicking out Seton Hall which doubles Rutger's NJ market and has not shown a commitment to their athletics for a while now.
  9. Thought I'd post this in here as I felt, as ridiculous as it is, that it was appropriate given the start of the season: Stan Lee's creating a league of 30 superheroes inspired by each team in the NHL... http://www.joblo.com/stan-lee-creating-30-superheroes-for-each-team-in-the-nhl
  10. I'll admit to being a Marquette alum, but I like Buzz a lot. He strikes me as the kind of guy who the players absolutely love and work hard for. He's a bit too candid/brash at times (his mouth has gotten him into some minor trouble during postgames) and very OCD by his own admission, but he channels that into an obsession with numbers and routine. Quirky, but clearly knows his stuff. I'm sure I'm blinded by the homer glasses, but I hope he sticks around for a while. Plus, he can dance. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cDf08OZ57Y
  11. Yeah, if I'm a Mizzou fan, I'd be a lot less confident than I was a few weeks ago. Nebraska seems to be the Big 12 team the Big 10 really wants. YOu're still in a heckuva better position than KU. http://www.kansascity.com/2010/06/05/1995767/four-scenarios-for-the-big-12s.html The writer has a throwaway line wondering if KU would fit in the Big East if all the [expletive] hits the fan. Leaves KU as a geographical oddity, and it hurts their football, but other than travel, it wouldn't be terrible for their basketball. It'll never happen, but thought it was worth bringing up here. Really off the wall.
  12. Actually, there's 81 Byfugliens listed in Minnesota. 65-70 of them are in Roseau. That's a high concentration of Byfuglien.
  13. Thanx for that, too !! Now I'm really curious, 'cause I encountered a truck in a truck stop the other day. It was marked Byfuglien Trucking out of Roseau, MN. Hmmm, I wonder ??? Curious about what? Minnesota is full of Scandinavians. Even being full of Scandinavians, there can't be many Byfugliens in Roseau that aren't related to each other.
  14. I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't know if I like the expansion of the B10 to 16 teams. 12 to 14 would be fine. Being a Big East guy with Marquette, frankly sixteen teams is too many (especially for football). While I certainly wouldn't blame a school for jumping to the B10 for the television money, etc, I think it sets a bad precedent. I can easily see the SEC, Pac-10, and Big XII expanding at the expense of the Big East and ACC. Even that isn't what I'm necessarily concerned about. Schools like Marquette, Georgetown, etc would be just fine. What worries me is the potential for the BCS schools to leave the NCAA entirely to form their own league. I know there's been whispers about it. I'm not so sure these superconferences of football (since that's where the money is coming from) is a good thing. Am I alone in thinking this?
  15. Having went to high school with Brian, I'm pumped for the guy. Sounds like a good program.
  16. In a 10-team league I'm sure there's GOT to be something better available on waivers than Harang and Peralta. You're probably going to want someone else to throw in that Utility spot just in case Berkman isn't ready for opening day, too. Unless you plan on putting Vlad there. Took your advice and dropped both Harang and Peralta for Jason Heyward and Hideki Matsui. Didn't realize Heyward was still available. I couldn't attend my draft, so my autodraft kinda went some places I would have preferred it didn't.
  17. Alright. Where should I be looking to upgrade? 10 teams, head to head. Standard scoring stats (WHIP is included, no OPS, etc). C - Matt Wieters 1B - Adrian Gonzalez 2B - Ian Kinsler 3B - Chone Figgins SS - Hanley Ramirez OF - Nick Markakis OF - Shane Victorino OF - Jason Kubel Util - Lance Berkman Bench - Vlad Guerrero Bench - Jhonny Peralta SP - Johan Santana SP - Yovani Gallardo RP - Jonathon Broxton RP - Brian Wilson P - John Lackey P - AJ Burnett P - Jonathan Sanchez Bench - Brandon Webb Bench - Stephen Strasberg Bench - Aaron Harang Bench - David Aardsma
  18. No kidding. They haven't made a 2 point FG or a FT all game. Has a team ever lead at the half without a single 2 point FG or a FT?
  19. If there's one thing that will make me not look at my bracket for the rest of the tournament, it's this. I'm all for bracket apocalypse now.
  20. Now that I'm resigned to the fact that we lost, at least Marquette had a good season. Picked to finish 12th, they ended up 5th in the East. I'll take that for now, but that still hurts. As for the rest of the tourney (now that my rooting interest is gone), bracket apocalypse. Let all hell break loose.
  21. It shouldn't matter, but doesn't putting Marquette/UW in Pac-10 country and Xavier/Minn in Big Ten country seem a little too helpful for 11 seeds? Try being an underseeded 4 seed Illinois team out west with Air Force, Utah State, and Washington. It's always about Illinois I remember that. That wasn't fun either.

  23. No kidding. Really [expletive] my bracket. Once they get down, they are in trouble. Not a team built to rebound from a 15 pt deficient.
  24. I know I'm a Marquette fan, so I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering what some of those fouls were.
