  1. http://gary-parrish.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6271764/24016263 Very good news for Memphis. Well, unless the NCAA comes back after the season and rules him ineligible and then takes away all our wins.
  2. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/aug/04/tigers-recruit-will-barton-may-be-ineligible/ Huge blow for a Memphis team that was going to be pretty good next season. Barton was the one who got the ball rolling with major recruits signing with Memphis. Still a good class but no longer top 5. Cal would've never let this happen. haha
  3. Per Rotoworld, police just took his ex-wife into custody. Neighbors said a large fire was going in her backyard shortly after he went missing. Unusual because it was around 100 degrees that night.
  4. I think he definitely knew the killers. It's all very strange. His ex-wife says he left her house at 2:00 in the morning Monday the 19th with someone she didn't recognize. Not long later a call comes in to 911 and the operator hears "oh [expletive]" followed by 10 to 12 gunshots and the phone goes dead. Very odd.
  5. Very sad day for Tiger/Grizzly fans. My father-in-law is a cop and he's the one who found the body. Said it wasn't a pretty sight.
  6. Was he really the most likely candidate for the job? I wouldn't have thought they had him at the head of the line even before this outing. I have no idea who they'll pick. They seem to be following their plan to put Z back in the bullpen. Cashner probably would be determined to not be stretched out either. Marshall's certainly not going to move. It will probably come down to one of Diamond, Jackson, Samardzija, or Atkins. Atkins would be the dumbest choice of the 4, so I'll bet on that. I would love to see what Diamond could do.
  7. Wow.. Well with the rationale of it being ok that Colvin misplayed the fly ball to him because Ludwick did too, why isn't it ok to say that he should have caught it since Ludwick caught that one? No one said it's ok, just that the wind is pretty tough today. Definitley didn't warrant a nice [expletive] defense.
  8. Are you serious? Wind is ridiculous. That was a pop-up. Hard to blame Colvin when the exact same thing happened to Ludwick.
  9. In case it hasn't been said in a while. Thanks again OO for doing this everyday. Very much appreciated.
  10. Ho-ly... CRAP! The irony! It's just too much! What's so ironic about it? Objectively I can say that most fans are too emotionally invested in a team to make the right business and personnel decisions. The Ricketts family has no experience owning a sports franchise previous to the Cubs. It seems to me like a billionaire's hobby for them. How can you not see the irony in that?
  11. This could actually be his thing for the 2010 offseason. "Obviously we need guys who can play during the day".
  12. You're not, you're just the one being honest. This is extremely offensive. Just because you didn't understand basic math at a young age doesn't mean nobody did. Except nobody was looking at baseball cards and subtracting AVG from SLG to determine which players were powerful hitters. You mean to tell me you find it outside the realm of possibility that a young kid who likes math... a kid who is calculating his own BA and OBP and Slugging from little league games... didn't notice that guys with a bunch of home runs had a slugging percentage about .200-.250 points higher than their batting average and guys who didn't hit home runs had a much lower difference? That the very idea a kid might notice such a thing is so unrealistic that you can determine that nobody did that? Nah. You guys can't say that. You're just being jerks to be jerks. That's actually exactly what I'm saying. Kids looked at HR's and rbi to determine power hitters. Some kids my have even looked at slugging %. No kids were subtracting avg from slugging to determine which high slugging % hitters had their slugging affected by singles.
  13. You know some pretty smart 12 year olds who are talking about ISoP I can distinctly remember sitting in my attic with cards laid out and and subtracting AVG from SLG. The best of these would be my "Sluggers" when arranging my cards into batting orders. I had no idea it had a name, it just seemed like something worth doing. I'd also subtract AVG from OBP to "see who walked alot" amongst those with decent averages. EDIT: This may have been later. Thinking back, I imagine lots of kids did very similar things. Why were you sitting in the attic ? I thought you were supposed to sit in the basement when figuring out these types of stats? I call BS by the way on this. Unless you were up in the attic doing this within the last few months.
  14. I had no idea Alex Gonzalez had 17 hr's. I figured it was a misprint.
  15. Keith Law's lates chat. Billy (Champaign) Hey Keith, I was wondering what your thoughts are on Brett Jackson. You sounded disappointed that he was on the futures game roster, and then didn't have him in your top 25, or even an honorable mention yesterday. Are you down on him, or just not nearly as high on him as a lot of others? Klaw (2:07 PM) Never been very high on him. Don't see a plus tool, and I believe he's going to strike out too often to be an impact hitter through batting average. Bob (Tinley Park, IL) What happened to Josh Vitters...I'm guessing that he dropped off your list due to his lack of plate discipline? Klaw (1:16 PM) Yes, in a nutshell. His whole approach isn't improving - if anything it's gone backwards. Great swing, potential power, but how's he going to get to it if he shows virtually no discrimination at the plate?
  16. It sucks that they suck but if they're going to suck i'm glad they suck this bad.
  17. As would probably 75% of the league. I dont see Paul going anywhere. Rumor also floating around that the Nets are looking at taking Wesley Johnson with the 3rd pick instead of taking Favors or Cousins..... I think the Nets are crazy for not taking Cousins 3rd. A Cousins/Lopez frontcourt would look pretty good for the next several years. Until Cousins goes crazy. Favors > Cousins Cousins NBA career > Favors NBA career. And i bet it won't be very close. All bets are off if Cousins goes crazy and commits a homicide though.
  18. Interesting. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5318111

  20. Single for Soto. Hill would've doubled there.
  21. Lou has officially lost his mind. 130 pitches for Wells. 102 to start the inning.
  22. Is Theroit even offered arbitration this offseason?
  23. I don't know, but it was hard to figure how he was so effective last year, and now it seems to be balancing out. Yea, more than likely he's just not very good.
  24. So I guess Hill and Soto are in a straight platoon now? I agree with whoever said they think Lou just personally doesn't like Geo.
