  1. CEO of Second Mile resigns Jack Raykovitz, the chief executive of the Second Mile foundation for 28 years, has resigned amid a sexual abuse scandal involving the charity’s founder, the former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Raykovitz’s failure to do more to stop Sandusky, who has been charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse against young boys, has been a focal point of criticism. The Pennsylvania attorney general has said that Sandusky used the Second Mile to prey on his victims, and that he met each of the eight boys mentioned in the grand jury report through the foundation. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/15/sports/ncaafootball/jack-raykovitz-chief-of-second-mile-resigns-amid-penn-state-scandal.html
  2. Gordon Eades predictions, FWIW
  3. Alomar's media session seemingly went well despite (or because of?) the fantasy baseball remarks. Jon Greenburg also has him tagged as a front-runner:
  4. I think I'm on the Maddux train. My main concern with managers is pitcher usage, which I freely admit may be a lingering reaction to Dusty. I love the thought that the Cubs could actually be a leader in optimizing pitcher development and use, and that this hire could be the first step. That focus outweighs my concern about his lack of managerial experience.
  5. Hopefully, they're right, because the alternative is ridiculous.
  6. Maybe, though the kid said he met him, and it wouldn't be easy to confuse McQueary with Sandusky. Oh, and the kid's father said that Sandusky attended a football camp in Utah last summer on behalf of Penn State: PITTSBURGH — Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky remained as a de facto recruiter for the Nittany Lions as late as last summer. The father of a South Carolina high school player says Sandusky attended a Football camp for players of Polynesian descent in Utah last year and encouraged players to play for coach Joe Paterno. Sandusky made the trip even as a grand jury investigated claims of sexual abuse by the former coach. Sandusky is now charged with molesting eight boys over a 15-year period. http://www.dailyjournal.net/view/story/cf41bcd0e3a148acae41ff5e5ee497c8/FBC--Penn-State-Recruiting/
  7. The victim families have come out publicly asking them to play out the season and for everyone to be supportive. They are afraid that if the season is canceled that other victims that have not come forward yet won't do so for fear of the repercussions. More sadness, since fear of repercussions is what kept this a well-known secret for over a decade.
  8. Here's the link to the B&B writeup, which contains another link to the original MSNBC article: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/11/11/sandusky-recuited-hs-players-this-season/
  9. B&B just read a news article quoting a Penn State recruit saying Sandusky paid him a recruiting visit as a Penn State football rep this past spring.
  10. Another quote from Mark Madden on NEEI: "My opinion is when Sandusky quit, everybody knew -- not just at Penn State," Madden added. "I think it was a very poorly kept secret about college football in general, and that is why he never coached in college football again and retired at the relatively young age of 55. [That's] young for a coach, certainly."
  11. $$$$
  12. What a sad story all around. The ramifications are not going to be limited to Penn State. If I'm an AD* anywhere else in the country, at a minimum I'm working late triple-checking guidelines for access and use of facilities; staff training from bottom to top on reporting requirements (for sexual assault and any other crime) and how far out to extend and renew background checks for non-employees. More crimes will come to light -- a good thing -- hopefully none as systematic and far-reaching as the Penn State situation (conspiracy?). *or University President
  13. There's two minutes of video and a writeup on Cubs.com: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20111104&content_id=25898788
  14. Welcome to the forums, drewha!
  15. Welcome to the board! They reported on the Score this morning that Bush was let go with a one year severance, but then later said that the Cubs had called and stated that he would actually be staying with the team through this season. They were going to try to get clarification as to what his role would be moving forward.
  16. Welcome to the board!
  17. People have been complaining about the loss of innocence of Cubs fans for decades.
  18. It's been a long night

  20. Theo is supposed to be on Waddle & Silvy on ESPN 1000 tomorrow at 9 am CT. & purple shirt guy vindicated - http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-talk-theo-epstein-starbucks-1022-20111026,0,2521154.story
  21. The first few posts for new posters have to be approved to keep away the spambots - his were in fairly short order. Not sure what he means about being approved after posting. You can auto-notify someone when a post is approved; maybe he thought the notice meant something else or that his post had to be approved twice. ??
  22. I can honestly say that last night's game was the most fun I've ever had following twitter comments.
  23. I wonder what Quade will say when Theo asks him about his vision for the organization.
