  1. ESPN radio also notes - Cliff Floyd out of lineup; Snoppish - sp. Red Sox catching prospect out of AAA lineup.
  2. National ESPN radio says - not trade related. No reason given...
  3. Oh well. We can't keep hoping to win with <3 runs a game. Off to see Corey and the I Cubs...
  4. That was a nice (if depressing) recap.
  5. The Cubs are going to need another cat, their old one is running out of lives...
  6. So one of Manny's main complaints was too much media coverage in BOSTON...
  7. "MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, will provide fans around the globe with a live video webcast of the 2005 National Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony from Cooperstown, N.Y., on Sunday, July 31 at 1:30 p.m. ET. The ceremony also will be carried live on ESPN Classic, with a live radio broadcast on ESPN Radio. An audio webcast also will be available on MLB.com and at the Hall Of Fame's website, baseballhalloffame.org. MLB.com will provide the only live online video coverage as Boston's Wade Boggs and Chicago Cubs' Ryne Sandberg are introduced as the newest inductees into the Hall. Live coverage will continue on MLB.com with the post-induction press conference."
  8. Do the Cubs have something against letting a starting pitcher get a win? Last 4 wins went a reliever...
  9. From BP (and the rumor above)... "Friend of BP Bruce Miles has a couple interesting notes in his latest column at the Arlington Daily Herald." Yet another reason to like Bruce Miles!
  10. From ESPN chat... Victor (Chicago): Jerry, could you please answer this Cub ?Are the Chicago Cubs about to get Alfonso Soriano and are they inquiring about bullpen help? Jerry Crasnick: (12:17 PM ET ) Victor, Jim Hendry isn't afraid to make big deadline moves, as he showed last year with Nomar. But the Rangers are asking for so much for Soriano, I don't see the Cubs paying the price. Hendry's not going to give up Felix Pie, Rich Hill and a cast of thousands to acquire a guy who'll make $10 million plus next year, then be eligible for free agency.
  11. I think that is a pretty weak argument. I, admittedly, do not see him play quite so often as you. But from what I have seen, he does a pretty good job of getting to balls in the outfield. And, like rocket said when discussing dunn and his defense. Who really cares. How many balls go to left field every game, really think about it. I'd say between 5 and 6 on a regular day. Its not a huge risk like it would be if he was playing somewhere that gets a bunch of oppratunities, like a SS. And moreover, if he can give me 92 RBI's by July 29 every year. Then hell, he can sit down in left field for all i care. From Davenport Translation stats, anyone with better/different bad fielding stats feel free to add them... Manny Runs Allowed in LF '03, '04, '05 (to date) = -8, -11, -6 Dunn -6, -17, -6 Hollandsworth in '05 = -3 Soriano at 2nd base '03, '04, '05 = -4, -10, -19 Walker = -21, -5, -3 (he played fewer games in '04) On the offessive side of these equations, both Manny and Dunn more than make up their differences. Hollandsworth - no comment, just threw it in for fun. Soriano this year is losing to Walker at 2nd in fielding and pacing him with the bat. Soriano has not played the OF in the majors by my looking. For those lost runs
  12. Possibly that we watch them more...or that I've seen Walker alone do it at least 3 times in the last 3 games. I'd think you should be able to get them in over 60% of the time...I'd say we do it less than 50%...just a guess. For the year, league averages: With a runner at 3rd, 0 outs, teams score at least 1 run 83.8% of the time 3rd w/ 1 out , teams score at least 1 run 66.5% of the time
  13. 112 pitches for the DBacks, Williams had 120 on his own!
  14. Here's hoping: 1) Prior is economical w/pitches tomorrow 2) Cubs can find their bats with men on 3rd (or 1st, or with the bases empty) 3) Nomar finds his stroke - soon! 4) MLB.TV dosen't make me listen to Thom and Gracie tomorrow
  15. Worst thing about this game (other than it's apparent fall into the L column) - our taxed bullpen is getting eaten up by pitches... Ohman 23, Rusch 17, Remlinger 17, Wuertz 24+.
  16. ...3 behind the Astros(?), ugh! I like the Mets, and Pedro's, chances tonight against their high ERA rookie. Good call - let's go Pedro!
  17. Valverde channeling Big Z with the finger to the sky...maybe now I know why other teams get worked up by him...
