  1. I love that he's a switch hitter and hits HR's from both sides of the plate.
  2. Might as well trade him if you aren't going to play him. This team isn't good enough offensively to have a weak hitting gloveman at the catcher spot. But hey, this team has been making terrible decisions for years why should they stop now.
  3. Guy's admire their HR's all the time these days. The Padres, particularly the big fat lefty, have to have thicker skin. Pretty obvious that was an intentional near-beanball. With all the comments in the paper the other day and how mouthy young got when Lee was going to first. There is really no question in my mind. It was stupid for Lee to do it, but this has been building since the Braves games. Cubs are continually getting pegged as so far have been completely kept from any sort of payback by the umps. I'm sure they were getting pretty tired of it.
  4. DeRosa has been a pleasant surprise. He's extremely versatile in the field and appears to be a competent patient hitter.
  5. I agree. They should be asking the tough questions.
  6. it's 89 with a heat index of 326 in the Iowa City metropolitan area gotcha all beat with 111 here in phoenix Gorgeous in NY, low 70's, sunny, no humidity. Good thing too, since I had to wear a suit today. Don't take too kindly to 80+ with humidity in a suit. For whatever reason, everytime I have to wear a suit, it's about 90 degrees. In fact, I was supposed to wear one today, but ended up not having too. Every time.
  7. Go back to the minors Barrett. You loser.
  8. Not too many 3B make the play on that ball. which means our 2B playing third had no shot My feeling is DeRosa is better defensively at third than he is at second. I think he's been pretty decent at both. I'm impressed with his ability to play so many positions well.
  9. This is a load of crap and you know it. Barrett has been one of the premier offensive catchers over the last two years. La di freaking da. He's been a good hitter and terrible defender. The vast majority of his career has been abysmal, and hopefully his time on the Cubs is near its end. But heaven forbid we say anything bad about him because we owe him so much for the greatness of the past 2 years. I didn't say anything about owing him anything, nor did I say anything about his past, so I'm not sure why you're bringing that up. I was just pointing out that saying he's given us "very little" in the past is a total load of crap, because it is.

  11. Wait, what? Link? How did I miss this?
  12. That actually looks like a moderate, certainly not easy, schedule: Padres - Best pitching staff in the league, even if we miss Peavy, best record in the NL and has owned us in recent past. (My prediction: 1 of 3) Rangers - Just beat our division leaders 2 of 3, still have a decent offense, Sammy will be inspired, and our strength is pitching, which goes to die in Texas (2 of 3) White Sox - Like you said, throw the records out, I have a bad feeling about this series (1 of 3) Colorado - Certainly not an easy team like you seem to be suggesting but still (2 of 3) Nationals - OK they are pretty bad (2 of 3) Pirates - Certainly not pushovers, and have good pitching (1 of 3..just a gut feeling) the 29-37 NL East Nats are pretty bad, but the 28-38 NL Central Bucs are no pushovers. Sosa inspiration. "bad feeling" about the White Sox. gut feelings. holy negative subjective analysis batman. This is what I thought.
  13. I would like to toke and eat taco salads with weske.
  14. I guess the Bears have offered Brown a contract and he'll decide between them and the Titans by Tuesday.
  15. Looks like we're basically average defensively as a team.
  16. and Derrek Lee hasn't been Derrek Lee. They are winning because of their starters and the Pen has been pretty good recently. and Soriano has been putrid since the beaning. I am still smarting over that 9th inning near homer he had in the first game of this series. Stupid wind.
  17. Lou hates Barrett. He said something to him after Barrett was picked off, and Barrett decided to argue with him. I think he's looking for any reason not to play the guy. That would be unfortunate, considering that Hill can't hit his way out of a paper bag, and Barrett was just starting to heat up, despite his poor fielding. hill has had three hits in the last two days...including a sac bunt that was clutch Got to keep his clutch bunts in the lineup.
