    I’ve seen this movie before. Cubs offense clobbers good starter, but doesn’t burst through and take advantage of scoring opportunities enough. Bullpen comes in and shuts the door for 5 straight innings.

    Annoying, but in fairness if Detroit doesn’t mess up the relay, they have a pretty good shot at Busch at the plate and that throw goes home.

    The “somehow” is because the NL Central is complete crap. I’m fairly confident the Cubs will leapfrog the Cardinals. Giants too. Their schedule is tough. Mets just lost 2/3 to the As and have a fairly difficult schedule. Unfortunately the mediocre Braves will be tough to pass. They have a pretty light schedule, like us.

    Considering the start, that’s a huge win. .719 ops with a 94 wRC+ since 7/1. I imagine he’ll BABIP higher than .241 as well moving forward. .890 ops/138 wRC+ since 8/1. VERY happy with his progress.

    There’s some question if he can handle third defensively. The trade for Paredes signaled to me that Jed may have decided that answer is no.

    Nice job keeping them off the board, but those walks still hurt. Have to go 1-2-3 or Vlad will come up with a chance to at least tie the game.

    Miller already pitched. I’m guessing Lopez gets the 9th if they still have the lead? And who the horsefeathers is going to pitch tomorrow? Gonna need length from Shota.

    Really don’t like that safety-ish squeeze call with Happ at the plate. Just let him swing. Bad play by PCA hesitating getting back to the base, though. Almost looked like he was trying to bait a throw back.

    Just saw that on X. Both times I looked at ESPN, I just saw rain delay and hadn’t realized there were 2 separate ones. What a shitshow. Very 2024 Cubs luck.

    He’s looking even better than I was hoping he would at this point over the last ~6 weeks. Even his outs lately are 100mph+ rockets. I’m quite impressed.
