  2. Ha, Vance just texted: Lou Piniella called me a pain in the ass
  3. I subscribe to Tranny's newsletter on this. Looking forward to seeing Castro play. How so? Both were top prospects with high celings (supposedly). Both were rushed to the majors well before they were ready, and both fizzled out and became completely worthless in the short span of a few seasons. This is following the same pattern. I don't see how it's out of line to expect the same result. Yes, and the United States and Angola are both countries, that doesn't mean their problems or best courses of action are similar. Pie and Patterson both had high K rates(especially considering how little they walked), making them more likely to be exploited by MLB pitchers at a young age. Castro is extremely rare in that he has a very low strikeout rate, making him less likely to fall flat on his face at the MLB level, and as a result, probably result in more patience from the coaching staff(this was Pie's problem). Furthermore, Castro has shown a consistent ability to adapt to promotions very well, including improving the weakest points of his game. When he was hitting .400 a couple weeks ago I mentioned that his walk rate was probably so low because he was getting hits all the time. Through the first 14 games he was killing the ball and had 3 walks. In the last 12 games he's leveled off a bit but has 6 walks. His walk rate improved by month last year as well, despite a promotion mid-season. Again, as long as he plays consistently(which is more likely to happen than with Pie/Patterson because of his skillset, and because the alternative is Fontenot/Baker), then there's not a lot wrong with this.
  4. In Seattleville they say that Milton Bradley's small heart grew THREE SIZES that day!
  5. Let's face it, it will take a miracle to beat the Pirates at this point. 6. Tribune said there was going to be an immigration protest. Why in front of Wrigley? I would guess because it's got a lot of media, and would then get a lot of attention. Also, maybe Arizona Diamondbacks? Bingo. There was much talk about the Wrigley protest being planning about the AZ law this morning on sports radio.

  10. Entries are now being taken for the 2010 HR Derby! The deadline for posting is 11:59:59 PM Central Time on Friday, April 2 2010. The thread will be locked at the deadline. Please see the Events Forum for rules & entries.
  11. Does anyone know whether if you bought 6 tickets to a game today, you can buy another 6 for the same game on Friday when they go on 'regular' sale? Do the per-game ticket limits apply to the presale?
  12. I bought July 24 bleacher tix because I won't be available to try for tickets until Friday late morning and already know that friends will be in town for that game. In the past you've been able to guesstimate remaining availability by looking at the bleacher 'seat numbers,' which have been consecutively numbered as they are sold. Obviously, they could be selling different sequences to different fan categories this season, but for fun: Cubs 09 media guide puts bleacher seating at 4960. My bleacher seats topped out at #4228 at 10:48 am. I'll be interested in Friday's war stories and seeing how many people were able to get seats at regular pricing for the White Sox games (which I didn't try for) and the July 24 game. I also bought a couple of tickets to a Saturday August game, and there seems to be plenty of availability still remaining for that game.
  13. Thanks, Pete! You can add me to the list, too! :D)
  14. Thanks, Tim -- it's a handy summary! I wouldn't have been able to go to the Convention this year regardless, but I stopped going a few years ago because it just seemed too oversold. Last time I went (a few years ago), you'd have to arrive 15-20 minutes early to sessions or the room would be closed. The last convention I attended I ended up spending more time at the bar than fighting the crowds! Maybe a new venue would help matters.

  17. You lived through Donny Buntball and Dusty Baker, I think you can live through the failings of Ryno. There are future generations to consider now!
  18. They said on espn radio this morning that DLee will probably be out with neck spasms. Supposedly Angel Guzman smacked him on the neck last night when Baker & DLee were collecting high-fives after the HR.
