  1. Why would we do that? Where is Tejada going to go that it will benefit us in a 3-way trade? Not Philly. Not Cincy. Not Texas. The only way the Cubs would give Stockstill some of his prospects is if the Cubs were to get Tejada. Otherwise those pieces would be used to get us a stud RF who couldn't come in a Tejada 3-way.
  2. But the Roman Numerals are beside the point. It's really truly "Rule 5" no matter how many people really want it to be "Rule V." As for players taken in the minor league phase - it's essentially like being passed through irrevocable waivers. The cost is significantly lower too - $12,000 off the AA roster (AAA phase) and $4,000 for a player off the A roster (AA phase). They don't have to remain on any specific roster throughout the season so they're simply gone. However, these are nearly always just organizational players because you're already protecting so many guys on the 40-man roster and AAA Reserve list.
  3. We took cash considerations instead. That deal is done.
  4. This is the first time he's asked to be traded in his what, 9 year career? He's human and perhaps human emotion does get to him. He was said to be ostracized and depressed through the second half of last season (riff with Sosa, Raffy saying he gave him tainted B-12, team inevitably failing, etc.) Now this year he and his friends, such as Mora, are disappointed with the team's direction, disappointed with the lack of pitching and then they sign a guy that you apparently have a personal problem with... it all seems pretty rational to me. It's not like Manny asking for a trade then changing his mind every 2 months. I've never heard that Tejada is a clubhouse problem, I've never heard that he does anything less than energize a team. So he had a problem with Sosa... doesn't everyone? I have no idea what the issue with Ramon Hernandez is though -- I thought I read he was Tejada's kid's godfather? Who knows what happened between them but I think it's a stretch to imagine that it's significant and common enough to avoid him.
  5. Also in the Bruce Levine update they said the reason Tejada doesn't want to play there is personal with Ramon Hernandez and the Orioles knew that and still signed him. Levine said Hendry has had a serious discussion about their needs and what we have and they'll continue to talk about names today and tomorrow.
  6. Lost: Juan Mateo (RHP) in the Major league phase to the Cardinals. Lost: Yorkin Ferreras (LHP), Victor Ramos (RHP), and Andy Santana (LHP) in the AAA phase and Aaron Sisk (SS) in the AA phase. Drafted: Carlos Jan (LHP), Geivy Garcia (RHP), Aaron Rifkin (1B) in the AAA phase. We then traded Aaron Rifkin for a PTBNL to COL.
  7. There's a difference between "blocking Murton" and "400 PA of Mabry otherwise." Mabry is not going to be the 4th OF and he is not going to be a starter in any sense. It's not like we're going to have Aubrey Huff in a box so that when Murton fails we throw him into LF instead. Huff and Wilkerson means no Murton but Murton and Wilkerson doesn't mean Mabry starts. Mabry right now is primarily to backup 3B. Get a steady RF (Wilkerson fits this) and get a solid bench-bat 4th OF and Murton starts and you're covered. You don't go selling everything you have for BOTH Huff and Wilkerson. Besides, we'd then have only one RH outfielder option?
  8. 40-Man Roster Pitchers -- David Aardsma 46 Ryan Dempster 47 Scott Eyre 67 Angel Guzman 53 Rich Hill 62 Bob Howry 49 John Koronka 31 Greg Maddux -- Carlos Marmol -- Sean Marshall 44 Roberto Novoa 45 Will Ohman 22 Mark Prior 33 Glendon Rusch -- Jae-kuk Ryu 40 Todd Wellemeyer 32 Jerome Williams 48 Scott Williamson 34 Kerry Wood 43 Michael Wuertz 38 Carlos Zambrano Catchers 8 Michael Barrett 24 Henry Blanco -- Jose Reyes 58 Geovany Soto Infielders 11 Ronny Cedeno -- Brian Dopirak 25 Derrek Lee -- John Mabry -- Scott Moore 13 Neifi Perez 16 Aramis Ramirez 55 Ryan Theriot 7 Todd Walker Outfielders 15 Jerry Hairston 19 Matt Murton 20 Corey Patterson -- Felix Pie -- Juan Pierre So there we have it, Mabry is NOT coming with a Hollandsworth mask - he's a Macias replacement! And Moore of course is added.
  9. We received cash considerations in lieu of a replacement player.
  10. Hmm... the Rangers had credible interest in Patterson and Walker. Patterson and Walker for Wilkerson? Patterson, Walker, Williams?
  11. This thread became pretty annoying. I'd make a new thread to discuss the trade specifics rather than flexing our sabermetric muscles but then the thread would be locked and I'd be directed here... Do we have any confirmation? Was Mitre included? Was he not? Any word on who the second trade that's apparently still on the table is to?
  12. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-051206cubs,1,1301681.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines It says there are two offers on the table. One for Pierre, and one for several Cub players for one player in return - then says the Cubs have also had talks with Tampa for Lugo and Huff. George Offman was on the radio this morning and said there's another offer on the table from Hendry but no one is sure exactly who it is to yet - "but they've been in talks with the Dodgers, Rangers, Nationals, etc."
  13. OK... first of all, we had a poster say: but we're still taking the Muskat article as fact. Which is it? Seems more likely to me that Mitre IS included considering the sources saying that and only one source saying otherwise (Carrie Muskat...) Secondly... the Dave van Dyck article today said the Cubs have TWO offers on the table to TWO different teams... Does this not state that there is another team - not Florida nor TB - that we have an offer on the table to??
  14. LOL. What a load of crap. I'm far from Pierre's biggest supporter, in fact until I saw what entirely asinine exaggerations were being tossed around, I even figured I was a detractor. Odds are he will be at best only partially better than a .215 BA and a .254 OBP? Funny, because considering that his WORST year is significantly better, I'm going to have to question your ability to decide "odds." In fact... Pierre even edged out Corey's apparently-essential SLG this last year. Isn't any good with the glove? Actually he's very good with the glove. He has a ton of range and he catches the ball. He just has a pathetic arm (and we're talking about the arm without the glove) though. A BAD leadoff man? No... in fact 85% of the time he's one of baseball's best leadoff men. I don't want Pierre in a corner outfield spot, I didn't want Pierre batting #2 or down if we had a leadoff hitter and I don't overvalue his speed like apparently the Cubs do (meaning I'd prefer the plate discipline and baserunning instincts to slap and speed) but what's the fascination with such ridiculous polar exaggerations for players people do and do not like?
  15. Are you ever going to enable 'Search' again? It was sure useful.
  16. You guys have to realize what "for the right price" means. There's no chance of us, or probably anyone, getting either of these guys. Cabrera will cost us about Murton+Pie+Cedeno+Hill+Pawelek... you want both of them? Throw in Pinto+Guzman+Harvey+Dopirak+Sing. They aren't going to take anyone that ADDS to the payroll and they aren't going to take anything that gives us room to make more trades.
  17. IT. WAS. NOT. LEN. Here is the post that you got it from: From: lenkaspercubtv Nov-10 4:22 pm To: lenkaspercubtv (2 of 4) 192672.2 in reply to 192672.1 im me at Lenkaspercubstv! Len ---------------------------------------- It was in a thread that he created and bumped himself 4 times asking for people to IM him. Lucky for him the excited young kids of the board fell for it. Notice the missing "s" in his name? The fake Len made several threads all of which he kept bumping asking people to ask him questions. Most people were smart enough. The real Len then posted this: From: lenkaspercubstv Nov-18 8:03 pm To: ALL (1 of 11) 193714.1 Hi Everyone, seems like we've gone over this a few times, but again, the ONLY username I have is this one, not ANYTHING else. So, the recent poster lenkaspercubtv or whatever is an imposter. Thanks and I hope everyone is enjoying the fall/winter. Regards, Len Kasper -------------------------------------------------------------- OK??? Len's verified on air and in his blog that he posts as "lenkaspercubstv." Len verified that he is NOT lenkaspercubtv.
  18. I do think it's realistic to think if the Cubs are going to pull off a deal for Abreu they will have to give up one or more of either Cedeno,Murton or Pie. Williams,Hill & Aardsma won't be close to getting it done. Now that Philly has traded Thome, isn't it more likely they will hold on to B.Abreu? Firstly, quoted the wrong person. Secondly, why would they want Cedeno or Murton? They'd want Pie but too bad. They want starting pitching and young relievers. That's what Williams+Hill+Aardsma are. If Bedard alone would get it done then a package as such would be more than "not close." And if they were to want a more proven starter then we use the pieces to trade for one in a three-way. No, the Phils are still trading Abreu with Thome gone.
  19. I'd go out and make the Pierre deal happen. It seems our only real competition right now would be the Rangers unless the Yanks will give up Cano? Then offer up everything but Pie, Murton and Cedeno and find a way to trade for Abreu. Williams+Hill+Aardsma? Trade prospects for a proven starter that we swing to Philly? Barrett-Lee-Walker-Aramis-Cedeno-Murton-Pierre-Abreu. That will make things OK.
  20. AND the whole italic part? As I understand it, Eyre and Howry are not on the roster either. If they are, Moore is definitely not and someone else must be removed. If they are not, it supports the presumption that Moore is on the roster and Eyre/Howry are not on it yet officially. In any event, multiple moves have to be made this week which will change everything...
  21. But I think this should be seen as replacing Macias. And in that, I like it just fine. Mabry can play 1B/3B/OF and is at least more of a threat than Macias. I think this will be followed by the Cubs non-tendering Macias then a 2-for-1 trade that allows them to officially add Eyre to the 40-man roster.
  22. I like Quentin a lot too and he's a good RF but Arizona is going to keep him. Tracy they may trade, Glaus they'd trade, Shawn Green or Gonzo they could trade - but they're keeping Quentin. I'd take Tracy too.
  23. How much can we trust this source? I mean, is this speculation or are you confident it's fact? What is the time period they have before they have to add Eyre?
  24. Jeff - I know all players must be activated from the DL at least before the Rule 5 draft ruling out the Dec.20th suggestion and meaning Moore isn't keeping a spot warm for Wood's return after the Rule 5. I'm pretty confident the date is the same as the 40-man roster deadline on November 19th... it seems unless there was a mistake in the reportedly updated roster, Moore will not be on the 40-man for the Rule 5 draft. Please let us know if you hear back.
