  1. Looking at our depth chart right now http://i.imgur.com/efc9TZZ.png I'm being captain obvious by noticing that there are clearly more pegs than holes here. So some questions. We're sold on Contreras as our future at C over Schwarber. Will Schwarber get enough PA's between Platooning at LF and backing up at catcher? Do we bring back Fowler next year based on how well he gels with this team? Are we hoping Soler builds himself up to be a centerpiece of a future deal? Is Baez going to be a supersub forever in hopes that he becomes the everyday 2B when Zobrist gets to the end of his contract?
  2. http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2016/2/29/11127218/why-kyle-schwarber-should-give-up-catching Interesting article about the longterm benefits of keeping Kyle away from the plate. What do you guys think?
  3. His character aside, getting a strong viable #3 with this short of a commitment is much less risky than throwing 5 years at Shark or someone comparable. With a rotation of Arrieta Lester Lackey Hammel Henderson Our rotation is already one of the better ones in the league. If we can find a #4 via trade, than I think we're a solid defensive CF, we'll be one of, if not the most well rounded teams in the league.
  4. Does anyone feel there may be a benefit to waiting till mid-season to trade one of Baez or Soler in terms of increasing their value/buying low from a team that is out of the race early? Obviously there is a risk that there values will depreciate but it will allow us to give both a much needed half season to really understand further what they are worth/their potential impact to the team. If just one of them breaks out, they could be the centerpiece to getting a TOR instead of having to be packaged together.
  5. Change of subject, but what are you guys thinking as far as trade chips Do we take advantage of some of our ML ready pieces for a contender? Do we overwhelm a rebuilding team with a "variety" pack of young options that are 3.5-4.5 stars? Is there anyone who is untouchable for you? Who would you trade Russell/Schwarber for?
  6. Wanted to get more eyeballs on this, but mods please move if you deem this irrelevant to this subforum. This idea might be frowned upon because it involves shifting focus away from the coming back to the actual NSBB forum for live discussions (game threads), but I think it would be really fun to experiment with a Slack based chatroom for these and maybe other topics. https://slack.com/ The immediate negative would be losing the archival nature of game threads, and also the grand tradition of them, but maybe it could be use as more a supplement and less of a replacement. I also know that Slack has a ton of API integrations that could possibly export the chat archives into readable digests? Would love ya'll's 2 cents.
  7. how many times have infield popups fallen to the ground in between multiple fielders this year already for the cubs.
  8. wow lol forgot what day it was, so weird...
  9. Welcome aboard - Paul DePodesta - Data Science Group I work at the Israeli branch, found it kind of funny , and didn't know where else to post this.
  10. would love to see a cosby/theo Gif.
  11. Isn't the best equation to use here have to do with W's and L's though....and more specfically the WS variable....
  12. the headline alone made me laugh out loud for some reason. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6529161 this has probably been posted somewhere but i couldn't find it. Hmmmm
  13. how's his plate discipline developing? That's what i'm really concerned with. If he can get on base at a clip around .390+ then i won't really care about power deficiency
  14. Honestly, I think that its worth it. and would it be that crazy to think that Pujols might put up .800+ OPS numbers from age 37-40?
  15. Minor detail, but most lineups include a second baseman. Pujols can cover 1st and 2nd. Hes that damn good. im going with this.
  16. just to pile on the fantasizing Castro Soto Pujols Ramirez Soriano Byrd/Jackson Colvin Pitcher Could be fun. Even with aging Ramirez in Soriano, you have to figure that to be a top 5 offense.
  17. point taken with bad examples, but Pujols being the best player of this decade, youd have to think that there should be at least 5 or so teams involved in the bidding when he hits market.
  18. the difference is that we are the clear leaders and can give him more than anyone else. please please please happen. are we really the clear leaders? Where are the mets, sox, angels, etc.. in all of this? I still think he'll resign with STL tho.
  19. holy hell thats a bad contract. Makes it seem like we got off easy with Alfonso. Is this just the trend now, are the inflated contracts ever going to go down or is 10 mil a year your average for a healthy veteran player?
  20. The only way I see it happening that we trade him and not end up paying even over half the remaining money owed is if you package him with another player or two that is valuable enough to deal with all of that money, and get back zilch in return. Unless soriano were to bounce back HUGE this year, All-Star numbers, no injuries etc.. and our team is playing at the level of last years than I dont see Soriano going anywhere unfortunately. I'm not really worried about all this though, our payroll cap should rise soon enough hopefully, and having an albatross contract for the next 4 years shouldn't kill our playoff chances that much if our younger players can continue to develop.
  21. I feel like Rice hasn't explode yet this seasons so you might get people undervalueing him. If you can get 2 solid consistent players for him than go for it though.
  22. So is the Colts' defensive line, though, with Mathis and Freeney. has clady ever given up a sack? He has. Like Once. And Clady and Harris are studs, but besides that the Broncos Line is just ok. And they have battled injury's all year having two stud linemen and the rest just average makes the line very good. I think the entire line has a chance to be one of the best in the league for the forseeable future. Once we get Harris back, we'll probably the best tackle rotation in the league with Clady and Beadles (who played outstanding in the Indy game). Our only weakness is the inexperience of our interior, but I'm confident it'll improve.
  23. throw in E. Manning and I'm in the same boat. Right now I'm thinking Manning. also, Ahmad Bradshaw or Pierre Thomas?
  24. That seems highly unlikely, since Kosuke has 200 fewer plate appearances than Crawford. Kosuke OPS: .844 Crawford OPS: .845 Kosuke wOBA: .367 Crawford wOBA: .374 I think you have to account for Crawford's SB though. I do agree that he is only a marginable upgrade and likely won't be worth the contract he commands.
