http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-18-cubs-padres-chicago-aug18,0,2154939.story Gregg out as the closer (until Lou changes his mind again, we know what sort of attention span the man has when it comes to major personnel changes).
I know this blows chunks, but I never quite understand this criticism. Do you want the guy to break into tears on the mound after an outing like this, or what?
The latter. The former allows you to spit blood for the rest of the evening and then collapse into bed, exhausted from the sheer rage. The latter would have you finding out right at the start of your day that Gregg blew it and I dunno about you, but that would just ruin my day from the outset.
There's a distinct chance the milk carton might do a better job. At the very least, none of the lactose-intolerant or dairy-allergic hitters will be able to touch him.
I'm glad I didn't have 720 on for the end here. Santo must have been absolutely having puppies and there's nothing more depressing than a steady stream of "OH GOSH!" and "GEE WHIZ!"
Because there's nothing about Julio Lugo OPSing .980+, Joel Pineiro with a 3.25 ERA in 23 starts and Ryan Franklin - that's Mariners and Reds castoff Ryan Franklin - with an ERA as a closer lower than his weight that says "not a fluke."
Yes. If Fuld had been playing LF (not that he was available, he pinch hit earlier) that might have been caught, or at least it might have held Eckstein at 3rd.
