  1. Holy **** the Bears are in the Super Bowl
  2. Good. It'll make it that much sweeter.
  3. Sorry to society? What? Did Tank kill someone or something? How did the charges against him adversely affect society? Tankful of Excuses You saw it coming...what a hypocritical hack. ETA: I thought the judge who let him come here was a Packer fan, not a "judge in Bears clothing." While I agree with you...Johnson did say some pretty stupid things there.
  4. I read a prayer with the words changed into Bear form (I think it was the Our Father or Hail Mary, I don't remember). I don't remember where I read it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
  5. Reminded me of the Karpotzev own goal a few years back.[/b] Reminded me of that one as well. It was pretty bad. IIRC Potsie was trying to fire it around the boards behind the net after the Hawks won a faceoff. I don't think Thibault (I assume it was him) had a chance to react. The worst part about Cully's is that Khabibulin was able to react, just a bit late and it beat him on the glove side, that made it look so much worse. Oh well, when I come back from the Dominican on January 13th I expect the Hawks to be sitting pretty.
  6. That happens a lot at hockey games, and I think it's because so few people really understand the sport, and only a tiny fraction ever played it. I consider myself a pretty knowledgable sports fan, and I follow hockey a lot. But I would never pretend to break down the strategy on the ice. I went to a game in Phoenix last year and the vast majority of the crowd were screaming those two phrases the whole game. You might think that's because of hockey being relatively new to AZ, but you get some of the same stuff at Rangers games in NY. Yeah, I like to call it the "I'm an expert" phenomenon. It's apparent in every sport. I'm not sure it's a matter of people thinking they are experts. They go to hockey games wanting to see two things, goals and big hits. I'm talking about the guys who are screaming for guys to shoot from the corner, behind the net, and other horrible angles on the power play especially. I know they want to see goals, but they think the best way to score is to shoot as many times as you can. They don't realize they have a better chance of scoring by getting someone a lane to the net with traffic in front (like Aucoin's goal last night). Also, on the penalty kill they think the best way to get the puck is to hit the guy. That's not true either.

  8. Just got back from the game. $55 seats for free was a sweet deal. Khabi was awesome. He made some tough saves look real easy because of his positioning. Havlat is amazing. Some of the moves he made tonight were disgusting, and he made a huge play on a backcheck as did Ruutu. The defensemen played a much better game tonight. Cullimore, Kukkonen, and Wiz all blocked a ton of shots. Wisniewski got a ton of ice time, I think Savard really likes him, Arkhipov too. I didn't want to see a trade for a band-aid before, but I think if this team keeps playing like they are and they're able to pick up another top 6 forward they might be able to surprise some people in the playoffs. My only gripe is the stupid fans who sit there and yell "hit him" and "shoot" every 2 seconds. You're going to get those "experts" at any type of sporting event though I guess.
  9. I'm going to the game tomorrow against Colorado. I won tickets on the Hawks website, anyone know if they give away good seats or not usually? I only caught the second half of tonights game, so I missed most of the goals, but it seems like a good rivalry is brewing between the Hawks and Jackets
  10. This Guy Thinks MVP Throw his name among the top rookies, but he's not the ROY in my book and no way is he MVP worthy.
  11. Stupid finals made me miss the game tonight, how'd they look?
  12. I don't see anything wrong with playing Pie up like he's got a chance. Everyone always complains that the Cubs hurt the value of guys. This does nothing but give us bargaining power and potentially increase Pie's trade value. I see nothing wrong with it.
  13. Bondra scores his 499th career goal on a 5 on 3 to tie it at 1 in the 3rd period. Welcome to Chicago Peter. Edit: Vrbata just made it 2-1 a few seconds later
  14. Bondra is apparently going to play tonight according to the Hawks website
  15. As I pointed out on another thread, Giles will not be coming here if the Braves non-tender him. At three years and $13 million, I think the Cubs are pretty well committed to DeRosa. Figures. Are there any potential non-tenders that you think the Cubs might have any interest in?
  16. No way are we going to DFA Mark Prior. I don't understand why Prior either has to be amazing or a bust. Can't he be a good pitcher in the future? Just because he doesn't live up to your original expectations does not make him worthless. Actually he said he understands that he needs to try to pitch out of the pen this year because of his arm problems. Again, just becuase he doesn't live of up to original expectations does not make him worthless. I'd rather have Wood be a solid BP arm than nothing. Again, if they're healthy but not great, they can still be very good. I'd rather have someone who could be great but is just very good than someone who we know is going to be marginal.
  17. Our bullpen is fine, if anything we have too many pieces. Who would you like to see the Cubs overpay for exactly?
  18. Calder's had an awful year so far. Only 3 goals and a +- of -17. That's abysmal. I'd like to keep Vandermeer, but I'd trade Cullimore in a heartbeat for Calder. No one wants Cullimore, especially a team that's trading for the future like Philly. Vandy's under contract I believe, Calder will be a UFA. The most interesting part of the deal is that Vandy was with Philly last (Zhamnov trade I believe), and obviously Calder was here. I don't know if I make that deal, I loved Calder when he was here, but I want a guy who can put the puck in the net. Watching Havlat is making me greedy. I'd like to start dealing off some of these young defensemen. We've got Seabrook, Keith, Kukkonen, Barker, Richmond, Wisniewski, Byfuglien. Unfortunately, the ones who could likely bring us top notch scoring help are the two I don't want to trade (Barker, Seabrook). Kukkonen seems to be a very solid defensemen all around, Keith can fly, Wiz and Byf probably don't have that much value because they haven't had much NHL experience. I know Richmond projects well, but I haven't seen much of him either. The Hawks defensemen remind me of the Cubs pitching. A couple overpaid vets (Cullimore, Aucion) and a good number guys with potential who might not get a shot.
  19. Don't worry, I'm either going to get rich and buy the Hawks or work in their marketing department and find some way to get the games on TV. It is one of my life goals, seriously.
  20. Hawks win 4-1. That's 11 points in 7 games (14 points possible) under Savard. Havlat is such a stud. Hopefully Bondra can help the power play and this team can contend for one of the final playoff spots. Don't look now, but if they win Tuesday night in St. Louis the Hawks will be .500
  21. I LOL'ed at that when I pictured them holding hands and skipping in their superhero capes
  22. I've been reading reports that it's just this year, $500k. That's a great deal, get a guy who might be able to put some pucks in the net without giving up any players.
  23. Don't forget Boucher also coughed up the pass which led to Demitra's goal. I didn't catch the whole game, but they were making it sound like he played well. He let in at least 2 crummy goals in my book (I didn't see the others), but maybe he made some real strong saves. Minnesota also hit at least 4-5 posts/crossbars.
