  1. The Nationals score a run after an Adam Dunn double off the wall. The score is 6-1 Marlins.
  2. The Marlins are now starting to pour it on. It is 6-0 after a 2 run HR by Jorge Cantu and then a solo HR by Jeremy Hermida.
  3. That was an easy first appearance as a Met for K-Rod.
  4. Why would they boo him? If I remember Teixeira all but rejected the Orioles when he was shopping around for a new contract.
  5. Santana is done for the day after 5 2/3 innings.
  6. It is now 2-1 Mets after a Brandon Phillips sac fly.
  7. Now the Reds are starting to make a comeback. After a bad throw by Beltran the Reds have men on second and third with no outs.
  8. Murphy gets another RBI after he grounds out to first. Mets up 2-0.
  9. It's at somewhere around 114. The fifth should be his last inning in. But it's dusty - so it won't be. Surprisingly it will be. Micah Owings is set to pinch hit for him.
  10. It's at somewhere around 114. The fifth should be his last inning in.
  11. Aaron Harang will be getting plenty of work this game. With only one out in the fifth he already has thrown 103 pitches. Now the Reds' defense is starting to collapse behind him.
  12. Dan Murphy just hit a home run. Mets up 1-0.
  13. Great play by Church to get the double play.
  14. The Phillies have a nice fake rally going.
  15. Brett Meyers is getting knocked around. Jeff Francour hit a first pitch home run, and now Jordan Schafer hit a home run in his first major league at bat.
  16. Brian McCann just hit the first home run of the season. Braves lead 2-0.
  17. Ted Lilly now gives up a 3 run HR. It has not been a good night for him.
  18. The Pats acquired this pick from San Diego on draft day last year along with a fifth rounder so that the Chargers could take Jacob Hester. That's some awesome long term scouting if they had a player in mind last year that they wanted to take in this year's draft with that pick. Yeah, they're really good. Actually, I meant the KC pick, which I should know is gone since they picked before my second rounder. Shows how much I'm paying attention... Who's the player, by the way? Connor Barwin. I don't mind saying it now because I know there's no way he'll be there for my third round pick. I wanted him there for my second rounder in case Beatty and English were gone. Sounds interesting, if not a bit raw. As a D-Lineman I'd certainly take Ayers and Gilbert over him, though. A bit raw, but very Vrabel-esque. He'd be a great SAM for their 3-4. After the Combine Barwin joined Lawrence Sidbury, Jr. as OLBs that I would like to see the Packers draft in the second or third round. Both of them I view as great prospects that have the potential to turn into amazing rush linebackers because of their athleticism and intelligence. This is despite the fact that both are raw, and would most likely take some time to develop. I also like Jarron Gilbert but if jame.gumb is looking to draft an OLB then Gilbert is off the board since he will be a DE in a 3-4. I'm not sure where I stand on Robert Ayers. While I do like his potential I don't think he is an ideal fit anywhere in a 3-4. He's too small to play DE, and I question if he is athletic enough to play OLB. He looks like he would be a much better fit as a DE in a 4-3.
  19. Smith is sinking like a stone, but there is no way that I see him lasting until the Third Round. There will be some team stupid to draft him in the first two rounds simply on talent alone. Pat Kirwan's New Mock I will not be happy if the Packers select Andre Smith, especially if B.J. Raji and a few top defensive players are still on the board.
  20. Although Larry English had a poor Combine he still is either a 4-3 DE or 3-4 OLB. He is way too small to play DE in the 3-4. During the Combine Mike Mayock broke down some video of English and determined that his style of play was almost identical to LaMarr Woodley's. William Beatty is an ideal selection for the Packers' second round draft pick. Of all the second tier OTs he is my favorite. His athleticism is also ideal for the zone blocking scheme the Packers run, even though there are talks of phasing it out next season. The only other player that I would have preffered over Beatty would have been Jarron Gilbert, DE out of San Jose St. The Packers are thin at DE and he would have been perfect for the one gap 3-4 that the Packers are planning to implement.
  21. I'll admit that I phrased the part about Davis not showing anything on the field incorrectly. What I meant to say is that Davis has shown flashes of the elite player that he could become in the NFL, but he had yet to do so on a consistent basis. It's the same thing that scouts were saying about Vernon Davis. If we're going to bring up college accolaids lets at least get it right. Malcolm Jenkins has been selected as a First Team All-Big Ten Player for the last three years, a Second Team All-American in 2007, a First Team All-American and Jim Thorpe Winner in 2008. For Davis add Third Team All-American in 2008 and a Freshman All-American in 2006. Thanks for clearing that up. I've read multiple reasons about what caused Davis to be benched, and I just wanted to get an answer from an Illinois fan paying closer attention to the situation. With how prevalent zone coverage schemes are in the NFL Jenkins will undoubtedly find a team that can maximize his abilities. The same thing can be said for Davis and his skills in man to man coverage. Also nowhere did I say that Jenkins would make money for his ability to play man coverage. His demand will be driven by his ability to play zone coverage. How surprising. I will say that Vontae Davis has the higher ceiling of the two, but he also has the lower floor. I guess it depends on what type of prospect each person prefers. Even the best cornerbacks in the NFL today would not be considered shutdown, but only elite. Shutdown corners were those that could be counted on to effectively shut down their half of the field. Examples are Deion Sanders, Herb Adderley, "Night Train" Lane, and just about every cornerback in the Hall of Fame. Due to rules that favor the offense and better athletes at wide receiver there isn't a cornerback in the game today that could shut down every opposing player. Even Champ Bailey in his prime could not help but have a bad game every now and then. In the end it really just comes down to how much you want to stretch the definition for "shutdown cornerback." Earlier in the thread you had no problem labelling Vontae Davis as a shutdown cornerback. Now you're saying that Jenkins only looked better because he had a better front seven than Davis? If Davis's ability to play man coverage is as great as you say it is then he shouldn't have a problem shadowing whatever wide receiver he is supposed to, regardless of how good or bad Illinois' front seven might be.
  22. -Davis being better in man coverage is debatable. Part of the problem is Ohio State's defensive scheme is so zone oriented that Jenkins rarely had an opportunity to play in man coverage. The few times he did, though, he had no problems with it. -I have already said that Davis is faster than Jenkins, and in retrospect I probably should have given Davis the nod in strength. For some reason I forgot that Vontae was a workout warrior. -Who is more physical is again debatable. Jenkins is better at playing against the run, press coverage, and blitzing. Davis is probably the bigger hitter of the two. That's wonderful. So is Jenkins. I guess that depends on what qualities teams look for in the players they draft. If a team is looking for an intelligent player that plays well consistently and shows better overall technique then Malcolm Jenkins is probably the way to go. If you want the cornerback with eye popping measureables who has yet to show them on the field then Vontae Davis is your choice. Jenkins has also played free safety quite a bit while at Ohio State. BTW what were the reasons that Ron Zook chose to demote Davis from time to time last season?
  23. can't believe some mocks still have jenkins going ahead of davis. that's a joke as jenkins will be drafted as a safety, which he hasn't played. What is so hard to believe about Malcolm Jenkins being picked ahead of Vontae Davis? Outside of straight line speed, is there anything that Davis does better than Jenkins?
  24. Peter King has the Chiefs trading a second round pick for both Cassel and Vrabel. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/peter_king/02/28/chiefs.trade.for.cassel/?eref=sircrc
