    This is a bunch of anecdotal crap. If you look at Vazquez's stats that go along with these wild accusations you're throwing around, you'll see that his pitches per inning pitched is pretty much dead average among starters, and his "after 0-2" stats and later pitches/later innings statistics are among the best in the AL. Not really sure how calling a post a "bunch of anecdotal crap" can make it through here but oh well. Look at his stats the last three years. ERA's of 4.91, 4.42, 4.84. ERA+'s of 92, 99, and 96. He has always had a problem of the one bad inning. You're telling me that it's a bunch of anecdotal crap that this latest stretch isn't an aberration? He's a very average pitcher; nothing more and nothing less. You're going to have to do better to convince me otherwise besides saying that my post is a bunch of anecdotal crap.

    They're currently ranked in the upper half of per game attendance in the major leagues. Just thought I'd note that. If you were aware of that before your post, we define the word "pathetic" differently. Attendance figures account for tickets sold, not butts in the seats. My guess is those numbers are quite skewed when a big market team goes in the tank because they're likely selling more tickets in advance. The highlights made it look packed last night. For a team as bad as they are, they have filled the stadium pretty well this year.

    yuck :?: Vazquez is a good pitcher with a below average contract given the market. Too bad we couldn't take him on with the ownership situation, because I'd deal for him and use Marshall as a chip to get a big bat. He's an average pitcher and nothing more than that IMO. I really believe that this last month he's had is very much an aberration. He is not a mentally strong pitcher as there have been many, many times where he is just cruising along up until he faces batters for the 3rd time. He has a lot of pitches and I just feel he gets too cute with them at times. It does seem like in this recent hot stretch that he is finally starting to go after hitters (his K/BB ratio is among the best in the AL). However, that has always been one of his major weaknesses. There have been plenty of times where he gets 0-2 on a hitter before using up pitch after pitch to strike out a batter. Basically, I'm not really interested in him. You can do a whole lot worse than him, but I don't think it's a good sign for the pitchers market when Vazquez is the best pitcher being floated around on the trade block. Williams would be wise to trade him because of that fact. I just hope it's not to us.

    I'd absolutely love either Griffey or Dunn here. That being said, it's too good to be true. I'm not getting my hopes up on this rumor.

    Nice. Hopefully we'll get a report on how fast he was throwing. 91-94 Yep, he topped out at 94 and his slowest pitch was at 89. He only threw one breaking ball tonight which was at 81. Overall, I thought he looked good. It's not really the easiest thing to judge a pitcher when he's just coming off an injury and hardly throwing any breaking balls. We'll definitely be able to gauge him better on the back-to-back days he throws on Thursday and Friday. On another note, Blanco did not look very good at all behind the plate tonight. I think tonight was his first game back behind the plate and he looked extremely slow and sluggish. Peoria scored their first two runs when Blanco was batting, but that should have been a DP to end the inning as the 2B just completely missed the play. He has a long way to go before he is close to ready. I was real impressed with some of the younger guys...Barney looked real good. Canzler had a couple of 2 out RBI's as well. Thanks again to Karen for the tickets. O'Brien Field is a real nice stadium and Peoria looks to have a good team in the 2nd half of the Midwest League.

    If they think Dopirak is an elite prospect, I'd do Dopirak for Dye. :) Sounds good :D I don't know what Williams is exactly thinking here. Dye is a FA after this year anyway. You have to move him now before you end up with absolutely nothing. And based on his potential from last season and his HR totals from this season (on a bum quad), there will definitely be teams that are interested in him. You're not going to get a top of the line prospect for Dye, so he can stop thinking that. How about Neal Cotts :wink:

    Anyway, there's a more important rumor in that very same article. Well if we can't land Griffey or Dunn, Dye or Sosa would be the next best alternative as far as a power bat that we could use in the OF. If we don't have to give up too much, I'd be all for it. I should also add that the elite prospect wouldn't be someone like Pie/Patterson/Murton/Gallagher in a deal that would include Dye.

    What a stupid move that would be for the Nationals. First, he would seriously trade some of his best prospects for a guy who is going to be a Free Agent after the year? Dunn is good and all, but they have way too many other sports to fill besides an outfield spot. And Bowden seriously thinks he is going to be able to re-sign Dunn in the offseason? That would have Soriano Part II written all over it. Once again, it pays to stay sober on the job.

    Yeah, that would make the most sense. If Floyd wants to play another year or two before his body completely breaks down, he's going to have to just accept a bench role. Daytona was shut out in the nightcap, 5-0. Santo struggled as he gave up 4 hits, 5 runs, 5 walks, and struck out 1 in only 2 and 1/3. Koerber and Platt did pitch scoreless ball for the rest of the game. Dope was 1/3 with a double. His average is now up to a hefty .260. Camp and Clevenger had the only other hits.

    Peoria defeats Fort Wayne, 6-1. Pina had a good start: 5 IP, 4 hits, 1 ER, 3 K's/1 BB. Ceda struck out 3 in 2 no-hit innings of relief and Maradeo pitched two scoreless games to finish out the game. Blanco was the DH and was 1/3 with an RBI and a HBP. Canzler was 2/4 with two doubles and an RBI. Darwin Barney was 1/4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.

    Iowa hangs on to win 8-7. Bailey got the win, but he didn't have a real good start: 5 IP, 11 hits, 5 runs, 3 K's/1 BB, and he gave up a homer. Piggy and Howard each gave up a run in 2 and 2/3's. Rapada earned the 4 out save. Felix finished 3/4 with the grand slam and two runs scored. Kroeger added a solo shot. Murton and Soto each finished 1/4. Cedeno was 0/4 and EPatt was 0/3 with a walk and an RBI.
