  1. This team is pretty fun to watch. I read they were likely going to sign Peter Bondra (38 now I think) soon, not sure how that well that would work, maybe we'll see.
  2. Because the Rockies need pitching and they have corner OFs all over the place. Jeff Baker lit the ball up in his short stint. Atkins may have to move to the OF shortly when Stewart comes up. The Rockies want a young CF and pitching to go along with Francis. If they can get that for Hawpe, they will trade him. Then why would they want Jones if they have corner OFs who are ready? And if they need pitching why are they trying to deal Jennings?
  3. Michaels, yes it was a bad year. Most stat sites give you the option of seeing career stats, you should check it out. Wilkerson has had injuries, though I never really wanted him. My question is why would you bring those guys up in a discussion about Church? Look at his stats, Michaels and Wilkerson are not a factor in his stats. I know what career stats are thanks. The reason I brought them up is because they all fit the mold of guys who are entering their prime with decent power and high-OBP who are somewhat under the radar that this board falls in love with. However, both went out and stunk last year. I'm asking what makes Church different from those guys. Also, Michaels never had a full-time role for a whole season (never had 300 ABs even). Same with Church.
  4. I will probably get a little grief for this...but what makes Church different than Jason Michaels and Brad Wilkerson? This board has wanted both in the past and Michaels put up a line of .267/.326/.391 last year while Wilkerson put up .222/.306/.422. Were those just bad seasons or what?
  5. How many games was ol' gimpy able to play last year? Kenny's not a full time player anymore. 129 games. It seems like the only CF options would be Lofton, Lugo or Pie....am I missing someone very very obvious here? Ryan Church or Gabe Gross I would love for the Cubs to get Church, but what happens to Pie, if the Cubs could get Church? Nothing, one of them can shift, become 4th OF, shift Soriano. It would give us options.
  6. Neither do I. I don't want to have those guys turn into Leicester, Welly, Cruz...and get nothing for them. The only problem is dealing Jones creates a hole for us that I'm not sure Lofton fits. In that situation I'd want to see Soriano move to second and DeRosa become a super-utility player and bring in another OF from the left side (darn Drew).
  7. I missed a little bit of the game earlier. But how does completing a pass make up for missing what sounds like a would-be touchdown? He's a quarterback, his job is to throw the ball to people so that they can catch it. He didn't "make up" for anything.
  8. Why does Goose like the Bears so much?
  9. I'm getting excited about Havlat and Bourque coming back. Interesting to see Salmo and Hamilton really flourishing under Savvy.
  10. didn't you see Goose's wind demonstration? I don't get Fox. And if the wind is so bad, dont bother trying, just let the other team down it, especially when its at the Min 42... You do realize we scored our touchdown on a punt return earlier, right?
  11. The guy that it hit wasn't trying to catch it, he was blocking.
  12. I disagree with you completely. While that was a bogus call no way is it the easiest job in teh world.
  13. I guess the reports of Salmo being a hot topic between Tallon and Yawney might have been true. Since Yawney got the boot Salmo's scored his first 2 NHL goals, gotten a lot more ice, and looked like a legit scoring threat out there.
  14. Because Jones is the new Walker. Nobody knows why he must go. But dammit to hell, he's got to GO!! Not quite. People were happy when we got Walker in the first place, not so much with Jones. It's funny how Jones has gone from a "he must go guy" to a "we need him unless we get another big lefty bat." I understand why, it's just funny how things work sometimes.
  15. McBride proving he learned nothing from his DUI is he appears to be playing under the influence tonight with some of these passes he's making.
  16. We look like garbage so far. We don't have anyone who can take control anymore. 13-4 Maryland already.
  17. According to ESPN, the Yankees and mets were both interested. I'm hoping that the Yankee's were unhappy about losing out Matsuzaka and decided they weren't going to be beaten again. That's exactly what I was thinking too.
  18. Some of his signings (Aucoin, Khabibulin, etc) haven't panned out as everyone hoped and thought they would. However, this past offseason he dealt Calder and Bell for Havlat, Handzus and Smolinski. I was skeptical at first, but I think those trades really upgraded the talent on this team. I don't think Tallon has been great by any means, but I don't know if he's been too bad so far. I think getting Havlat and only having to give up Bell was an absolute steal. Bell has 6 points in 21 games this season, while Havlat has 13 points in only 6 games. That was an awesome deal. So was Calder for Handzus; Calder was a hard-worker and scored 25 goals but Handzus filled a big need. I also can't fault him for the Khabibulin and Aucoin signings; Bulin is playing well this year, unfortunately Aucoin hasn't been the #1 defenseman, PP quarterback he was promised to be. Right. I was actually wrong with all four moves so far. I like the signings last offseason, and I was a little wary of those trades simply because Bell and Calder were my favorite Hawks and the only guys we had worth anything last year. Khabibulin has looked better this year and hopefully we can dump Aucoin on someone in need of a defenseman.

  20. Wow...I had a dream last night that the Hawks had a press conference to announce the firing of Yawney...
  21. I'm sure this has been discussed here, but I'm writing a paper on it...so it's fresh on my mind... Should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame?
  22. No need to freak out about Rex, If he throw that ball a foot or two over and Davis comes down with it, everyone praises him and Turner about a great call and great execution. It was there, just didn't hit. Face it, the deep ball is a key part of our offense. It's not going to hit every time, but do we want to go back to the days of Shoop and nothing but screen passes for no gain?
  23. I hate ESPN. Jaws just said "like always, the Patriots managed the ball the right way at the end of the game" no they didn't...they fumbled it away
