  1. Please, for the love of god, will people stop trying to say we replaced Mark DeRosa with Aaron Miles? We replaced DeRosa with a combination of Fontenot and Miles at 2B, depending on who was pitching. Jake Fox at 3B. And Fox, Hoff, and Fuld in the OF.
  2. I don't see how that's surprising. Huntington has done a hell of a job since he was hired.
  3. When evaluating Halladay's trade value, there are a few key points to remember. 1) The potential return has to be better than the two high draft picks that Toronto would likely receive after the season. 2) Our package must be better than any competitor's package. Santana was had for a "meh" handful of prospects, but that's in large part because nobody was bidding on him. We're gonna have to wait and see what the rumors floating around from other teams are before we can decide whether the package is likely to require Castro and Cashner as the starting point, or whether it might only require something like Vitters and Carpenter plus a few minor pieces.
  4. By rule, we cannot trade anybody from the most recent draft, which includes Brett Jackson.
  5. Castillo, Dolis, Gaub, Parker, and Adduci were all added to the 40 tonight. They are now protected from the Rule 5. The only real surprise in the group was Adduci.
  6. I said weeks before we even thought about it that trading DeRosa would be a good idea. Granted, a large portion of that was based on the idea that Fontenot would play like 85% of DeRosa and the Cardinals were not a real threat for the division crown, but it was still the right call to make at the time. Hindsight doesn't change that. I'll admit that at the time of the trade, I was a bit upset, thinking we could have possibly gotten more for him. But I conceded that if there's one thing Hendry is good at, it's picking good young talent to trade for. Ceda for Walker, Burke for Barrett, etc... This appears to be another one of those situations.
  7. Good negotiating move by the Blue Jays. They know getting us involved will only drive the price up. And I'm sure Hendry realizes that, even if he has no intention of giving up what it takes to get Halladay, staying involved in negotiations will increase the price other teams need to pay. I predict this to drag a long while, but for us to never get terribly close to acquiring him.
  8. Teams have to offer those guys arbitration in order to even get the picks, correct? Who in their right mind would offer Wagner arbitration? If they aren't offered arbitration (which is extemely likely for some guys in this DEPRESSED market), then you don't give up anything to sign them. Yes and no. For players signed after the December 1st deadline to offer arbitration, teams only get picks if they offered arbitration. For players signed before that deadline, it's automatically assumed that the team would have offered arbitration, and they get those draft picks. We've seen that happen a few times. For instance, when Jason Kendall left the Cubs for the Brewers, they acted on it before the deadline and the Cubs got a draft pick out of it.
  9. Not far off considering I made that guess on Sept. 15th.
  10. Depending on the exact contract details I might've very well applauded signing one of those, despite the loss of draft pick.
  11. Neal Cotts wishes he could have had the era's in the amount of innings that Grabow had in 07-08. Piece of friendly advice, don't try to use ERA on this board again. It's fairly meaningless, and most here understand that.
  12. Where did somebody find the exact terms? I cant even find somebody to say its been finalized.
  13. BA has Ryne White ranked as the #18 prospect in the DBacks system prior to the 2009 season. BA says he is a strong all-around hitter with power to all fields and excellent defensive footwork, likening him to a Sean Casey with more power as an optimistic comp. Maine did not appear.
  14. I really don't think there's any way Watkins gets ranked that high without significant input from the Cubs front office.
  15. I'm assuming they're all smart enough they mean Jay Jackson. Although I guess the adventures at that orioles board should have taught me better than to assume fans on other websites know the rules.
  16. Derek Jeter with less walks but more defense.
  17. I wouldn't part with Castro. I don't think the Cubs front office would either.
  18. Very true. But it's nice to have an idea of what they think it'll cost. Compare that to what we think it should cost, and then try to come up in the middle. I think it's time to consider that we may not get a deal done without including Castro.
  19. General consensus on the Tigers boards is that they wont even look at a package without Castro, then probably Vitters and Jackson too, if not more.
  20. Here's a simple fact... even if you admit that the Yankees system isn't as good as ours, they can still put together a better trade proposal most of the time for one simple reason. They'll eat bad contracts. And when it comes to Detroit, they have no shortage of those laying around. Ordonez, Willis, Guillen, Bonderman, Robertson...
  21. I thought Goldstein was still pretty down on the system. Saying we had a big turnaround, but we still weren't in the top half. I could be wrong on that.
  22. Callis has a bit too much love for B. Jackson and the Cubs FO is probably too high on Watkins. Aside from that, I wont take much issue with the list... though I do think Flaherty may need to be dropped a few spots.
  23. Blatantly stolen from Cot's: Mod Edit: Dates updated on 11/2/2010
  24. He fully acknowledged that he zeroed in on one portion of your post that was misleading and nitpicked at it. You dont need to get so bent out of shape.
