  1. Who the heck is Reed Johnson? Another average player who is going to keep some young player from moving up in the system.
  2. Josh Hamilton has had a very good spring for the Reds. He has all the tools. One of the announcers said that when Hamilton first came up. he was compared to Mickey Mantle. And he is showing some of the same abilities this spring.
  3. I had never heard of Walters State until a friend that I go the church with has a son (freshman) that plays the outfield for them and has already got some type of agreement with the Atlanta Braves. His name is Adam Milligan. As many of their players have done the same with major league clubs, Walters State (Morristown, TN- east TN) has won the national championship several years and they have a powerhouse team this year, too. Should be interesting to see how they do against the Smokies. Adam lives in Savannah, Tn (west TN) which is 7 miles from Bufford Pussers (Walking Tall) hometown of Adamsville, TN and 18 miles from Selmer, TN where the famous Mary Winkler trial which will start April 9, and will be seen in its entirety on Court TV. Twenty-six major networks and TV stations will invade this small town of Selmer for the extent of the trial. Selmer is about 40 miles from Jacksn, TN , the home of the Daimond Jaxx. Just to put things in perspective.
  4. It still has not sunk in that when I go to the Diamond Jaxx games this year that I will not be seeing the players that I know so well. Listening to the spring training games I realize that it will only be a matter of time before these players become major league players. To follow these players thru the minor leagues creates a bond that I will always cherish. Even thought this is Cardinal territory, the first thing I do is look at the Cubs box score to see what my 'friends' are doing. I realize now that the only way that one can truely be a fan is to know the players as they progress thru the minor league system. I have been fortunate enough to do that with the Cubs. I definitely will be looking forward to seeing the Smokies when they come into town. On the positive side, I will get to learn a whole group of new players from the Seattle Mariners organization and still get to listen to one of the best radio broadcasters in the business in Ron Potesta.
  5. Is anyone else a subscriber to "At The Yard" magizine? This is one of the best if not the only minor league magazine avaliable. Or maybe I should say "was" since it has been temporarily suspended. They promise to resume but I wonder is they will. I signed up for three years and got less than a year for my money. It was only $12 dollars a year and I did get a cap out of it. I only wish they would resume publication. Does anyone else know anything about this?
  6. Jaxrxadio, where will you be posting this year with the Seattle organization? I assume you will visit this site from time to time.
  7. Jackson is already in Tennessee  Okay, let me put this where you can understand it. Jackson (West TN Djaxx) moves to TN, (Tennessee Smokies). TN (Tennessee Smokies) moves to, let's say, Jackson (West TN Djaxx). I just thought that people would understand what I was talking about without having to spell out every little detail. Sorry.
  8. Let me get this straight. Jackson moves to TN, TN moves to, let's say, Jackson, Mobile moves to San Antonio, and San Antonio moves to Moble. Are those the only double A teams in the entire US that are looking for a home? Jackson moving to TN is the only thing we know for sure at this point. The other three teams will play musical chairs. Is that the way you see it?
  9. It's 9:00 and still nothing. I give up.
  10. I understand that Mark Prior is going to rehab at West TN this Thurs. night against Birmingham.
  11. After viewing "soxtalk", I think NSBB is much more viewer friendly.
  12. Personally, I would have like to have seen what Ryan Theriot could do. The Cubs called him up and he sat on the bench the whole time. Just like Ricky Nolasco, the Cubs never even gave him a cup of coffee even though he was the Southern League pitcher of the year. This is how our young players get away from us. Never get a chance.
  13. What I really meant to say is....If the Cubs and Marlins actually switched teams, which would you rather have? Whereas Florida would make wholesale changes as the players got better, I assume that Chicago would not.
  14. Call me crazy, but remember, you heard it here first! There is one other player that will be in the outfield for the Cubs if he is not traded ....... Luis Montanez!!
  15. Considering age and potential, which team had you rather support?
  16. Ron does sound as if he feels bad tonight.

    Oops

I have a hard time listening to Mike Shannon of the Cardinals but I have an ever harder time listening to Ron Santo. I try to listen to the Cub announcers but I wll always end up listen to the other teams announcers.
  18. The problem with this post was calling someone dumb or stupid in the first place. I always remember the mirror principle, those who call someone dumb need to look in the mirror, then they will see who the really dumb one is. Disagreeing with someone is OK, but calling someone names is a personal attack and that is not acceptable any time or any place. We see too much of that in politics. Let us try to stay away from that on this forum. I think the posters understand this and that it was just a poor choice of words, nothing else. Enough said. Continue on.
  19. Come on down. Everyone is welcome!
  20. A real sleeper on this Iowa team who never gets much publicity is 3b Casey McGehee (pronounced McGee). His stint with the Djaxx showed me a player who is very solid defensively and a clutch hitter offensively, has a good eye, and is very intelligent.
  21. I do not know how many viewers ever listen to other radio broadcasters other than your favorite team but I can tell you that there are not that many really good ones out there. Many of these positions are occupied by ex-ballplayers who know nothing about the art of being the eyes and ears of the listeners. Many minor league broadcasters who have spent their lives perfecting their skill behind the mike never get the chance to perform at the level that they deserve. That is the reason that I am salivating to listen to the Djaxx baseball games this year because they have a good one. I am sure other teams do, too, and we should give them the recognition that they deserve.
  22. ESPN just mentioned that maybe someone could sue Bonds for fraud. Do we really want to go there?
  23. ESPN was talking about maybe someone should sue Bonds for fraud. Do we really want to go there?
  24. Man wearing Harry Caray glasses robs bank Looks like Ron is in trouble! :-k
  25. I always thought that steroids made you stronger but caused your body to break down quicker. I do not know if Bonds ailments were a result of steroids. But I also do not know that they weren't.
