  1. Grissom's body couldn't handle playing 150 games, that would pretty much mean that every single righty anywhere is a tough righty. Sarcasm, dude.
  2. I wouldn't mind a healthy Grissom platooning with Jones in RF and I'm sure many here wouldn't, but like atomic energy and the consequences suffered if in the wrong hands, a player like Marquiss Grissom in the hands of Dusty Baker frightens me more, dude. I could see between starts against lefties in RF and against "extreme righties" in LF, Grissom start 150 games.
  3. Before the season is over, I'm sure the Cubs will hit the $100 Mil mark.
  4. Here's one of the most thorough breakdowns I've seen yet about the payroll that was updated after all the arb. cases. I copied and pasted it from BCB> Pitchers: Wood............$12,000,000 Maddux............9,000,000 Zambrano..........6,500,000 Dempster..........5,000,000 Howry.............4,000,000 Eyre..............3,200,000 Prior.............3,650,000 Rusch.............2,750,000 Williamson......2,300,000 Miller............1,000,000 Ohman...............650,000 Novoa...............330,000 Williams............330,000 Wuertz..............330,000 Total for Pitchers: $48,740,000 Catchers: Barrett...........$4,000,000 Blanco.............1,500,000 Total for Catchers: $5,500,000 Infielders: Ramirez............$10,500,000 Lee..................9,420,000 Perez................2,500,000 Walker...............2,500,000 Hairston.............2,300,000 Cedeno.................330,000 Total for Infielders: $27,050,000 Outfielders: Pierre..............$5,750,000 Jones...............$4,250,000 Mabry...............$1,080,000 Murton.................330,000 Total for Outfielders: $11,410,000 Total team payroll: $96,500,00
  5. If you're only gonna be there for 3 months I think you're better off getting it by the month, which I believe was $12.99 last year.
  6. Well that didn't take long. Jason left camp today to meet with Andrews on Monday because of "discomfort in his throwing shoulder". http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060217cubsbits,1,4150911.story?coll=cs-home-headlines
  7. Uh Oh. . So Latoya's advice was something like this: "it's simple, how to handle the Chicago media, just don't talk to them"
  8. From that Pic I would definitely say Glendon is heavier. I hope I'm wrong, but is that a breast flying around on his left side?
  9. Is "Cubs_apologist" taken as a handle on this here board yet? If not, 90% here should think about acquiring it. And whoever said the Cubs are like the Red Sox and the Yankees and comparing their ticket prices and yada yada yada please stop, you're killing me. The difference between the Cubs and the Red Sox is that, yes the Red Sox ticket prices are high, but the Red Sox will do what it takes to put a World Series roster on the field and to be competive. They aren't afraid to put that money back into the team, unlike our loveable losers. Just don't compare the 2, please and most of all, don't try to justify it. It's futile, everyone here knows that Cubs management is guilty of Felony assault on their fans. EVERYONE knows it, don't try to explain otherwise cuz 1) no one is listening and 2) You'll look foolish doing so.
  10. Man if you don't believe that the Cubs don't do more double talk and lead their fans on more than any other organization I don't know what to tell you. This is just right in line with many other examples of saying one thing and doing something else with this Org. It makes someone like myself who in business and in life, despises being lied to and makes it a habit of in business and in life, to not lie, it's aggravating. It's about ethics here and if you really believe that lying and deceiving someone for your own good or cuz you can or cuz they have the right to and it is OK, then I respectfully disagree.
  11. I love how people take something someone says and twists it for their own objective opinion. AGAIN, where did I say I was peeved about them covering up the knothole. Speaking of knotholes, do you actually read what people are saying? Or just copy and paste parts of a sentence? IT'S NOT ABOUT THE GD KNOTHOLE. i ACTUALLY AGREE THAT SOMEONE SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO WATCH A GAME FOR FREE. GET OVER THAT PART. IT'S ABOUT THE CUBS, AS THEY'VE DONE A MANY TIMES NOW, LYING ABOUT IT AND SUGARCOATING IT IN THE BEGINNING SAYING THAT IT WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED FOR THE FANS AND THEIR WAY OF GIVING BACK!! What exactly happened that that has turned into "someone shouldn't be entitled to watch a game without paying for it"? Are you guys so friggin stubborn that you don't want to believe that they LIED about their original intentions? Do you really believe fiscally brilliant men like McGuire could be so clumsy in his plans? It never was about the fans, but the corporate bottomline. and AGAIN, that's fine. Just don't lie about it. I'm tired of this organization LYING to me. and if anyone here thinks a dime of the overall profit, especially that of the luxury suites, is going to the cubs payroll, all I have to say to you is HAHA. I also think it's funny how they just now make it public of their plans of this remodeling and not before the Cubs convention. and for the record, to hell with the knothole!
  12. That's what you get for listening to Paul Sullivan in the first place
  13. Bitter? As a matter of fact I am. You must be a stockholder for this not to upset you.Sorry sport but I don't like being lied to period. No matter who it is doing the lying.
  14. I think you're missing that it will be ready by opening day 2006.
  15. I respectfully disagree with you there Davis. I think the Cubs knew damn well what they were doing. Everything they said when they proposed this originally was all window dressing. This remodeling was originally to accomodate Cub fans and make it possible for more (regular) Cub fans to see the Cubs. WHat it has turned out is a complete and utter corporate project where the RF seats will be $60 ($60!!), where the knothole which was going to be a tiny gift to the community who couldn't get tickets to garner a peak at the game and add a little more "aura" has turned out to be something people shouldn't be able to view without paying and the restaurant has turned into a "corporate luxury box" which I won't even guess how much it'll cost to rent out. Again, whether or not you agree with the idea that you shouldn't be able to see any part of a game for free, really is not the point. The point is they flat out lied when they proposed this. Also, who in their right mind would actually want to stand at that knothole, where viewing would be incredibly limited and watch a game? They knew EXACTLY what they were doing, which irritates me the most. They lied, bottomline. You can not possibly disagree otherwise. The only possible explanation is "bad idea in first place etc etc" and I'm not buying that either. Tell 'em one thing and give 'em something else. That's the Cubs motto for business.
  16. I think the point about the knothole isn't whether or not you think it's a great idea or that in a civilized society people would kill eachother over a GLANCE at a Cubs game through a hole buried in the RF corner of Wrigley, but why in fact did the Cubs, when proposing this idea, proclaim that it was "to give something back to the community"? Then turn around and say that "the person on the sidewalk who hasn't bought a ticket isn't entitled" to a free look at the game? It's this attitude of total contempt and disconnect from Cubs management towards their fans, that I wish I never was born a Cubs fan. I'm too old to disown this team otherwise I would. Another fine reminder that the Cubs, moreso than any other organization, is a whore for the bottomline and TRULY only cares about the bottomline and not WINNING. Before anyone rails me for saying that the Cubs are a business yada yada, save yourself cuz i'm perfectly aware of that. but unlike many other organizations the Cubs refuse to give anything back to the fans (example season ticket holders) without a price. Just when I was starting to get positive and feel good about the oncoming ST and 2006 season, I have to read this slew of garbage.
  17. Wasn't it just noted that he had the same injury as both Morris and Carpenter? To say he'll never stay healthy really makes no sense. Correct. And it makes zero sense to put him in the bullpen. Folks need to understand each specific injury in context to how it affects performance before lumping them all together and making assumptions on comebacks. Miller is a career starter, and when healthy, a damn good one. What again was Miller last season with the Red Sox? You know, before his arm fell off and had to have surgery again? Let's not forget all the one time starters who have had arm surgery and have thrived in the pen (Dempster top 'O my head).

  19. Wasn't it just noted that he had the same injury as both Morris and Carpenter? To say he'll never stay healthy really makes no sense. You do realize that this is his 2nd surgery in the last 2 1/2 years right? I guess maybe that's why I said he'll never be healthy, as a starter. Oh, that and his delivery is atrocious, unlike Morris's and Carpenter's.
  20. Only like this signing if the Cubs are planning on using him from the bullpen, which I highly doubt since he probably wouldn't have come to the Cubs to pitch out of the BP. That's why I'm not getting too excited about this like everyone else. This guy will never staty healthy logging innings as a starter. Never. He's in the same boat as Wood, for they both have messed up deliveries and Miller's arm nearly fell off again at the end of last season, as a starter.
  21. That's exactly what he said. Dusty said that Wood proved that he can pitch out of the Bullpen and if he HAD to work out of the bullpen, he could. It was a hypothetical, "what if" question. Baker never said Wood will come out of the pen.
  22. Let this thread die a fast death,
  23. The DBacks, before they signed Byrnes, didn't have a CF to speak of (terrero), ready to play everyday. This is an outstanding pick up for the DBacks. With the trade of Glaus, I think the DBacks plan is to play Tracy at 3rd and Jackson at first. They are not going to trade Quentin. Especially with an injury prone Gonazlez in LF who needs a cutoff man to the cutoff man and Green who isn't getting any younger. Quentin is an ideal insurance policy in case either get injured. DBacks would be insane to trade Quentin and especially Jackson.
  24. Because 180 innings of good performance (Williams) is almost certainly better than 80 innings of great performance (Lidge) + 100 innings of replacement-level performance. So then Bob, you're saying if you were the Phillies you would take Williams over Lidge? That is what you're saying right? Just want to make sure I understand you correctly. I suppose it would depend on who Williams or Lidge would be bumping from the rotation and bullpen, respectively. (And I'm not fully up to speed on their pitching situation to make that call at this point.) I will say, however, that a team would have to have a pretty good starting rotation (or absolutely atrocious bullpen) to nullify the IP value that Williams brings to the table. Fair enough (but I still wouldn't rather have Williams over Lidge, ever.). But as far as Williams goes, at this point in time, I still don't know what his role with the Cubs will be in 2006. Let's PRETEND and believe that Wood will be Healthy in 2006. Does Williams work long relief in the pen or will the Cubs go with 3 Lefties in the pen and have Rusch be long relief? BP would be: Williamson Eyre Howry Wuertz Ohman Dempster Williams/Rusch The Cubs have to trade Wellemeyer (out of options)1 way or the other or Williams. Even at 7 in the BP.
