  1. 3 (called strike, called strike, fly to right) Does anybody know Neifi's average P/PA this year ? It's very low, like one of the worst in the league(of people with X amount of PAs). I think 5th worst, it was in some article that someone referenced #224 of 229 in the MLB w/100+ PA @ 3.26 pitches/PA
  2. Phillies are dropping 8 runs on the Marlins in the 9th after being dominated all game to take an 8-2 lead (and cost Dontrelle a win). Now, we are not the Marlins, but... Make it 10. Crushing loss for Florida. 3 errors by the Marlins in that inning. 4 total: 2 fielding, 2 throwing...

  4. Thanks for the link! (At least some Cubs affiliate is playing meaningful baseball today.)
  5. For a more enjoyable time... The White Sox are getting no hit by Santana through 4, and are losing 4-0 with the bases loaded and 2 outs and El Duque out...
  6. Dusty really dislikes Maddux... Macias Perez Lee Garciaparra Burnitz Murton Patterson Blanco Maddux
  7. Didn't see this elsewhere, but another interesting MVP article on BP: (Premium Content) If you use value to your team as the gold standard and look at Wins Above a Replacement player (the math is included in the link)... Lee contributes 20.0% of his team's offensive value. Pujols contributes 11.8% of his team's offensive value. Jones contributes 13.6% of his team's offensive value.
  8. He's like Sullivan and trolls. If you don't make any comment about them they will go away. They have no talent and write absurd articles so we can talk about them thus keeping their job. Once we stop putting up their articles they will go away. My bad.
  9. Dusty didn't realize Lee was batting behind Walker. Isn't Walker a #7 hitter?
  10. What happened? Slow chopper to Neifi. Nomar kinda cut him off, no throw to first. Player broke off second on contact and was now hung up off third toward home. Neifi to Barrett, who this time actually ran the runner back to third... then threw a bad high ball to Nomar who could sweep a tag on the slide back to the bag.
  11. That's twice that Barrett has ruined the same play!! How often do you get a Mulligan?
  12. If Macias hadn't already batted in a crucial situation, I would have said that Baker had been possessed by another manager... ...Reds TV just said Griffey was available off the bench. That's news to me...
  13. That was close, but out...on a chopper to the 3rd base side of the mound. Pitcher jumped on it and the catcher blocked the plate.
  14. Around the league- Cleveland comes back with 5 in the 7 & 8 to beat Oakland. In Stl, Carpenter left with 3ER and runners on and leading 4-3, Pirates tack on ER 4 and stop another win. Pirates still batting in the 7th.
  15. If there were a way to hit into a DP with 2 outs, Jose would do it...
  16. O.K., I'll admit I'm a fanatic about pitch counts... but for 24 year olds who are the ace of your team - please don't abuse the pitch counts. We're at 106 through 5. No more, the season is done. I want an ace for years to come. With the control he's got today (and yes I do love the 9 K's), he's likely to get to 120+ to get through the 6th. Not worth it for the win or the 10 K's...
  17. Original Scoop Jackson Article Thread Interesting angle... From BP's Chris Kahrl: [On Dusty's need to go.] Now the Trib isn't the brightest company to begin with, but you have to wonder where PR will rear its ugly head.
  18. More wisdom from BP... "Now that the Cubs' chances for reaching the postseason have been fluctuating around one percent for the past three weeks, Dusty Baker has been finding at-bats for Matt Murton, who's hit .342/.424/.521 in 87 plate appearances. Other Cub left fielders have hit .249/.294/.386 on the year, but even allowing for some regression on Murton's part, it's clear Baker's failure to give him a shot earlier cost the team more than a few games in the standings. Not that his usage of Jose Macias, Neifi Perez, Corey Patterson, et al didn't already nail the coffin lid shut."
  19. 30 points of OBP are not nothing. (And would you say the same thing about a hitter batting .300 vs .330?) As a team, adding 30 points of OBP makes the Cubs (.327) the Red Sox (.358).
  20. And we have a new VORP leader - the 20 point lead has finally evaporated.
  21. The 30+ pitches in inning 1 certainly add to the stress. I don't care how he feels (though I'm happy it's good!).
  22. Why bring Prior back out after 106 pitches through 6? He's your hopeful young ace who's been taxed early, you've got extras in the bullpen, you've got an even bigger lead, he's got a "leg thing", and nothing real to gain...
