  1. From BP's Kevin Goldstein:
  2. From BP's John Perrotto: Not sure where the info is coming from.
  3. As mentioned scope doesn't say much, as things as big as an ACL repair are done with a scope, as are a host of more minor procedures. Do we know what was done?
  4. OK - looks like BP worked out the early kinks (and RS/RA issues), but it still looks bleak. NL Central St. Louis Cardinals 86 - 76 ; 745/702 Cincinnati Reds 81 - 81 ; 726 /730 Chicago Cubs 77 - 85 ; 725/768 Milwaukee Brewers 77 - 85 ; 766/805 Houston Astros 74 - 88 ; 714/779 Pittsburgh Pirates 68 - 94 ; 704/813
  5. Perhaps this is all statistical anomaly - or at least perhaps the data are not clean enough for the team usage:
  6. Each year BP uses their PECOTA projections for players and combines them with more subjective estimates of playing time to predict RS/RA and team records. This year looks ugly as projected: NL Central St Louis 89-33 Cincinnati 82-80 Chicago 77-85 Milwaukee 75-87 Pittsburgh 70-92 Cubs RS = 754 Cubs RA = 873
  7. From Keith Law's chat 1/14: Mr. SKIA (Mr. Sports Know-It-All) Not to turn this into the Jay Jackson hour, but what does he project as? #2? Klaw (1:53 PM) 2 or 3. Or an ace reliever. Steve (Chicago) A. Escobar Or S. Castro Klaw(1:55 PM) Castro. Brian (Madison) Not liking Escobar's bat? Klaw(1:57 PM) He doesn't walk and isn't going to hit for power. Castro's bat is special.
  8. I know I've posted this running watch in a variety of places, but I just find the numbers so appalling that I can't not write this to express my outrage: In a mere 153 plate appearances, Miles has been able to amass 12.3 runs fewer than what would be expected from a AAA player. That total negative batting value now ranks Miles as the 4th worst hitter to have ever seen a pitch in the big leagues this year and places him at the 932nd best hitter in baseball this year.
  9. I really think that 'hitting with RISP' is going to be the mantra. It will be used to cover the hideous flaws of a number of hitters that we'll be forced to acquire.
  10. Aaron Miles has put up the 7th worst cumulative numbers in all of baseball this year (-11.0 runs VORP), making him the 916 most valuable offensive player to ever get a plate appearance in the major leagues this year. [interestingly, Ronny Cedeno is actually THE worst this year at -15.2 VORP].
  11. He's just being showcased for the waiver deal.... right? .... please!?!
  12. Our playoff odds have fallen from 47% to 22% since July 31st.
  13. HR Gregg vs. Phillies heart = not good.
  14. Is there really a side that Miles hits better from?
  15. I'm calling a disheartening no out DP this inning.
  16. Fukudome, Theriot, Bradley vs. Lidge ... maybe?
  17. Remember when Soriano was a HR threat?
  18. So will Grabow put this game more out of reach?
  19. Does Marmol looks like he's noticeably slowed down his pitching pace?
  20. The Rockies and Cards are losing, the Giants play LA and the Cubs look like they're just waiting to lose this one.... let's hold 'em and score!
  21. 6 singles, a double, 4 walks and 2 runs... yep that's Cubs baseball.
