  1. Yeah, I hate it when GM's trade away those all-too-valuable undersized righthanders who throw in the high 80's Maddux?
  2. Why is that? Was that where he fired a fastball through a resting bird and got into trouble with the law? Because now the state of florida has more cubs pitching prospects than the cubs actually do. so, we're sending our players to play in front of old people with hopes that they actually win something before the old people die? ... silver lining, people. silver. lining.

  4. Tell that to Maddux. Beat me to it. Thought it was telling of how complimentary Maddux was on the LA defensive infield and how worry-free he was with them behind him. He's not one to throw parting shots.
  5. What, like stopping the catbox?
  6. Because Jesus loves each and every one of them! But I've got a tee shirt that says Jesus Hate the Yankees ... a Wrigley Field usher yelled at me when I wore it at a Cubs-Giants game.
  7. I'd love to hear Bud complaining about all the MLB merchandising revenues should the Cubs actually win a World Series.
  8. Vance, I think you would provide some comfort to us Bears fans if you'd admit that traveling from LA and being in this cold weather this weekend makes you feel a step slower, unfit to throw deep passes, unsure of your footing and blocking strength, confused by crowd noise (I know that one's a stretch) and generally less confident ... and then if you could just testify that such feelings are undoubtedly shared by anyone visiting from LA this weekend. That'd be great. Was out for lunch today in the Loop and felt the presence of Saints fans. Nothing like being at the Billy Goat on Michigan Ave and hearing some arse screaming "Who Dat? Who Dat? Who Dat?".
  9. GileBros, I think the answer is here. From the Cubs Convention schedule page on 720's website: * Friday night's Sports Central broadcast live on WGN Radio 720. All other sessions taped for possible later broadcast and inclusion on the website. Have to read it in the papers ... or download from the website, whichever comes first.
  10. Have they been playing any convention pieces today? Just got into work and wanted some optimistic background noise ... God knows that's the Cubs Convention. What's the deal?
  11. Agreed. She is Captain Obvious. So, put her, Madden and McCarver in a locked room. Which one is the last to proudly announce they'll need a key to open the door? Don't think too hard. Your head may explode.
  12. Our favorite Cubs club reporter: Having watched Andre Dawson for most of his career and looking at him as my favorite player of all-time, I can't help but pull for him year after year for the HOF balloting. I am an adult now, but felt so small and childlike when I went to an autograph signing with Andre. I have one of his books and he autographed it. I couldn't even speak, I was in awe of a man who did so much for the game, so quietly. He played the game the way it should be played, without self-promoting or pandering, and did he ever play it well. -- Kevin S., Rochester, N.Y. That's one reason why I vote for the Hawk every year. Carrie Muskat is a reporter for MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs. Muskat gets a vote? Seriously? Can I scribble some notes, shape them into terse and limited responses to fans' questions and get a HOF vote, too?
  13. Didn't know you were a Realgm'er, Rammy. Your take on the Posey suspension? Yep, i'm "RyGuy24" over there, just became a RealGM about a month ago... As far as Posey, he's a scumball trashbag, but (I actually might be in the minority here) I think 1 game was about right. I've seen worse flagarants, but it's getting so obvious that all of these blows are intentional I could care less about how many games he's out so long as Big Ben let's him know who the paint belongs to next time he drives on us. 1 game seemed to me the most he would get, essentially. I believe they could have gone 2 games, but he would have appealed, probably, and had it reduced. Posey's flagrant, Riley's whining and Zo's forearm to Big Ben's throat in the 4th will be remembered, I'm sure. I can easily see this rivalry becoming bigger. One more significant incident combined with a possible playoff matchup could land the Bulls on the Christmas Day matchup with the Heat next year.

  15. Very true. But wtf happened to Helton's power last year? He clearly took steroids but somehow gets away with it Let's avoid Salem witch trials, please. As you may have read in my other post, Helton had a scary stomach condition. For awhile, it looked like he was deathly ill and possibly finished as a ballplayer. To say that steroids was the issue proves one's ignorance, as well as one's willingness to jump to an inaccurate conclusion. Pretty sure he was being sarcastic. OT - I'm here in Denver visiting/meeting my girlfriend's family and can't get out of here until Tuesday, which sucks. But I have to say, this city is beautiful. Haven't seen much of downtown besides a couple of bars last night. Some place named Opal is hands-down the most hilarious bar I've been to - and that counts townie southern Indiana bars. It's like a trendy-but-feels-like-a-cocaine-scene bar with a collection of bad characters from a really crappy movie, my favorites last night being the drugged-out asian guy all in white wearing a low hat with a cohort all in black, ski cap to boot, who would disappear whenever the other guy said something to him and mysteriously reappear 5 minutes later. Very weird scene. Not worth the saki. Hope you enjoyed the rant. you from So. Indiana? where? Not the poster you asked, but I'm from New Albany. From Aurora, IL, but went to IU, which also has its fair share of hilarious bars.

  17. He's got a finger up on the competition. Nice. Alfonseca? ... Thanks for nubbin.
  18. Scott Boras will squeeze the seconds out of his window of time to get a deal done that would potentially maximize his client's contract. There will be some last-minute give-and-take between BoSox and Matsuzake, and a deal will get done.
  19. what about completely unforgivable? Or unpossible? Touche, salesman. Touche.
  20. Well, I guess the Cubs will be good in 2007. 2007 Cubs: great team or greatest team of all time? Stephen Colbert would not overpay for mediocrity...and you know he would have brought in Church and JD Drew and traded for Curt Schilling. Depends on whether or not they are fans of Tek Jansen. Regardless, Colbert would go with his gut after determining how "skillsy" each player is. If they ever faltered, then it's obviously attributable to the liberal bias in the media ruining the players' "skillsiness."
  21. So, since Monday morning, how's everyone's work productivity been at the office? On a scale of 1-10 (1 poorest, 10 best) mine's at about -27. The 2006 Winter Meetings: Hurry up and wait. I live for this.
  22. I'm pretty certain he also wrote a piece about Mike Davis' undoing and his refusal to respect the significance of emphasizing in-state recruiting. Every columnist has his/her overly biased opinion rants, but I liked reading the majority of his work.
  23. In what, seeing him in Cubbie blue or playing with his band at the Cubby Bear? ... There is only one right answer to that question.
  24. I thing you are getting off on a tangent No need to be so obtuse, eh? Don't be acute. Solve for "X"?
