  1. Apparently Drayton McClane runs MLB.
  2. They could play in Milwaukee on fairly short notice. But that would require someone at MLB to actually make a decision.
  3. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/09/cubs-waiting-fo.html I've got to think that the Cubs front office is pissed off by all this dithering, particularly since the current problems have been apparent for the past few days to anyone with a functioning brain stem.
  4. The Houston mayor has asked residents to stay indoors at home because emergency crews need to be responding to life-threatening emergencies and clearing downed power lines and debris from the streets. Also: White also asked residents to conserve water because the city's water supply was reaching low-pressure levels amid a power outage at a crucial pumping station. Using tap water to bathe or clean up could lower the pressure even further, he said. That also means that the Cubs may have a difficult time getting into town.
  5. Reliant Stadium damaged; Monday's game is off The Houston Texans will not be playing their home opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night at Reliant Stadium. The game was supposed to have been played at 7:30 p.m., but Hurricane Ike has caused damage to the stadium that has made it unsuitable for hosting the game. ``The facility will not be usable,'' said Shey Guinn, president of SMG, the company that manages Reliant Park. ``There's some structural damage to the roof. Part of it is off,'' Guinn said. ``There's also some other damage on the property caused by wind and water. We're in the process of assessing the damage,'' he said. ``As far as the game being postponed again or played, that will be up to the NFL.''
  6. It was a bad decision yesterday, and it will continue to be a bad decision. http://images.sportsnetwork.com/mlb/getty/selig_allstara.jpg I can't wait to see what bad idea he comes up with to solve future hurricane scheduling issues.
  7. Barry Rozner writes the same thing in the Daily Herald today.
  8. That's why there is a commissioner's office that is supposed to weigh the best interests of baseball above the competitive concerns of individual teams and force those tough decisions. If these games end up being appended to the end of the season, that has the potential to impact the final national league standings across the board. As a Cubs fan, I'll be furious if they finish with the best NL record, but some of the advantages that the best record is supposed to convey are negated because these games had to be played after the regular season.
  9. That makes sense, but trying to fly another team into the city to play does not. What's the status of Houston? I would hope that a major league organization could assist in arranging transportation and accommodations for families as well as players if evacuation is urged.
  10. There are different data feeds for pitch speed. Brooks Baseball, based on pitchfx, has him touching 90-92 frequently. The tv speeds they were showing were slower. Harden does seem more prone to swings in velocity between starts.
  11. He will also grab any female in his vicinity, and he doesn't always have a pleasant aroma.
  12. I knew Ronnie Woo-Woo would be on there before clicking the link.
  13. Yost will figure he can go long since he'll have an extra day of rest before facing the Cubs.
  14. I admit, I'm a 9/8 brewers vs reds game late innings bandwagon jumper it feels good!
  15. Not too much longer.
  16. I'm going to give A New Era a few more hours since he has read my previous PMs about the game thread.
  17. The doom and gloom stories are easier to write. Heck, they almost write themselves.
  18. There will be as many stories as there are sources, especially if Z and Lou weren't talking (Lou because he didn't have the information, apparently).
  19. When you set up scenarios that all end with you being the Ultimate Cubs Fan Who Deserves Tickets, you reap what you sow.
  20. You're at the top of the list now, so you'll move to the bottom if the Cubs lose one of your game thread starts. Win out, and you'll keep starting, BABY!
