  1. For those of you scoring at home, that's 12 total bases and 5 RBIs from guys called up since opening day 2015.
  2. I've really been wondering, where would they hang the WS Championship banner? Maybe from a foul pole? Over above the team flags?
  3. I remember when I used to hit this thread before the Cubs game threads. Like, two years ago.
  4. Really? Shoring up a lefty reliever before the deadline? This team could win 125 games but I'm still worried if Wood is called in for a high leverage situation in the playoffs. That's a silly concern to have (and even if it weren't, all eyes should be on fixing our LOOGY situation? and that's why you don't care about our run differential?) And yes, really. This team could win 125 games and you should be worried because there is an 80% or so chance that we won't win the world series. That's what the playoffs are and how they work. I feel like some kind of lame boring broken record having posted this so many times in my life by now but I guess it still needs to be said. Well, yeah. Of course any concerns about a 23-6 team in May is a silly conversation and we're splitting hairs at this point. By July, I hope this has either settled itself internally or they address it, as I'm sure they would.
  5. Well, yeah. It's why I couldn't give two [expletive] about the run differential. All eyes should be on building for the postseason. The regular season is damned near a foregone conclusion at this point. Also, that thread starter gif might actually be better than today's. Keep it rolling. there is no building for the postseason. Really? Shoring up a lefty reliever before the deadline? This team could win 125 games but I'm still worried if Wood is called in for a high leverage situation in the playoffs.
  6. no, they will always go back to a world series. they already have some theory about how we already knew the cubs were "regular season good" and it remains to be seen if they can become "postseason good" Well, yeah. It's why I couldn't give two fucks about the run differential. All eyes should be on building for the postseason. The regular season is damned near a foregone conclusion at this point. Also, that thread starter gif might actually be better than today's. Keep it rolling.
  7. There were several times I was wishing he was manning 2B instead of Zobrist today. Zobrist is still pretty damn awesome offensively, but it's often pretty glaring how limited he is defensively at times. I was thinking this on a double play missed earlier on the replay. Javy would have turned that.
  8. Yeah, that was pretty amazing. McCarver is one of those guys who people treat with reverence even though they're [expletive] awful. Maybe it's because he carried around Bob Gibson's jock, I don't know. What I do know is that you'll routinely hear him say some of the dumbest [expletive] you've ever heard. Oh, he played with Bob Gibson? I never have heard him mention that.
  9. Yeah, but when Zobrist and Dex finally cool off a bit, he needs to be out of his early season funk or it's really going to look worse.
  10. I seriously thought that must be Ricketts' fat nephew.
  11. Why do the Cubs need another starter? Artieta/Lester/Lackey will definitely be starting postseason games, and if they do need a 4th guy and Hammel looks shaky again after July, I trust Hendricks or even a bullpen game headed by Warren just fine. A lefty out of the pen might be all this team needs.
  12. I am drunk at a bar, but Ross has to be playing way above his career norm right now. I'd rather have him than a healthy Miggy in there right now.
  13. Does it matter? With Bryant and Zobrist both with the ability to play OF and Soler not hitting, you can start them both every day if you wanted to. FWIW, I think Russell still has more offensive upside than Baez and is on par or better as a defender. I know this is splitting hairs, and in the end Russell will probably figure it out and be the better player, but why wouldn't you still give a higher offensive upside to Baez? I also think Javy could be a gold glove caliber infielder.
  14. That's like a 4" vertical. How many millions do they owe him?
  15. Don't laugh, but Tulane is a rumor. I guess if you're talking about tv markets. Also hearing Cincinnati.
  16. Gee, I seem to remember Six Finger, Farnsworth, Remlinger and Sweaty Joe Borowski being pretty solid in '03.
  17. Have you seen the Documentary Now spoof of Grey Gardens? http://images.amcnetworks.com/ifc.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/sandy-passage-episode-now.jpg
  18. Saving them for later Remember how much trouble this team had scoring runs early last season? It will come. That's the scary part. The Cubs may not have peaked yet.
  19. Except that watching the BFIB suffer through their decline into suck is great entertainment. Sort of like laughing at Shia LaBeouf stories.
  20. They are now at #2 in the 5 stages of grief. 1. Denial check 2. Anger 3. Bargaining "Maybe That next new batch of prospects will be here soon." 4. Depression "Jesus, the Cubs are 15 games up." 5. Acceptance "We suck."
  21. I was seriously wondering if someone was going to start a thread like this today. I know he's a slow starter, but he looks lost at the plate. The good news is that he's sucking and we're still awesome.
  22. I'm more concerned about the lack of offense than anything Lackey's done. Who am I kidding? I'm not concerned at all. Every day can't be an oil painting.
