  1. Be 5-1 if they did. #-o
  2. Looking forward to seeing what Brees can do with Colston, Shockey, and Patten back. Gotta go up against the Panthers D though.
  3. Hah. No kidding. McCoy is a stud. I'm glad with Snead though. We haven't had a QB in 5 years since Eli left.
  4. I've been pulling for them, hoping to see Snead have a nice run. He's much faster than I thought. He reminds me a lot of a young Brett Favre in his evasiveness and stuff. His size is almost identical too.
  5. Ole Miss probably the best 3-4 team in the country. Congratulations you jackasses. Every damn loss this year has been within a touchdown. 4 losses, 19 points total difference.
  6. I couldn't imagine the higher ups putting Soto into a deal.
  7. Kid's a stud. Looking forward to seeing him play again.
  8. OK guys, been working on compiling this one for a while. I've put together a long video of deadball era footage compiled from different sources. Included in this video are clips of the 1904 Giants, game footage from the 1910 World Series of Cubs v. A's, game footage from the 1919 Series of the Black Sox vs. Reds, and the 1909 Series between Pirates and Tigers. There's also numerous other clips of guys playing from the deadball era (1900-1920). It's funny to see how things haven't changed much for the Cubs in 100 years. One of the clips is a A's batter hitting a two run double off a Cubs pitcher, scoring Hall of Famers Home Run Baker and Eddie Collins, who both do a funny hop on the plate. Also get to see A's HOF pitcher Chief Bender striking out a Cubs batter on a called curveball for a strike and then a swinging strike on a low fastball. Cool stuff I think. To find out who was doing what in some of this footage, I consulted the play-by-play records of the games to match up what is occurring in the footage to what happened in the record. Players I've identified in the footage include Frank Chance, Chief Bender, Frank Baker, Eddie Cicotte, Eddie Collins, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Joe Jackson, Buck Weaver, Chick Gandil, Christy Mathewson, John McGraw, and others. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wz8CC-kwtU p.s. music is from Band of Brothers btw
  9. Outstanding read. Cobb's got an entire chapter on baserunning, one on batting, etc. Just neat to see how a person's approach to the game hasn't really changed in 100 years.
  10. Jason Bay OPS's 70 points less than JD Drew vs. LHP. I still think that most managers would have made that move. Let's just agree that Boston sucks a big one. I'm confident if Boston had up Ted Williams' severed head, he would have ripped a double off the green monster. batting right handed
  11. Yep. Greatest game ever devised by the mind of man. The fact that there is no clock is perhaps the most wonderful aspect of the game. Makes comebacks like these possible.
  12. LOL, Shrek woke up. False hope is a bitch though.
  13. so you are the 1 vote?
  14. Bonds, Henderson, Mays, A-Rod, Morgan, Griffey, Beltran. Yep. Those are too. All of whom are in the Hall of Fame or will/should be. Yes, even Beltran. I think he's on a HOF projection. Is Soriano on a HOF projection? He's pretty similar to Dawson(Soriano gets 2B credit, Dawson gets CF credit) I don't know. If he gets close to 3000 hits and 500 HR, I'd certainly think so. He's definitely not close to the fielder that Dawson was though. Dawson was actually damn good at CF, Soriano at 2B...not so much. However, personally I don't think Soriano will put up the career numbers that Dawson did though.
  15. Bonds, Henderson, Mays, A-Rod, Morgan, Griffey, Beltran. Yep. Those are too. All of whom are in the Hall of Fame or will/should be. Yes, even Beltran. I think he's on a HOF projection.
  16. What you talkin bout Willis?
  17. You make valid points as well, but we'll just have to agree to disagree. He's one of the top 5 tool players of all time in my opinion, as his stats clearly show.
  18. I've posted this on this site before, but take a look at Bert Blyleven's stats compared to his peers that are all in the Hall of Fame:
  19. RF? Compared to who? Babe, Aaron, Robinson....it's not fair to hold anyone to those standards. OK, off the top of my head, RF's who are definitely better than Dawson: Ruth, Aaron, Robinson, Ott, Reggie, Clemente, Kaline. So that's what, seven guys who are clearly better than Dawson. Other right fielders that I know of in the Hall include Wahoo Sam Crawford, Waner, Gwynn, and Winfield. I'm probably missing some glaring ones. Nevertheless, there is something like 60+ outfielders in the Hall of Fame and you are saying that someone who is in the top 50 all-time in many major offensive stats, regardless of position, shouldn't be in there? C'mon.
  20. Dawson's pretty borderline. Tram and Raines should have/should fly in. Dawson played in an era of average offense and managed to put up almost 2800 hits, 438 HR, 500+ doubles, almost 1600 RBI, 300+ SB, and was a terrific defensive player winning 8 gold gloves, 4 of which came from playing center field. He also won an MVP award (although not the best that year) and a Rookie of the Year award. Just step back and look at those numbers rounded off: 2800 hits 440 HR 500 Doubles 1600 RBI 300 Stolen Bases 8 Gold Gloves MVP ROY How does that not SCREAM Hall of Fame? The guy was a bona fide 5 tool player for a majority of his career. I realize why some might look down on his candidacy. Perhaps he didn't have a definable "peak" as many writers want. He never won a championship. His OBP isn't very good. His career might have dragged on longer than it should. But c'mon, look at those stats in totality. That's a Hall of Fame resume if I've ever seen one. Dawson is the only person not in the HOF with 2700+ hits and over 400 HR...add on 300 stolen bases as well and he REALLY is in a league of his own. He's 25th all time in total bases, 34th all time in RBI, 36th all time in HR, 45th all time in hits, and 45th all time in doubles.
  21. please let alan trammell on that train. maybe tim raines too. I think Hawk should be on there as well. The guys I'd let in immediately right now are Santo, Blyleven, Dick Allen, Raines, Trammell, Dawson, and Torre
  22. Nine. The Whalers moved. Awesome. I'm a dope.
  23. hell, I'll try TB Lightning NY Rangers Hartford Whalers Edmonton Oilers Co Avalanche Chi Blackhawks Anaheim Ducks Det Red Wings Carolina Hurricanes St. Louis Blues that's all I got so, 10
