  1. Hardballtimes.com already uses a (1.8*obp+slg)/4 as a better evaluator than AVG, but it retains it in the AVG range that we are used to. As OPS is too crude and 1.8*OBA+SLG is a btter indicator than just OPS; diving by four puts the number in context of AVG to make things easier. Anything below .225 is bad and anything above .300 is really good. And .275 is average. The guys there call it GPA (Gross production average)
  2. I suggest Hendry seriously consider Booby Valentine or Davey Johnson. Both have shown that they will play youngsters and both have familiarity with the newer SABR oriented thinking that we will never see the likes of Macias and Hollandswrht start regularly. That or someone from the Braves organization.
  3. On the one hand, Maddux has given up HR's like Paris Hilton giving away her pootie on her 13th birthday. On the other hand, it is Shea, a pitcher friendly park. What is the over under on maddog's HRs today? 3? BTW, If Dusty starts Ewok in CF again I cannot be held responsible for the subsequent mayhem.
  4. What in the world does BTAIM stand for? Be That As It May, according to Google. Thanks CPatt. You just saved me a severe brain cramp for the rest of the day. If the looming trade deadline wasn't enough...... I did not mean to use obscure acronyms; sorry about that. BTW, The headline I had for the post was swallowed. It said that of all the players we traded for to get Nomar and Murton, only Murton is playng well. That is all
  5. well this year from all the players involved in the 3-way deal last year. Methinks the headline was facetious. BTAIM, I was reading somehwere that Hendry wanted Murton as he was including 3 players from our minors and he wanted at least one top level prospect in return and held out for Murton. So it was not like Hendry did not know how good Murton was. This is the same problem I have with people who talk about Sandberg being a throw in the Bowa trade. If Green is to be believed, the trade would not have happened if Sandberg was'nt in it. Similar situation here. The Nomar trade would not have happened if Murton was not included.
  6. You know thatBaker will trot out the tired ass excuses at the end of the year when we finish at 81-81 and talk about how he did not have his players; and injuries to Wood/Prior/Walker/Nomar and talk about how he has 3 straight non-losing seasons etc etc. But look at the Cards. They have had to battle injuries too and they are running away with the division. I hope the journalists do not let him get away with excuse making this year. When he is unwilling to use the talents that he has on the team, he deserves to get canned. Hollndsworth and Neifi are bench players, man. Why does he not see it?
  7. Gott in Himmel what is wrong with Baker? Neifi? and Hollandsworthless again? Barrett batting 8th again? Burnitz/ARam flipped again? Whay is Barrett playing today after the 11 innings yesterday? What is the HI today 110? Hey Baker: Play Murton and Cedeno ya dope. Ai yi yi No Pujols, Walker or Rolen/Molina/Sanders and STILL the Turdinals will outplay and outhustle us today. Do you think that Hendry will stand for this incompetence any longer?
  8. When does His Majesty the Rt. Hon. present his lineup to the masses. To be held up for instant ridicule and second guessing from the aforementioned mob, of course. :)
  9. ..but we seem to be forgetting Mr. Baker's shenanigans here. What is to say he will not put Neifi back in the top of the lineups again? What is to say he will not start Macias every now and then again? What is to say he will not play Murton more often than Hollandsworthless? What is to say he will not use Remlinger as a LOOGY again? Personally I would use Jerome out of the bullpen and let Rusch become a starter again. To get a reliable LOOGY Hendry needs to get Hill up and option Mitre or Jerome back to AAA. I would rather keep Mitre as he is a sinkerballer. Now assuming Nomar will be back and provide a .330/.400 level player and WoodnPrior stay healthy, the team my be able to overcome Dusty's mismanaging. But if Baker goes back to coddling Neifi and Hollandsworthless, look out below.
  10. 1) Neifi? sucks. If Dusty cannot put in Cedeno to face a leftie who is struggling, when is he gonna play him? And Neifi bats 7th? WHY? 2) If he cannot put in Murton against the same aforementioned struggling leftie and gets His Hollandsworthlessness ABs, Hendry should be on the phone exhorting Dusty to play the young 'uns. Dusty says that sitting Holly for a week is too much! Why? He has been a bench player for the last 4 years and he is used to it, you dumbass. This seems to make the other posts I read about why Dusty keeps playing veterans more corroborative. Neifi and Holly should be BENCH players Dusty. I have not said kaddish to this season yet, but if Dusty keeps trotting out lineups like this; it won't be long. Even in the recent slump , the Cubs were competitive in all the games against the Nats. It was only in ATL they seemed to have given up. The demotions seem to have lit a fire. Let us hope the team wins in spite of it's Peter principle manager. You read that Dusty consults all sorts of statistics before deciding lineups. Can someone find out where he getting the stats that show that either Macias or Neifi should start? The only saving grace is that the suckiness is limited to the bottom of the lineup and Dusty does not have Neifi infecting the top of the lineup.
  11. I don't think Neifi is unlucky. I do not care what BS Dusty is spewing , but neifi has been hiting weak popups recently. I recall hearing Pat say if neifi's early power surge has caused him to think of himself as a power hitter thus changing his approach and that in tuen leading to his proensity to pop up. Santo disagreed, but think Pat hit it on the head. His .265 BABIP is more a reflection of his weak-ass popups more than unluckiness.
