  1. Crede is more then just good. He's one of the best 3rd basemen in the league. Uribe and Iguchi are more then just okay up the middle. They are one of the best up the middle combos in the league. Roward is a very good CF and Dye is Good at right. AJ is a above average catcher and PK at first has vastly improved his D the last couple of years.
  2. How did they downgrade their offense by switching from Cedeno to Izturis at short? That one move alone does not downgrade their offense-it actually upgrades it. Walker leaves the lineup too. True, but he was not needed for the next 2 months anyway. If we want to sign him for 2007, we can do it just as well from another team. If we don't, then the offense will be no worse off in 2007 then it would be if we let him walk after the season. It doesn't matter if our offense gets worse in the final two months of the season right now. Let's not forget we haven't had a healthy Lee just about the whole year.
  3. Tell that to the White Sox who won a WS on Pitching and Defense. Their team BA was .262 with a .322 OBP and yet they managed to win a WS. they hit a crapload of homers. True..but they had 200 HR to our 194. They had a .262 AVG with a .322 OPB while we had a .270 AVG with a .324 OBP. So what was the difference between the two teams offensively? The difference must be in the clutch hitting because defense means very, very, very little. Yeah, that or exceptional pitching. I'll go with the pitching myself. You don't think that the defense had anything to do with that? I don't think it had much to do with it, no. How's our good defense working out with our pitching this year? Can you imagine our pitching without a decent defense? Yikes!
  4. How did they downgrade their offense by switching from Cedeno to Izturis at short? That one move alone does not downgrade their offense-it actually upgrades it. I'm with you. I really think I'm in the twilight zone today on this board. I can't believe the outrage that Izzy is getting on this board. Now people are saying that Defense matters very little in baseball? Huh?
  5. Hmmm...Could it be the defense? Maybe?

The difference must be in the clutch hitting because defense means very, very, very little. Honestly, that's the first time I've heard that Defense means very little in baseball. In fact it's crazy. You can go back to the 2004 Red Sox when they upgraded their defense they went on to a WS title. Defense is hugely important! I can't believe you really believe that? yeah, because that red sox team was TERRIBLE until they got doug m and cabrera. I didn't say terrible, but why would the Red Sox upgrade their defense if you people don't think it's important...

It was a whole lot more than their defense. If you don't believe me Then why did they trade to upgrade their defense if defense doesn't matter much?
  8. Pitching and defense. They go hand in hand. In order to have good pitching you have to have a good defense behind them. How many runs did Crede save with his glove at 3rd in the playoffs?

  10. Tell that to the White Sox who won a WS on Pitching and Defense. Their team BA was .262 with a .322 OBP and yet they managed to win a WS. they hit a crapload of homers. But their strength was Pitching and Defense. They won that WS on those two things. They scored just enough to win games, but no means where they a good offense.

  12. Is Izzy starting today? I hope so! I'll be at the game today sweating my arse off!
  13. We all knew Maddux would not net an impact player. Trading him for something redundant is stupid especially when that redundancy will cost around $5 next year and the GM is glowing at the thought of having him for a few years". A 26 year old gold glove that hasn't hit his ceiling is not redundancy. Neifi isn't getting any younger, and right now the only strength of this club is decent defense and a good bullpen. With this deal the Defense is better. So what's the harm in that? With Iz at short and Cedeno at 2nd you have a rock solid Defense that has mad range! If you add bat for LF and at least 1 more starter you might have something. Let's stop the Neifi = Iz comparasions...Neifi has lost at least two steps at SS.
  14. Well that all depends who you add in the offseason.
  15. Our defense wasn't bad. Our offense sucks. Hendry tried to improve the wrong thing once again. True, but sometimes you have to make the moves when you can get them. He got a chance to improve the defense (and a smaller improvement on offense) now. That leaves the offseason to improve the offense-we weren't going to get a shortstop anyway, so we can still improve the team on offense in the positions we were already going to. The defensive upgrade is not significant enough to make up for the fact that our offense lost Todd Walker and gained Cesar Izturis. We'll address the need for offense in the offseason. I didn't see anyone offering us anything to address our need for offense for Maddux. What kind of impact offense player do you think Maddux could bring us?
  16. "Defense means very, very, very little in baseball. Pitching and hitting. That's what wins, in that order." C'mon! Without good defense you aren't going to have good pitching. For a pitcher to be good he needs a good defense behind him. What wins in baseball is Pitching, Hitting and Defense. You have to have all three.
  17. It's a very big leap. How many plays did Cedeno botch up this year? He's got 16 errors in 98 games this year. Izturis is superior to Cedeno at SS. I think Cedeno will fit well at the 2b position. Again lets just let the season play out... Then why not just let Neifi be the starting SS? Where's the need for Izturis when Neifi is under contract for 2007? Again, Izturis upside is greater then Neifi Perez with better range. It's worth the gamble.

  19. I can't believe all this hatred towards Izturis? I don't get it. We just improved our defense a ton and sure his offense isn't the best, but he's 26 years old. He still is improving. Let him play a game in a Cubs uniform before we start to boo him. I remember all the negative posts when we got Barrett. Now he's one of the best offensive catchers in the game.
  20. Yes, silly indeed. Thanks for cutting and pasting my posts. I think I know what I posted, so no need to do it for me. Okay? If you're going to use anectdotal evidence to try and prove a point, you have to assume some will be used in opposition. Which I agree with you, but what point was he trying to make by taking cutting and pasting my posts? You brought it up, you argued the point, then you called it stupid and said it was the last thing you wanted to do. Yes, because I realized how stupid it was to argue about it. The only point I made was the people I knew who where down on Reyes last year now love him.

  23. Um, you're nuts. Mets fans have loved Reyes for a long time. But the only reason people think he is that good is because the other 7 spots in the lineup are great. Umm...I have relatives that a major Mets fans and trust me last year he was not loved! Um, I live and work around thousands of Mets fans and trust me, last year he was loved. Um, Okay...Whatever you say...Last thing I want to do today is argue over the love Mets show or don't show for Reyes. How stupid is that?

  25. All this talk reminds me of what Mets fans thought about Jose Reyes until this year...
