  1. Why is everyone annointing Bradley as the Bears' savior? I know he's shown some potential in the past, but his TD last week wasn't anything special. The media keeps commenting on how he's a deep threat (which he is, I guess) but not because of last week's TD. I'm being picky here, but I'm getting sick of reading articles about how Bradley is going to carry us, it sets me up for disappointment.
  2. http://www.licey.com/articulo.asp?did=5304 The team Alfonso would play on is the Estrellas Orientales (EO on the schedule). Cubs' catching prospect Jose Reyes is on the team. Thanks a ton for that. The schedule on there only goes through Dec. 22nd though. I thought I had read somewhere that they play Oct-Jan. I take it the season ends in late December and that playoffs run through January? Any idea where the games are? Are they all at the stadium in Santo Domingo? Thanks. From past experience, I believe they play approximately 50 games and that's what the schedule shows through December, so I guess that the schedule linked is correct and is for the regular season. The playoffs are probably in January and the Caribbean World Series is in February. Estrellas Orientales play in San Pedro de Macorís. The two teams that play in Santo Domingo are the Tigres del Licey (Felix Pie's team) and Leones del Escogido. Thanks, hopefully I'll be able to catch a game sometime between the 26th and New Years. I know there are night games, so that will make it easier.

  4. I'm going to be in the DR from Dec 26th to January 13th...where can I find out where they're playing? That would be awesome to do on one of my free days.
  5. I sure as heck couldn't
  6. I spent a while talking to a very close friend of Colangelo's today and he made it sound like he's going to make a very serious run at this. They're asking a ton and he's not sure what's going to happen, but he is really, really interested. I could see, and would be all for, something going down. Jerry's a great guy.
  7. Shin-Soo Choo? gesundheit
  8. No contest. Dogs. There's only one cat I ever liked, and that's cuz he had some gas problem and he could seriously clear a room several times a day (he wasn't my cat of course...so I thought it was hilarious). http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/3058/hawaii06005if8.jpg (note: I do not advocate dressing pets, I hate it. I simply placed this on his head and the picture turned out awesome)
  9. I agree. That would put him in position where he doesn't HAVE to produce for the team to be successful. I just don't want it to turn out like Brian Anderson on the South Side.
  10. Reasoning? I'd like this line-up: Soriano RF Murton LF Griffey CF Lee 1b Ramirez 3b Barrett C Derosa 2b Izturis SS I wouldn't mind that lineup one bit. If/when Griffey goes down you can call up Pie or let Pagan try to hold down the fort depending on the severity. On the other hand...is Griffey that big of an upgrade over Jones at this point?
  11. thats not the argument. the argument is that the difference between ronny cedeno/cesar izturis and Julio Lugo is greater than the difference between Soriano and Juan Pierre. I was/am all for Lugo. However, you keep mentioning that Lugo will make half as much as Soriano/DeRosa. He also only takes care of one position? Did you want to re-sign Pierre, if that's the case then you can add another $10 mil there (I doubt that you wanted to sign Pierre, but you must take into consideration that you have to add another player otherwise there's no point in saying he'll make half as much as them)
  12. Does brick burn? i'm going to buy a nuke No reason to hurt the rest of us...we didn't do anything wrong.
  13. This team has a lot of money locked up in Lee, Ramirez, and Soriano now and Z pretty soon (hopefully). As long as these contract don't prohibit the Cubs from improving in other areas, then I'm okay with it. Hendry needed to overpay to get someone to come here in this market. I couldn't care less how much money the Cubs spend as long as they put together a winning ballclub. I would rather have gotten Drew and Lugo, but it's better than nothing. I really wouldn't mind seeing the Marshall, Mateo, Guzman, Marmol's of the world dealt. I would hate to see them bring us the same return as Leicester, Welly, etc. which was essentially nothing. I would love to see Eyre dealt as well for some starting pitching help.
  14. I still miss Pat Foley. I think Wiedeman is great on the radio side, but Kelly is pretty mediocre on TV. I feel like I'm watching a video game. All he does is emphasize names. He also gets just as excited when the other team scores which throws me off if I've got it on in the background and I'm doing something else.
  15. I just put on the Wolves for a little while. They run their organization very well. It's pretty sad that they have better announcers than the Hawks too.
  16. What a turnaround. They lucked out last night as they got completely outplayed...but still. I would love to see some of these young guys battle for the last playoff spot. Making the playoffs this year would be a huge step in the right direction for some of these guys.
  17. this is entirely tongue-in-cheek D'oh, shoulda read the part about Taguchi
  18. I think this is quite a reach. Lou and Tony are not the same, nor are DeRosa and Eckstein. And I take it you're comparing Blanco to Molina? Molina's their starter, Blanco's our backup. As for being defensive and a light hitter who hits the HR every once and a while, that goes for almost all catchers. You could make the same argument that the Cubs are following the model of the majority of baseball teams.
  19. This has always been my favorite...he plays baseball in the summer...in the sun...why does he need to fake bake?
  20. Agree. I believe I recall one of my coaches saying if you hit all line drives you'd hit .800, grounders somewhere around .300 and flyballs around .270. The only problem with line drives is that it doesn't take account hard hit balls. A rocket one-hopper is almost as desirable as a line drive, and in some cases more desirable. Just like a hard hit flyball can result in a hr.
  21. All of that fee goes to the Lions-Matsuzaka now has to go negotiate his own contract with the Red Sox in 30 days. That's what I thought, it just doesn't seem right. The total cost of that plus the contract will possibly make him the most expensive (not highest paid) player in baseball.
  22. Sorry for my ignorance, but I know the Lions get most/all/part of the posting money. Of the reported $51 mil, how much goes to the Lions and how much to Matsuzaka?
  23. I don't think anyone here cares about batting average. You might as well cite his shoe size. $20 says Craig Wilson has a better OBP than Derosa next year, smart guy. Don't waste your $20 I'll put in $20 too. Seriously.
