  1. I think he might try and stretch him one more inning. Baker will see O'Malley has thrown 87 pitches and see if he can get one more inning putting him at around 100 pitches. Just a hunch. Nobody warming up.
  2. The more I see him, the more I don't like him.
  3. There was actually an article in Baseball Prospectus today that questioned the Astros plate discipline. It's really weird to see the Cubs leading in that department, even for one game. The Astros have looked eerily like the Cubs in that department. Murton had by far the best plate appearances last night. No surprise there.
  4. After 3, O'Malley has 39 pitches, 20 for strikes.
  5. Nice of the Astros to help the kid out by swinging at the first pitch, just like they did with Z the other night after the eighth-inning walk.
  6. Lineups Cubs Pierre, CF The Riot, 2B Barrett, C Ramirez, 3B Phil Nevin, 1B Pagan, RF Murton, LOF Perez, SS O'Malley, P Astros Taveras, CF Burke, 2B Berkman, 1B Scott, LF Ensberg, 3B Lane, RF Everett, SS Ausmus, C Pettitte, P
  7. No, I haven't heard anything about that.
  8. I'd start Murton every day. Every day. You can spot Pagan in RF against lefties. There also is no reason Murton should be batting anywhere other than 2nd in the lineup. .298 avg/.365 obp...am I missing something here because Dusty certainly is. You're right. That's where I'd bat him, too.

  10. Baker started Theriot Thursday at Milwaukee. The kid went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and sat the next day. Bruce, when the writers pin Baker down on why he makes moves like this, does he have a coherent response? It just seems to me that alot of the moves Baker makes are easily called out in the media, does he just refuse to respond? We ask all the time. We usually get a long response about how this guy hits against a certain type of pitcher and how it was like when Dusty faced Cy Young and thus and such.

  13. I want to second this porton of CubZ99's statement. I was recomending a book to a friend a few weeks ago with about the same recomendation. Thank you for treating us like adults, and smart ones at that. Even if we dont act it here sometimes. I appreciate the sentiments. As I've said before, I've learned as much, if not more, from you guys as you might have learned from me. The only advantage I have is access. No, I've not been called into the office or treated badly by Hendry or Dusty. I like them both as people very much. They're both very good to deal with. We sometimes have to agree to disagree. I've got to pack for Denver. Let's hope the airport lines move quickly tomorrow.
  14. To be fair, that's just Bruce's interpretation of what they'll do. For all we know, they planned from day one to extend Baker and all of this is just trying to pass it off to the public as the right move. Entirely plausible. You'll excuse me if I hope you're just flat out wrong on the probability of all this Bruce....no offense... :P Like I said the other day, there's a 50-50 chance he WON'T be back, if looking at it that way makes you feel better. :D
  15. You've been a great crowd. I'll be here all week. If only I could have gotten the shirt tug, hair tousle and spitting between my teeth to translate, we'd really have something.

  17. I've heard that he (and Dempster) are the light-hearted jokesters of the clubhouse - the best and most notorious for pranks. Either he has gotten more crueler/annoying in his fooling around, or the perception of his antics changes when the team is failing. How's that sound, Bruce? Dempster is a great guy. Ohman blows hot and cold. He's a bit of a cocky guy to begin with, and sometimes he likes to play the tough guy, too. I don't mind if players don't like us. You're going to have that. But when it comes to getting in the way of people doing their jobs, that's when I have a problem. Interestingly, two of the guys who got a bad rap in the past _ Kent Mercker and LaTroy Hawkins, I had no problem with. In fact, Mercker was one of the nicest guys I've ever been around. Other writers, including Hall of Famer Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News, will corroborate that.
  18. Sadly, there is no hope for this team as long as Hendry is in charge with this moronic, head-in-th-sand attitude  I read that as Bruce impersonating Hendry. That's what it was, as I pointed out before I started the "celebrity impersonation."
  19. Late with lineups Cubs Pierre, CF Izturis, SS Barrett, C Ramirez, 3B Jones, RF Nevin, 1B Murton, LF Cedeno, 2B Zambrano, P Brewers Clark, CF Graffanino, 2B Fielder, 1B Gross, LF Hall, SS Jenkins, RF Bell, 3B Miller, C Bush, P
  20. Ditto. OK, it's 50-50 that he's NOT coming back.
  21. October, if not sooner. Oh Bruce, just come out and tell us. Did Dusty already sign his extension? We can handle it, I think. :( No, I don't know that he did. I had it at 20-80 him coming back about a month ago. I've got it at 50-50 and rising every day right now.
