  1. I'd agree with Anaheim being the favorite, they have the best prospects both quality and quantity, to either deal prospects to Baltimore or deal major league players to Baltimore and then replace those players with the prospects.
  2. May be Young will pan out and may be he won't, but the Sox traded from a position of strength (or at least depth) to once again upgrade their rotation with a proven SP who is, at worst, a no. 2 in any rotation in the game. I think the Sox done good. This also allows Williams to spin off one of the other SPs to improve his offense. He is? He had a terrible second half in NY and picthed in a launching pad in AZ last year. IMO, its an abberation and he is still a very good pitcher. And now he's going to one of the top homerun parks in the AL, so his numbers are not likely to improve. I will say this for Kenny Williams, he's not afraid to pull the trigger on a deal.
  3. :D too bad he's 44.
  4. From rotoworld: Tigers agreed to terms with RHP Todd Jones, who had been with the Marlins, on a two-year, $11 million contract. That's 2 old guys for a lot of $$
  5. This discussion along with the threads on Juan Pierre has me thinking of one question I'd like to ask. A lot of posters here have this idea of a perfect leadoff hitter, that takes tons of pitches, has a SB% over 85%, and has an OBP of .400, among other qualities, does this player really exist? And how many of them are there? Not criticizing, I learn a great deal from all the different stats you guys post and love the discussions about them. Just curious if the goal of the ideal leadoff hitter is actually obtainable. Thanks.
  6. Patterson for Vidro would be worth the risk I think. Then if Walker is traded for Bradley that would be a big improvement in the OBP of this team. Vidro, when healthy, is a very good hitter and we're obviously not going to play Patterson. EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't know Vidro had opted against surgery and may never play again.
  7. Aren't Rusch and Washburn nearly identical pitchers? Neither is very good. I'd rather put Jerome Williams in the rotation.
  8. Is it possible that Teixeira moves to 3B and Adrian Gonzalez to 1B? If I remember correctly Tex played 3B in the minors and college.
  9. Why are we so interested in trading Walker? Assume for a minute that the Pierre trade is completed. It seems our best bet would be to then sign Brian Giles, keep Walker and Cedeno, instead of Furcal and have an everyday lineup of something like: Pierre, CF Giles, RF Lee, 1B Ramirez, 3B Walker, 2B Murton, LF Barrett, C Cedeno, SS Seems like this lineup is better than spending money for Furcal if we already have Pierre. That doesn't really address this trade other than to say trading Walker for a mediocre reliever seems like a waste.
  10. I just meant I couldn't remember the whole name of the paper. Sorry Bruce Miles!
  11. According to the CBS Sportsline Rumor Mill (via the Arlington Heights paper, whatever that is) the Cubs are ready to offer Furcal 4 years $36 million Friday.
  12. Didn't see the game, but from what I can gather from the box score Ohman came in and retired Dunn and Casey, two leftties. Then walked Keanrs and Valentin, two righties (I think Valentin is a switch hitter anyway). Ohman is a lefty specialist, so the time to bring in a new pitcher was to pitch to Kearns. Just another example of Dusty not knowing how to use the pen IMO.
  13. Do the Orioles have anyone that could upgrade the Cubs? Other than Tejada obviously, I doubt they're trading him and I can't think of anybody else on their team I would want.
  14. As of 8/22, Cabrera was tied for 10th (along with Clemens and Burrell) in the NL with 22 Win Shares. See this Hardball Times link for more. As far as RC per game, he's 4th. Link. Of course, that doesn't take into account park factors, so Helton is No. 3. Thanks. And also thanks for the link there is some good info on that hardballtimes. I've wondered where to find some of the newer stats.
  15. What are the winshares, RC/G, etc. for Miguel Cabrera? Stat wise he seems to be right there with Lee and Pujols, but nobody ever talks about him. Just curious. EDIT: Checked that he's had a pretty bad month of August and his stats have dropped. Bust just out of curiosity if someone has the answer to the question. Thanks!
  16. Personally I thought the whole season was horrible, except for about a week in June (I think it was June anyway).
  17. looks like the rangers started stealing signs in the 6th today.
  18. he probably won't pitch again for 10-12 days, so it shouldn't be a big deal.
  19. How does every mediocre player become Babe Ruth against us? I don't know how it's possible. I've been told that we have one of the best starting rotations in baseball. Speaking of the starting rotation, does anyone know if Ruschs' option is his, the temas' or is it mutual? Thanks in advance for the help. Player option, $2 million
  20. I'm pretty sure he signed a two year deal this past offseason. Isn't it a player option second year? Yep. $2 million player option.
  21. is there even anybody up in the pen? this guy is terrible. nevermind i see weurtz is in now.
  22. Someone in the transactions forum one day said Jarrod Washburn was all smoke and mirrors and I've flet the same is true about Rusch. It appears last year was a fluke because this is the real Glendon Rusch, his numbers this year mirror his career numbers.
  23. These two sites show some effect of the stadium: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor http://games.espn.go.com/cgi/flb/request.dll?STADIUMSTATS&Param0=1&Param1=0&Param2=6 It's hard to say whether the visitors hit better in Arlington due to the park or the fact the Rangers pitching is awful. Some of both I'd say.
