  1. Well, the Cubs have just their third poor game in their last 20. Bound to happen every now and then.
  2. Yes, because his value is at it's highest right now after one 0-4 game, and the Cubs have SS locked up long-term in an injured Nomar and an ineffective Neifi. You know, Ronny isn't the only Cub with a bad game at the plate today (see 3-4 hitters).
  3. ...3 behind the Astros(?), ugh! I like the Mets, and Pedro's, chances tonight against their high ERA rookie. Good call - let's go Pedro! In fact, if you just look at the starters for the Astros/Mets series it's hard to argue against the Mets taking 2 of 3. The Astros are 33-14 at home, best record in the majors. Not that hard to argue. :) Besides, the Mets might pass the Cubs if they win 2 of 3. I'm more concerned in general about both the Mets and Astros than the Nationals.
  4. While I'm sure he's capable of doing it....How does Perez have a lower obp than batting average? Sac flies count against the OBP but not against BA.
  5. The Cubs aren't that bad in the "clutch" overall. Their main problem is not getting runners in scoring position very often, so that the one or two times a game it happens, if they don't score it sticks out more.
  6. if he'd get a chance to play regularly then maybe he'd do better Kid just had a rough day is all. I hope the fan base allows a player to have a bad day without resorting to boos, though.
  7. Overanalyzed. Dusty made a double-switch in the 6th so he could leave Ohman in for the 7th. Ohman proceeded to give up a walk and a HR in the 7th.
  8. Ari 27 LOB, ChC 12 LOB Not quite accurate, because that counts a runner on base with 0 outs that gets left at the end of an inning 3 times. Meaning, if, say Gerut doubled, and then 3 guys after him make outs after him without him scoring, then he counts as 1 LOB for each guy.
  9. The Cubs have only left 7 men on base in 7 innings. The D-backs have left 13 on in 8. And they've even scored 3 runs. The Cubs are fortunate to be down by 3 right now. Their problem is not getting enough guys on base in general, not as much pushing them across.
  10. Mike Remlinger, lefty specialist. Granted, it's not as if he's just faced lefties this inning, so be fair about it. Someone has to pitch the 8th, might as well be Remlinger.
  11. Cub pitching playing with fire all day long. Finally came back to bite them.
  12. And that's 5 walks from the Cub pitchers. Fred, do you have stats on how the Cubs do when they walk more than their opponents? Does that ever happen? :)
  13. Still not a fan of giving away free outs at the top of the order, especially with a runner already in scoring position. At that point, you're hoping for the Cubs to essentially give away 2 free, specific outs, or that the Diamondbacks' C-P combo messes up. I'd rather just have an extra chance for a hit, as a single to the OF scores the run from 2nd anyway.
  14. Gotta be patient there. He wasn't, and swung at balls 2 and 3.
  15. Cubs playing for one. Never like giving away free outs that aren't your pitcher, though. Cedeno, make Dusty look smart.
  16. It's a smart move, he double switched for the last guy to hit. What's the eye roll about? I'm one of the biggest dusty critics here, but who would you like him to have switched out? Maybe Walker for Perez, but really don't have too much of a problem with the switch he made.
  17. That double helps the cause, for certain.
  18. Don't you usually have to own something before you give it away? :) The Cubs aren't exactly stating their case for this game in the first place.
  19. Jeromy Burnitz lines a single to right field, Jody Gerut scores. Cubs 4, Giants 3. Final.
  20. 12-12 in July right now. 3-1 vs. the D-backs would give them a winning month, and restore my faith that this team can make the playoffs.
  21. What does it say about Hollandsworth that a RHP pitches to him with 1 out, then walks a rookie righty intentionally with 2 outs?
  22. 6-8. 3 of 4 from Cincy would make it a .500 month.
  23. Thanks for the insight Joe Morgan. No, His keys would look something more like this: 1. Play Good defense. When you play defense, you win ballgames. Just look at the Reds back when I played. 2. Score runs, You have to score runs. Remember the reds??? We scored alot. 3. You have to have a good Pitc....DID YOU KNOW I PLAYED FOR THE REDS OMG WE WERE SO GREAT HAHA!!!!!! WOW! 4. I was the greatest second baseman in the history of the game. Ryne Sandberg sucks!! Fixed it for you. Nah, usually it's something like: "I don't see why they need any other second basemen in the Hall of Fame, since I'm already in there. If they aren't as good as me, then they don't deserve to be there."
  24. 5-7. Need to go 10-6 to close out the month.
  25. It's a ten run lead. Why over-work Wood when it isn't necessary. The pen hasn't gotten much work due to the break. This is an excellent time to get the pen three innings of work. I could buy that if he put in Novoa or Ohman or Rusch, but the most overworked guy down there, no. Wuertz hadn't pitched in a week. If he's not well rested after that, might as well throw him on the DL. Every arm needs some work each week to stay sharp.
