  1. How can you single out a favorite part? It's all spectacularly stupid.
  2. How many times do I have to tell you people to stop using flim-flam. Counting stats are devoid of meaning without context. Use wFF+ and pay attention to mitigating factors like that time he struck out with a runner on third. Or better yet, skin color and hustle.

  4. If Stewart can put up his career numbers (.233 batting average and all), while playing slightly above average defense, he can be a league average-ish starter. There are exactly zero better, major-league-ready options in the system right now. This is a silly debate.
  5. Hey Nate, what is your favorite color?
  6. Is this the part where I get all full of myself for ranking him higher than everybody else?
  7. Wade Davis is gonna be pretty excited when he stops receiving WSR's used underwear in the mail.
  8. rob was saying he wished we'd held onto him until closer to the deadline; you seem dissatisfied with the trade for reasons that aren't completely clear. And I stand by it. Bowden was most likely a Cub regardless of the outcome of this trade. I have to imagine the Cubs would have had waiver priority. So the outcome is really a PTBNL for picking up what looks to be almost the entirety of Byrds contract? Unless the PTBNL is some sort of "last year's draft pick" situation, I have to imagine this is just marginally better than letting Byrd play out the contract. With stakes like that, I'd rather roll the die and hope another team needs a CF closer to the deadline. I think the whole AL has wavier priority over the Cubs, or is that just the mid-season waiver deadline? Damn, you're right. I forgot about that archaic rule. The trade is somewhat better with that in mind, though I'm still not gonna say I'm enthused. I guess we'll see who the PTBNL is.
  9. Fine. Amended rule: New posters must send me booze so I'm less angry.
  10. It's been two [expletive] weeks. I propose a rule whereby new members aren't allowed to post anything until 3 in-season months after they register.

  13. I will never understand sentiment like this. Why the [expletive] is he a "bum?" He was signed to a very team-friendly deal, always seemed like a good guy and unfortunately it looks like injury and age might have caught up to him, yet we've got meatballs like this acting like they got rid of some kind of horrible burden on the team. It's nothing really personal, he's just a bad baseball player now. Since when? He was awesome right after he got back from the beaning. It wasn't until later in the season that he wore down... which wasn't surprising, considering that the doctors hadn't let him do any conditioning for weeks after the injury. He's off to a slow start in 13 games. That's not nearly the same as being a bad baseball player. He's still the same average to slightly above-average player he always was.
  14. Edes is saying it's Bowden, a PTBNL, and the Cubs are covering most of Byrds salary. If that's it, I'd just as soon have held on til closer to the deadline.
  15. As the poster child for the "free agency-averse posters" I'd be thrilled to sign BJ Upton. He's exactly the sort of player I want to have the money available for.
  16. How much longer does Geo get? Midseason at least. Theyll probably want value if possible so theyll probzbly give him time. I could see the Rays making a fair offer soonish. Their situation behind the plate is a mess.
  17. MAYBE WE CAN TRADE HIM FOR WADE DAVIS
  18. Silva didn't impress me all that much at 2B last year, but most of the problems appeared to be mechanical in nature... exactly the sort of stuff you'd expect from somebody learning a new position. His hands were good and the range and arm seemed fine, if not terribly impressive.
  19. About that... I'm no scout, but my impression from the game last night was that Kyler's time to the plate was pretty slow. There wasn't much deception in the delivery either. He was impressive... but he's being developed like a starter, not a pen arm.
  20. Cut out of work a tad early today so I can make it to Peoria's opener on time. I'm excited.
  21. I'm kinda surprised one of these hasn't popped up yet. How else are we supposed to humblebrag? Yahoo! 12 team head to head league. Auction format, $226 budget. Players can be kept at their previous year salary +$5 Hitting: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, Util. Categories are R, HR, RBI, SB, and AVG. Pitching: SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, P. Maximum of 7 starts per week. Categories are W, SO, SV, ERA, and WHIP. [This is year two of my league: I was keeping Gordon, Bautista, Jennings, Price, Sanchez, and Trout, I also had a bit more than the normal budget due to a couple offseason trades] C - Brian McCann ($15) 1B - Albert Pujols ($50) 2B - Jose Altuve ($1) 3B - Evan Longoria ($39) SS - Dee Gordon ($5) LF - Matt Holliday ($32) CF - Desmond Jennings ($5) RF - Jose Bautista ($26) Util - BJ Upton ($14) SP - David Price ($20) SP - Mat Latos ($14) SP - Max Scherzer ($7) SP - Anibal Sanchez ($5) RP - Huston Street ($1) P - Kenley Jansen ($1) BN - Chris Sale ($1) BN - Jhoulys Chacin ($1) BN - Ted Lilly ($1) BN - J.D. Martinez ($1) BN - Mike Trout ($6) I think my pitching is a little on the weak side, but it should be competitive. And I friggin love my offense, even if I do have a few too many steals.
  22. Matt Bush is in trouble again.
  23. I really don't see Volstad as having 2 potential. He's never even cracked 7 K/9. A groundballing innings eater 3? Maybe. But to be a 2 requires occasional dominance.
  24. Rotoworld says Sveum called Samardzija a "near lock" for the rotation. It was probably posted on the last page, but I'm too lazy to check.
  25. What wants to hear the Marlins new theme song?
