    It's going to amount to nothing.

    9-3 now. Not yet excited because their SOS is still putrid, but if they get even 5 wins in the Big East, they would be 14-16, which is double their win total from last year. Pretty good progress and 7 of their top 9 guys are freshmen & sophomores and they lost 2 frontcourt guys for the season and lost two incoming freshmen due to grades/transfer before the season. Anything less than an NIT berth next season will likely be a disappointment. They'll never be great, but Purnell should have them back to respectability soon. At least they are watchable now.

    A little bit too much information. But yeah, I lived right by the Black Duck for about 10 years. Wow. My sister lived around the corner from you for a couple years. Ugh, this is terrifying; I live right down the street from there. She doesn't live anywhere near there now. Hasn't for probably 5-6 years. I moved out of there about 7-8 years ago.

It's a great area and I miss it. I was there recently and noticed Sam's Wine and Spirits is now a Binny's? That was such a bummer to see.

    Because the runs he actually produces are real, while the theoretical ones he costs us are not nearly as quantifiable in real life. Right! He plays 1B, who gives a [expletive]!

    How do you mean flex their muscles? I think it would be easy to make some knee jerk moves that will really improve the Cubs chances this year. I would rather lay a foundation that improves the Cubs chances every year. Since the playoffs are a crap shot at times, I would prefer that the Cubs make the playoffs as often as possible. I am not against getting Fielder or Darvish or anyone that has talent, but I would be very wary of giving multiple contracts this off season that will turn into big gambles over several years because their appears to be a chance at a chance this year. If the downside of Fielder and Darvish come true, we could easily be in worse shape in 3 yrs than we are now. Define foundation? Isn't signing Fielder and/or Darvish laying a foundation?
