I don't see why we don't keep Adam as a 4th OF rather than lose some prospects for a guy like mench who will just be a bench player in starters clothing.

Fair point but what if that is other teams plans and we are going to have to offer ridiculous packages of players for guys like Kevin Mench.....

Starting today with somekind of resolution to the greenberg debacle. To toss this guy away for nothing seems absurd given the pathetic options we have for the OF. Next on the list has to be resolving the Furcal situation so he can plan for the OF. I have seen so much written about how un-interested we are in giles , that could all change if furcal goes back to Atlanta. I am really worried about getting left out in the cold on the OF situation. How would you guys feel if Giles, damon sign and we are left looking at J Jones, P Wilson and Encarnacion, this has to be avoided!!!!.

I doubt the figures big time. However the founder of this site has just retired and has been replaced by the guy that wrote this story. Again people pay to be members of this site, it is not in his interest to print BS stories. BTW this was not on the message board it was an article on the front page. Not that i'm trying to give this story legs but......

The figures being mentioned seem insane to me and i'm no soriano fan but man is that a sick infield pitty that 3 stiffs will be parading the OF. Apolagies 2 forgot about Matt M !!!

Bit of history on this article. To be a premium customer on this site you have to pay$79.99 if this story is BS alot of people will be pissed. Only reason i'm pointing this out is that the editors changed just a few days ago, if this story isn't true not a great start for the new guy.

I think we have to look at Hendry rather than any individual players. He risked SS with Nomar and it blew up in his face. He left the RF position until there was nothing except JB and he didn't shake the team up quick enough when we started falling. Last season for Hendry was all about being Reactive rather than Proactive along with dustbag that is the main reason we didn't make the playoffs.

Mariotti is isuch a tool, while i agree with some points what an earth is he dribbling on about with Soriano??. He then adds how good giles's OBP would be, check out the OBP and defence on Soriano jay. He then talks about Mench as another Burnitz for your information Mr Controversy putting the ball in play is not mench's problem, keeping it away from fielders is!!!!!

Man its amazing what stats can look like !! If you start Novoa in an inning with no one on base his era is 0.42 in 21.2IP!!!

Is Novoa just another victim of Dustbag?? check this out At Wrigley ( Hitters Park according to the experts) W3 L 1 2.12 ERA in 20 games 17 IP 17 Ks His ERA is also nearly 1.5 lower in the day. Add to this that he only allowed 4 HR in 44 IP as opposed to 4HR in 21IP the year before. Not saying the guy is Eric Gange in the making just think he has solid potential.

US i'm with you on Navoa. So many people are saying what a crapshoot the bullpen is why not give this guy a chance?. He did indeed show flashes of brilliance and he definetely has a live arm. I think you also have to factor in his experience = virtually nothing at the mlb level . give him a chance to make some adjustments this year and then criticise.

I don't see the need for furcal now, put Cedeno at short let Atlanta overpay for Furcal and look to 'help them out' by getting M giles as our Number 2 hitter?

CardsFan, i think Furcal has been playing the cubs and from what i've seen he will go back to Atlanta. However if Hendry is intent on getting both he will have much better leverage with a leadoff hitter already on board IMO.

Well my idea of trading for castillo lasted long!!!! IF this goes down quickly this is all about sending a message to Furcal's agent as much as it is filling a glaring need.

I've just posted on another thread expanding on the idea of a trade for castillo. This is an idea i ripped from goony who stated on another thread that a marginal upgrade on the IF ie the huge price we would pay for Furcal is not worth more than trying to vastly improve our pathetic OF situation. I think this deserves a thread to itself as i would like one of our resident numbers guys to look at what we could get with Castillo at lead off compared to Furcal. How much money could this move save us?. What do people feel about castillo leading off with Murton hitting 2nd?. What about the idea of either Hairston and CPatt platooning? or adding Lofton?. Obviously this frees up cash for the pursuit of a bat. So the big Question is would louis Castillo for Walker and a couple of arms be a far more efeective move than Furcal and Pierre?.

I would love the defence of Castillo at 2B with Cedeno at Short. We then have some cash left over to sort out the mess in the OF. We could throw the Kitchen sink at Philly for Abreu, platoon CPatt and Hairston in CF and Murton in LF. I am coming round to Goony's idea that a marginal upgrade at SS would be far less beneficial than a total upgrade in the OF and plug the holes on the IF.

OK i admit i've had a good day , and i actually like the Howry signing and i would be pretty happy with Mabury as a bench player but i have to say this. I think something really big is going to happen in the next few weeks. Not just a trade for a mench or the signing of Jaque Jones i honestly think JH is going to do something to make us fall of our chairs. I could see it being paying all the money in the bank to Furcal or a HUGE trade for a corner OF. I have criticised JH as much as the next guy i just think this year he really wants to win......

I don't think people should be too convinced that payroll is stuck at $100. If Hendry feels that he can improve the ballclub vastly beyond next year by spending extra $$ i expect him to do so. Although we will have a hike in Lee's salary with a poss new contract we also lose Maddux and Woods money in '07.

you also have to figure we will move both walker and patterson in trades so that is around $5 mill to play with.

Judging by what the fish took off the Mets for Delgardo we should be able to get Floyd for a bag of nuts and a couple of Macias's!!!!
