  1. It really is. He's an interesting player and can be the poster boy for a lot of good and frustrating things about the league and american soccer. Unquestionably good but never great. Valuable but expendable. Could be really interesting to see what Tata Martinez and all that offensive talent does with him. Either way, Portland is really, really moving on from the Caleb Porter era.
  2. Their attacking chemistry has been so damn fragile since Lodeiro came. When it's right, they're the best. When it's not, they're mediocre. He's one of the best in the league, but they've struggled to find good spacing when he, Deuce, and Morris all play, so I'm thinking even if Morris is healthy, they stick with Bruin up top and use JM as a change of pace sub.
  3. And Bradley turned full heel on the entire city of Columbus, a city in which he has had some of the best & worst performances of his life for the US, and completely dominates the game almost single-handedly. I look forward to another single digit temp final in Toronto between TFC and Seattle. Hopefully with Dempsey healthy they'll actually manage a shot on goal.
  4. Love to watch a meaningless friendly where the us plays with way more effort than in the biggest game of their lives.
  5. [tweet] [/tweet] Gtfoh. I'll watch tho.
  6. Horvath suuuuuuuuucks.
  7. We're 20 minutes in and the Acosta-McKennie-Adams midfield is playing the Tab Ramos high press and they look great doing it. Like wolves around a wounded deer. Annnnd McKennie scores. Nice.
  8. Love and light to my dutch, italian, chilean, and ghanaian brothers and sisters. Peace (and the club game) be with you. Obviously in terms of stature and the void felt by the world at the world cup, we are not Holland and Italy. Still, I hate seeing dudes like Clint Dempsey and Gigi Buffon go out like this.
  9. They're getting a team, and also, me. Looks like I'm probably moving to Nashville early next year. I look forward to hitting you up for tickets if I can't get on the season ticket list.
  10. http://americansoccernow.com/articles/adams-mckennie-sargent-highlight-u-s-roster Time to panic about losing Jonathan Gonzalez to Mexico.
  11. Nevermind.
  12. Very gratifying to see Clint Dempsey having fun playing soccer again.
  13. It must be awfully conflicting to be a die hard fan of these big clubs as you watch your favorite player demolish one of the GIANT clubs and just knowing that he'll be wearing their uniform when the summer transfer window comes around. What I'm saying is enjoy Dele Alli while you can.
  14. Bobby Wood is in a "negative spiral" and probably facing an uphill climb back into the lineup for Hamburg. https://www.starsandstripesfc.com/usmnt-americans-abroad/2017/11/1/16588608/usa-usmnt-bobby-wood-hamburger-sv-hamburg-negative-spiral Yedlin's first game back for Newcastle after T&T was sketchy. He should've been sent off twice. Only poor officiating saved him. Deuce had the meltdown throwing elbows and got red in his first game back. Jozy & Bradley are getting booed everywhere they go, but they seem to be handling it well. Not a surprise as those two are supremely classy and have been through the wars in their time in Europe.
  15. He should be in Portugal next month. I really, really hope he, Gonzalez, and Horvath can be Friedel, Keller, Meola for this generation.
  16. So the obvious solution is to play half the season between December and March and abandon the nicest weather of months of the year in the process? December/January in NY, Boston, Philly, Denver, Chicago, Cascadia, Canada, SLC, and Minnesota would be miserable. More than half the league! I've seen some compelling cases for the clasura/apertura model from Mexico and S America which is essentially shorter seasons that straddle the bad weather period.
  17. I'm curious as to what got into England's youth teams lately. Gotta just be strictly club investment in player development, right? No way this is top-down from the FA. http://www.espnfc.us/united-states/story/3236812/eric-wynalda-set-to-stand-for-us-soccer-federation-presidency So Wynalda is essentially Bernie Sanders for USSF President. Equal pay for the women : equal pay for women, move MLS to a winter calendar/make a path to pro-rel/observe FIFA dates : single payer HC. No one pays enough attention to this for a populist to win, and on the surface these seem like pipe dreams that will never be implemented (other than equal pay for the women which absolutely could & should happen), but at the same time a part of me is like [meme of guy walking with girlfriend (Gulati) but checking out other girl (Waldo]. At least the chaos would be interesting.
  18. After the amount of crappy weather youth soccer games I've attended, I can't help thinking how awesome indoor soccer sounds. as a kid I hated playing outdoor, and loved indoor. So much more fast paced and entertaining since there's essentially no out of bounds, unless the ball got stuck up on the stage or caught in the folded in bleachers. Me too. Waaaaaaay less running.
  19. Captain Claudio should be USS President. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/features/claudio-reyna-us-soccer-shut-up-be-better-humility-youth-development-nycfc-futsal-courts
  20. Weah's second was a banger, but judging from those highlights alone, Carleton had himself a monster game. That ball to Sargent was sensational. England next. That will be a test. I know zero about this u-17 team, but they've been cranking out some great youth teams lately. I would really love to win this tournament. I think it'd go a long way to show what we can improve on what we have rather than blowing everything and starting over in youth development. I think we can make major changes that are important without rolling back the clock.
  21. Definitely. There's two conversations going on at once. The best way to develop talent for the national team and this particular failure. Sunil Gulati isn't necessarily wrong when he implies that this team missing the world cup was a matter of a few inches here and there. This team was more than capable of topping qualification like Jurgen & Bob's teams did from a pure talent perspective. This team would have probably gotten out of their group and had a chance to win a knockout game, just like very US team since 2002. But as long as we're going to miss out on the big show, we might as well use it as an opportunity to address what has caused the complacency, because we shouldn't be fielding teams with similar potential 15 years after 2002 when the rest of the american soccer landscape has progressed light years from that time.

  23. As a Bruges fan, I'd like to suggest Ethan Horvath. He's close to being ready (needs more work on his timing on high crosses, but is already a fantastic goalline keeper). Horvath & Jese Gonzalez have 5 years to turn into legit keepers for the national team, so I hope Jese follows Ethan' lead and goes to Europe. It's always better to have two or more that push each other.
  24. [tweet] [/tweet]That's...bad, right?
  25. He makes millions with no oversight just by being slightly less corrupt than old school FIFA crooks. Of course he wants to downplay his failure. You don't get rich as an Econ professor. [tweet] [/tweet] horsefeathers him
